Overview Reviews
With a stay at Shantaa Resort in Ko Kood, you'll be near the beach, within a 10-minute drive of Klong Chao Beach and Ao Tapao Beach. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Limited parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best place to relax
Cons: There is not much to do around however that is not why we went to this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely helpful staff. Fantastic restaurant with a wide variety of amazing food at reasonable prices. The cabins are amazing and clean, only a very short walk to a pristine beach. They have a private pick up service from the ferry so you don't have to share with all the other tourists arriving on the ferry. We had issues with out flight home and the staff called up the airline for us and explained our situation in Thai language. She was so helpful!
Cons: This is in no way the hotels fault however in the low season you cannot fly from Bangkok to meet the ferry as there isn't enough time for the connection. Instead we caught the bus from Bangkok to the ferry pier, however we already booked flights.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: - Food at the restaurant was very delicious and has been made with good ingredients. The breakfast was also great. - very attentive staff. - nicely decorated bungalow, the bathroom was really nice.
Cons: :D
10.0 Excellent
Pros: lots of breakfast choices. Friendly staffs. Quiet beach area. Clean and private room on top of the hills. Lots of activities to do if the weather is good enough. I'd definitely go back!
Cons: Although it took us many hours to get there (by plane, airport shuttle, ferry and another shuttle bus) but the hotel helped us organize transportation end-to-end, which was perfect! Lots of mosquitoes at night, so we have to be careful with it since the bathroom is outdoor. Don't forget to bring lots of mosquito repellent spray.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful, quiet resort with beautiful bungalows that include a delightful private outdoor garden with shower or soaking tub, excellent service and delicious food, acres of beautiful walks and gardens, a small private beach with appealing snorkeling, and a large, wide, sandy beach just south of the property. While I did explore the island a bit, as I would usually do, I would have been equally satisfied to stay at the resort the whole time and still not felt I had missed the culture. It requires a bit of off-the-beaten-path travel to get here, so there were no tour groups around. Other guests were primarily European, many of them in their 30s, some with baby or toddler in tow. But there was plenty of space for all to enjoy, with dozens of quiet platforms, day beds, swings and hammocks at various lookouts along the property, and a private beach bar. While there was no pool, I didn't miss it for a moment. Many gather at night along the property edge to watch the spectacular sunsets. I plan to make this a yearly trip.
Cons: From, say, Bangkok, travel requires a flight to the tiny (but lovely) Trat airport, a long taxi ride to a ferry, and another longish ferry ride to Koh Kut (it is apparently also possible to hire a van from Bangkok to the ferry dock), with possibly a final taxi to the resort (though my small book simply docked at the resort). I'm not sure any of this is a negative, really--those who make this effort will be fully rewarded!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice Resort with lovely Bungalows, bathrooms are extra-ordinary, we liked it a lot, Restaurant also very good. The breakfast was fantastic
Cons: Location is Next to the not so nice looking Pier, but this is not a major issue. A Pool would be nice for this Resort
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Private, very good service, delicious food, warm welcome
Cons: No more beach but not much important
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This resort was just perfect. We arrived by speedboat and forgot to check were our boat would drop us. But hey, when you book shantaa you book for a real Holiday experience. The staff were right there to pick us up and bring us to the resort! Koh Kood is a great island to explore, we rented a scooter from the hotel to do so. Easy! Breakfast was good, super friendly but a little quit employees. Diner was great! Room was the best we had so far. Perfect view, good a.c., nice bathroom. 5 stars!!
Cons: This was the best hotel we visited so far on our trip through Thailand.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The attention to detail at this resort is breathtaking as is their care towards guests. It felt very personal and thoughtful- our needs were anticipated before we even thought of them ourselves! It had a very relaxed feeling and the staff were very calm. They checked in with us to make sure we had travel arrangements and that we were having a nice time on the island. The food was excellent and the cocktails great too! 10/10 would recommend; would love to return!
Cons: The only possible thing that could’ve made it any better was a bath!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved this hotel!! The best and most personalised service of any hotel that I have stayed in (and that's a lot of hotels!!) We were doing a trail run during the stay and the staff went to get our race packs for us and organised transport to the race early in the morning too. The staff are incredible, the food is all amazing, the cocktails list is outstanding plus the gardens are beautiful! I have not stopped recommending this hotel to friends since I returned. The bungalows are well spaced and so it feels very private and more luxurious. The indoor/outdoor bathrooms are a great touch. There's loads of seating all over the site as well as at the beach so you can find a quiet space at all times. I would love to return!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: After arriving from Koh Mak I just loved Shantaa in Koh Kood: no sandflies, a lovely breeze especially in the evening and a restaurant with a GREAT breakfast and overall amazing quality - really, if you stay at Shantaa, dine at the restaurant at least a few times; it’s worth it! Especially a whole fried sweet/spicy fish was delicious. The menu felt even a bit too long(!), but I understand that there needs to be variety for guests dining in for up to 2-3 weeks. We stayed in a basic villa, which was comfortable and clean, with beautiful views, just like every unit seemed to have. Outdoor bathroom felt a bit funky in the beginning, but actually worked just fine and gave a nice touch to the place. There were lots of areas for relaxation at Shantaa, and during our stay in April it was very peaceful and quiet there. The beach was nice for sunbathing and snorkelling, lots of fish to see and easily accessible even for an inexperienced snorkeller :) The staff was very helpful and attentive. I recommend renting a scooter which makes it easy to get around the island, and ask the staff for any recommendation / advice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was amazing, everything perfect staff, location closed to the beach, comfortable bed, we have enjoyed so much
Cons: The resort quite far from the pier so that some one would be carsick!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: -Staff is very humble, service minded, helpful. -The location is private, quiet, and very tranquil beach. - The resort is super clean.
