Instead of taking an authorization of 500GBP, like every other rental place in the world, they took a deposit. When I called the call centre, even they were surprised. They took the money at 1.78CDN, and when returned, it came back at 1.66CDN. FOR A LOSS!!! BE AWARE OF THIS SCAM!! I won't be renting from Enterprise ever again after this.Reviewed 5 Apr. 2024

Feel completely ripped offPros:Car was very good, clean and comfortable. No issue with the car.Cons:When I returned the car, the assistant manager went straight to one tyre and pointed out a couple of dents in the tyre wall that he claims I must have caused as the tyres were in perfect condition before the rental. When I told him that the pre-rental check of the car only included the bodywork and that the guy mentioned that damage to the wheels was normal and didn't count, he said he'd check with the guy that I picked the car up from. The guy was in the back office and didn't come out but the assistant manager assured me that I was invited to inspect the tyres beforehand. The was simply not true. I was charged £300 to replace the tyre. Outrageous.Reviewed 2 Jan. 2019

Collision damage waver insuranceCons:The car hire and Collision Damage Waver insurance were sold as a package and yet it was clear that Enterprise were very uncomfortable with this. They made me sign a complex disclaimer before I could take the car. Additionally, the telephone number on the certificate of insurance was in the USA and I felt that it would be difficult to organise a claim if it were needed.Reviewed 7 May 2018

People were nice, not pushyPros:All the enterprise employees I dealt with were very helpful and nice. They of course want to sell you extras but they backed right off when you declined. They must be quite well trained. Helpfulness and patience is what I experienced. Thank you.Reviewed 3 Jun. 2017

Top tips for renting a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Edinburgh

  • There are roughly three Enterprise branches in Edinburgh. One of the more convenient branches to get your vehicle from, especially if you’re arriving by plane, is Edinburgh Airport (EDI). Whilst Edinburgh offers a good transport network, getting a hire car from this Enterprise branch means you’ll enjoy more flexibility for your trip because you won’t have to adhere to public transport timetables. The airport branch also provides you with a wide selection of vehicles to pick from, as well as positive reviews regarding car cleanliness and customer service.
  • When you’re in Edinburgh, there are lots of places to park your Enterprise hire car. There are lots of on-street parking bays, the cost of which varies depending on the zone you are in. For instance, on Queen Street Gardens East, you can park in the blue zone for about £ 4 (A$ 7) per hour. You can pay with a card using the ticket machines available, or alternatively, you can pay online. For a more secure parking experience, you can park in the centre at NCP Edinburgh Castle Terrace, which is open 24 hours per day. The cost of this is about £ 5 (A$ 9) per hour or £ 36 (A$ 64) for the whole day.
  • You must follow the road laws when driving your Enterprise hire car in Edinburgh. For instance, all passengers must wear a seat belt. Children smaller than 135 cm or younger than 12 years old must also be in a suitable child restraint. You are permitted to use mobile phones, but only with a hands-free setting. It’s illegal to drink and drive, so avoid consuming alcohol well in advance of driving. If you are found to be above the legal limit, you will be prosecuted accordingly. Whenever an emergency vehicle turns its lights or sirens on, you must give way immediately.
  • It’s possible to return your Enterprise hire car to a different branch in Edinburgh, such as the airport or city centre. You are also able to return it to a different city, like Glasgow. There is an additional cost for one-way hires, which is calculated based on the length you’re hiring the car for, the location you’re returning it to and the type of car you hired.
