Pedro's House - Hostel - Gwangju - Bedroom
1
9.2 Excellent (113 reviews)
C$ 77+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Pedro's House - Hostel in Gwangju, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of 5-18 Memorial Park and Guus Hiddink Stadium. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pedro’s an amazing guy who managed to create a cozy and wonderful place for the people visiting Gwangju. I can’t recommend this place enough.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Super clean. Pedro speaks great English. There's a good information file available. I stayed in a double (got upgraded) then an extra night booked in the dorm. Double was great. Dorm was nice, but in a separate block 3 minutes away. The set up was nice and if you had more time it would be a nice place to relax for a few days in the bar eating area.
Cons: Nothing really, except that it gave the impression you could leave your laundry with reception and collect it later, but you couldn't. You needed to do it yourself and wait, which is ok, but this wasn't clear enough on the information, so I ended up hanging about for an hour unexpectedly, which then took time out my day.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pedro's guesthouse is situated in the homiest neighbourhood you could imagine (and still well connected). Especially part 2 of the guesthouse, that is in an actual house, felt real cozy. Also a good kitchen with enough stuff available to make your own food. And don't get me started about the ever changing breakfast WITH good coffee... oh and multiple roof terrace!
Cons: The bathroom ceiling was low, very low. During showering I could not stand up straight (I'm 187cm though so if you're not as tall as me it won't bother you ). The bedding lies loose on the matras so if you move during your sleep you'll be lying on the matras itself. Unhygienic for me but also the people after me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable accommodation with a great location. Pedro and Jay are absolutely wonderful, so kind and helpful with your travel plans and arrangements. They have both traveled extensively and are super fascinating to talk to. The complementary breakfast was delicious! I definitely plan on staying here again in the future! Highly recommend
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, lovely staff. My room was clean and comfortable with a private bathroom, and VERY good value for money. For the price, Oxbloodk is fantastic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best thing about breakfast is that you can have it any time. There are also instant ramen and rice, so it's great. There is toast, eggs, cheese, jam, cereals milk and juice. Location was ok, 15 minutes from bus station and bus stop 1 minute away. The rooms are really big and have everything you need. I even got small toileteres. You can also do your laundry for free and borrow a hanger to dry you clothes. Oh and there is also a rooftop access.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Manager was really nice, kind and helpful. Kitchen was well equipped, room was clean and cosy. Accommodation was also close to subway and walking distance of U-Square.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager was very nice and helpful. The kitchen was nice to have. However, breakfast was very basic and we preferred to eat breakfast elsewhere every day. Location was close to subway station (make sure to check out the time table, the trains don't arrive as often as other subways) Value for money very good!!!
Cons: We were given a 10 minute time slot to check in. This is unacceptable when providing service to backpackers who are arriving from out of town. It was a big hassle for us to make sure we are not late and also not too early. The building (outside the rooms) is not clean and not maintained properly. The room itself was kind of clean but not enough. The room wasn't practical at all. The bathroom window was visible to the next building, we had to tape paper to the window so people won't see us in the bathroom (We tested it before, it really was see-through). The TV set was placed in an awkward position facing a wall, there was no way to turn it to face the bed so we didn't use it. We knew about the checkout time at 0830 before booking, so can't really complain about it, but I definitely didn't like it.
5.0 Okay
Cons: after 22:00 turn off light on stairs and Lobby( very dark ), very inconvenient and danger. 5F, kitchen provide fan better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic little place to stay was made that much better by a few unexpected perks: free food available at any time of day (including rice, kimchi, seasonings, seaweed, bread, jam, butter, eggs, instant noodles, and drinks), free laundry, and a very kind, attentive manager. We loved the location, the internet speed was fantastic, and the bed was very comfortable. A tiny but excellent gem!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is a nice size, it consisted of a small hall, the bedroom and a bathroom. The bathroom itself was very nice, definitely exceeded expectations for the price-range. Shampoo is provided. Towels, amenities and a small bag of lotions and supplies is also provided which was a pleasant surprise. The bedroom itself was well doable for the price. An air conditioner AND a separate fan were present. A size-able clothes rack, a nice TV with more than enough TV channels, a mini-fridge and a safe were also there. The bed was okay, simple bed linen and a heating pad for in the winter. The room was clean. On the top floor there is also a general living room and shared kitchen with free food available. The owner was very nice and friendly, everything was well explained and he always made sure you had everything you needed or did his best to answer whatever question. He made it a very pleasant experience overall, I even got a nice pen at the end! The location of the guesthouse is also great! A walking distance from the subway and the express bus terminal, made it very easy to get to in the scorching summer heat, and easy to go wherever you want. The area surrounding the guesthouse is nice too, quite a few restaurants to pick from, and a convenience store just 20 meters outside the entrance.
Cons: You can tell the bulding has seen many guests/years. Especially the stairs could do with some refurbishing/updating. Even though the room itself was well clean, there are some spots and blotches in the corners mainly, but nothing too bad. The bed's pillow was quite uncomfortable, it seemed to be some sort of faux leather couch cushion with a pillow cover over it. You have to notify the hostel of your exact arrival time, as the front door is locked, which means you can't get in unless opened from the inside. If the owner is not there you won't get inside and you'll have to wait. After I sent a message I arrived, he opened the door. Those without wifi/data might be out-of-luck here. But it was just a minor inconvenience.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was extremely friendly & went out of his way to make us feel at home.
7.5 Good
Pros: The service...
Cons: The stairs...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A great location, subway is very close and the bus terminal is an 8 minute walk. The manager is also very kind and helpful. :)

