When I returned the car, the assistant manager went straight to one tyre and pointed out a couple of dents in the tyre wall that he claims I must have caused as the tyres were in perfect condition before the rental. When I told him that the pre-rental check of the car only included the bodywork and that the guy mentioned that damage to the wheels was normal and didn't count, he said he'd check with the guy that I picked the car up from. The guy was in the back office and didn't come out but the assistant manager assured me that I was invited to inspect the tyres beforehand. The was simply not true. I was charged £300 to replace the tyre. Outrageous.10.0 Wonderful

Cons:
The car hire and Collision Damage Waver insurance were sold as a package and yet it was clear that Enterprise were very uncomfortable with this. They made me sign a complex disclaimer before I could take the car. Additionally, the telephone number on the certificate of insurance was in the USA and I felt that it would be difficult to organise a claim if it were needed.Budget

Cons:
I felt pressured to upgrade to a car model that I did not need for my trip. When I arrived I was told that the car I had reserved many weeks in advance would not be ready for quite some time, but I could upgrade for minimal cost. In the end the minimal cost turned out to be much more.10.0 Wonderful

The check in was easy, no waiting. Was able to upgrade with GPS, which was the best decision.Cons:
Signs to get to the check in and check out were not posted well. We spent too much time trying to find the correct place. The car had too electronics that took control of the car at times, causing unnecessary stress.10.0 Wonderful

The offering of insurance prior to getting the vehicle should have been better , since the insurance at the counter was outrageous. Also the drop off should have been described, since in that airport it is rather convoluted.3.6 Poor

The car was great. Excellent gas mileage, handled well, and was absolutely impeccable when we picked it up. Service was kind and friendly.Cons:
The return process has been a little frustrating. First, I was not told that I would need to keep the copy of the paperwork stating our agreement to give to the Avis rep on Orkney. Had I known that, I would have put it with the other confirmations and information that I was toting around instead of panicking. Second, I found the paperwork, gave the keys to the Avis rep, he said he would get it South from there, and I had nothing further to do. Unfortunately, I got an email from Avis telling me I was in breach of contract because the car hadn't been returned. This issue has not been resolved and is currently my only frustration with the rental.Alamo

I had difficulty finding both the pickup location in St. Pancras, London and the dropoff location in Edinburgh. I had to walk around and ask in several buildings before I found the St. Pancras office. Then, when I used Bing to find the address of the Sixt office in Edinburgh, the first address than came up was incorrect. It was many miles from the correct location. The folks at another car rental office were good enough to direct me to the correct address.2.0 Poor

Returning the vehicle was quick and simple.Cons:
Given different size vehicle than was shown. Being charged more than double the original amount to get correct size vehicle and zero customer service from both Kayak and Sixt. Vehicle was received filthy with wrappers, chewed fingernail clippings, and dirt everywhere making it impossible to verify any current damage prior to assuming responsibility for vehicle. Disgusting experience that I don't intend to repeat with either company.Europcar

Cons:
We made a same-day reservation and when we showed up, the agent wouldn't honor the reservation. He said they had no cars, third-party broker reservations take at least 24 hours to come through, and dismissed my 'but I have a reservation' with, "but you haven't paid anything for it yet, have you?" He was completely unapologetic and uncaring. We paid for a taxi from the train station to the airport for this reservation and ended up having to pay several times more to get one of the few available cars at a competitor at the airport. Complete failure and I'm astonished Kayak and Dollar associates with this franchise.6.0 Okay

Cons:
Company called partway through my rental to tell me to return the car because it had been sold! They offered an exchange but no compensation for the hassle of returning the car. Also tried to claim damage with small scratches on one tire rim - I was able to prove that they were there when I rented the car. You need to run your finger around the rim when picking up the car to check for tiny scratches.DRIVALIA