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Facilities within. Hotel
Cons: Location is out of town
5.5 Okay
Pros: Things that you can get in less than half price hotels down the road.
Cons: They did nothing for our wedding despite prior notice. Staff didn't seem to care. We are very disappointed.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Modern, spotless, clean, airy, spacious.
Cons: Staff a little officious and inflexible at front desk and restaurant
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was very spacious and the mini bar had a pretty good selection. Breakfast buffet was large and extremely good! Definitely worth the extra investment. Staff very friendly. It also might be the most elegant hotel in Gwangju.
Cons: It felt a little cold in the room and there seemed to be no way to control heating (didn't ask at the reception because I was only staying for a night). The location is certainly good for business travelers (next to Convention Center and near Airport and Train Station), but for regular tourists ... not so much. Bad view, no convenience store in the building (unusual for a good hotel in Korea). I also found it a little overpriced.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice room, friendly staff, well maintained, English good
Cons: So expensive (World Swimming Championship at same time) as fully booked.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: I don't understand why they didn't tell me check-in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Grant, the head concierge, was so helpful - it made our trip.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent stay and the breakfast was out of this world!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great! Walking distance to 518 park and close enough to many other interest points.

Pros: Clean hotel. Great for a one night stay. Good price.
Cons: Air conditioner did not work and no view.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast simple but good. Staff friendly and we were allowed to check-in one hour earlier than usual.
Cons: A distant walk to subway.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I loved the rooms. They were big and comfortable. I also liked that our room had a bath and the beds were comfortable.
Cons: n/a
4.3 Okay
Pros: Mattress was fine.
Cons: Would have been nice to have two pillows per person on bed. Could not regulate heat in the room. This was annoying and uncomfortable. Had no toilet paper for 2 days. Had to ask for water bottles at front desk. Light switches confusing, the bathroom light kept shutting off. Did not have enough large towels. The shower was unacceptable, water leaked onto floor which made it dangerous. This Hotel needs serious upgrading.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good korean breakfast! The ladies were very nice to us, giving us yogurt and drink when cleaning the breakfast area. Also, the front desk helped us by calling a taxi, very helpful!
Cons: nothing in particular
6.8 Good
Pros: It is near to MTR station and LOTTE Department Store. It is also nearby many eateries.
Cons: The bed could have been more comfortable and more variety for breakfast. Would appreciate if they could provide additional room card as well.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The bed was really comfortable and the room was spacious. Air conditioner worked great and I appreciated the chargers on the bedside table.
Cons: Bathroom was a little dark.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good place, very helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: Bathroom is a little bit dirty and heater is quite hot for us.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great room and service
Cons: There was food in the fridge and a used razor in the shower when we got there. I think the maid forgot to look. :/
8.0 Excellent
Pros: very helpfull people
Cons: breakfeast not good, no service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was working on a project in the room. There was no way to reduce the room heating, it was quiet hot. The reception staff said they would reduce the temperature, but forgot. So it was a very hot and sweaty time.
Cons: Very good location, lovely helpful staff ~ it's the management's fault for not investing in self adjusting floor temperature, not the staff.

7.0 Good
Pros: Clean and neat. Decent breakfast.
Cons: A bit far from metro in gwangji, 20 mins of walk needed
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A small hotel with a nice location in an area of town with several bars and restaurants. The standard was ok and it is seeming to be a fair value for money. The breakfast was basic but far better than many Korean hotels or motels I have tried over the past years. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again if I return to Gwangju.
Cons: On the negative side, we had only one big towel in the room. Nothing serious and I assume if I had asked for an extra they would have given me one…
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean room with big bathroom and big beautiful bathtub. Sofa and am chair in room. Closet memorial park. 10-12 min on walk from metro. Fresh bottles water free in the room and in the reception. Beautiful space for breakfast. Quiet room. Check - out up to 3 pm. Good rechargeable system for smartphones and tablet.
Cons: Only a very small window closet to a wall. Not light for reading. Air conditioning too closet beds. only 1 big towler for 3. The street is very crowded in the night (full of night club and places for drinking).
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfortable, room was spacious.
Cons: Breakfast can be hotter. There was no ventilation. English Instructions on how to use aircon and heater would be helpful. Would be child if there is a closet to put our coats
5.8 Okay
Pros: For one night stay it was okay. The free parking was a plus. If you don't have high expectations, it is okay. Location was okay too, big supermarket, restaurants and a night bar is close by. However, we were using a car when we stayed there so in terms of location, I am not the best source of information.
Cons: The room was a bit dark and the lights were unpleasant. The bathroom was large but not quite practical. I have also seen cleaner bathrooms in cheaper business hotels. The walls and the furniture were worn out. And a wall was facing the window, not a nice view at all. There was a strange smell when we entered the coridor and our room. Their restaurant was closed so we didnt have any breakfast option.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great little hotel with a lot of charm...very helpful staff....they made every effort to provide free amenities even bottled water in your room and at the desk as leaving...and every day they cleaned unlike other booking.com hotels I've used in Korea. The breakfast was a good Korean breakfast with Western style salad, toast and jam with coffee as well. The other hotels in this area look like sketchy "love motels" but this is a cute business/boutique hotel with a free to use business center with fax and printers with several internet connected computers. A large Emart is close as well as a Twosome Place, Hollys and Starbucks...a Vips buffet and CGV are around the corner. The bus terminal is about 5,000₩ taxi ride away. So easy location, comfortable room and nice staff.
Cons: The bed was too hard and loud for my preference...but it was clean and had nice linens.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: There are a lot of restaurants around the hotel, which is very convenient.
Cons: It would be great if the staff could speak better English.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: better breakfast only fried eggs no bacon or sausage
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location, room was very clean and all facilities provided, staff helpful.
Cons: Window looking onto a wall, room was a little too hot
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Hotel was in a perfect location. Rooms were nice and staffs were very friendly and helpful. Also restaurant located in 17th floor had beautiful foods but better to make reservation!