Cons: Nothing. Evrrything is exceptional!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Calm, silent yet also lively. I like that the lobby, restaurant and rooms are not too far apart. The beach here is the best in the island (so far :D)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place is definitely paradise tucked away from the island main centre. Beautiful gardens and beachfront restaurant and an awesome private pier for romantic sunrise or sunset viewing. Food is delicious and great portions (you get what you pay for!) We had squid salad and it was a whole squid! Great breakfast buffet selection, does run out of food however staff tops it up We stayed here in May which is low season and practically had the resort to ourselves! Travelled with 4 month old baby and staff were kind enough to place us close to the amenities which we are thankful for! Even had the portacot set up in our room. This place is definitely peaceful and relaxing and a great place to get away and unwind. Staff are very friendly and welcoming
Cons: We had a rocky start at the beginning before arriving here as we tried contacting resort via their various numbers listed on their website which no one answered. Their communication via booking.com had been ok This resort does not have a swimming pool but there is the beach. The ride from the pier to the resort is in an open air taxi (they drive very fast) Recommended if travelling with babies/kids to order private taxi and also travel light if you can as there is abit of a walk from the pier to the road. From the pier to the resort it is about 10-15mins car ride
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything especially the staff!
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, very beautiful quiet bay with nice, clean beach. Some good places for snorkeling. Very nice staff. Breakfast and other meals very good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 3 words: Stunning, welcoming, relaxing. Possibly one of my favorite stays. We stayed in a beach side villa - the views were breathtaking. The room was beautifully and exceptionally decorated. We utilized the private beach, massages, and the kayaks that were available. The only thing better than the view was how helpful the staff were - my husband has a fairly severe gluten allergy, and everyone was mindful and accommodating to make sure he didn't get sick. Also helped us book activities on the island.
Cons: It was perfect! Wouldn't change a thing.
6.5 Good
Pros: The room was only big enough for a Husban and wife really my daughter is 16 and had to stay in s put me up bed that’s not great, I asked for another room and they came back with a bigger room with a single and a double then wanted 11000 batt!! The room stayed empty for the 3 nights I offered 5000 and they said no that’s a joke when it’s out of season and not many people there
Cons: The hotel service was very good, food was nice
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beach side location
9.7 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful place!
5.5 Okay
Pros: The location is wonderful. Just right next to the beach, there is a staff who speaks perfect English is very helpful and welcomig.
Cons: Hotel check-in is a bit time consuming. The hotel has the weirdest extra-bed policy, they actually charge by per kid, but not per extra bed, they even charged the one that share the king-size bed with their parents, They did not explain clearly at the beginning but finally she told that the charge is combine with breakfast, The reception lady is very welcoming when we arrive, but after I question their very “unique” policy. She became impatient, smiling but is all professional fake smile. Since we have three people in the room, so I asked for extra quilt at 8p.m, her first reaction was “No, the housekeeper were already off, no possible to offer after 6p.m” , I insisted a little bit, and finally she made the call and offered me one, we consumed something at the mini bar, and we paid when we checked out after reception’s calculation, but while we were leaving for ferry, the female staff turned to my brother and said rudely“you have to pay for another broken glass”, and she just turned away, I accept to pay everything that we broke and consumed, but I don’t accept their attitude that is due to their unprofessional. We ordered the island taxi for dinner outside and was told 1200 baht per car but they charged me 2000 baht when I paid, I argued with the male reception and he was very insisted and even gave me an “angry face”, luckily I found the one who booked the taxi for me and clarify that it’s 1200 baht but not 2000. Last but not the least, I was extremely uncomfortable with the fake smile, it’s not pleasant at all.

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast is great
Cons: Short of staff during holiday. Run out of ice Waiting for food more than 40 mins (reservation made in advance)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location, beach, cleaniness, staff, room facilities,
Cons: There was no privacy in the villas, the staff doesnt speak at all english so there were many misunderstandings
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms are superb, the cleaning staff does a amazing job. The location of the hotel is on a beautiful beach. The pickup from the ferry was 5 star. Checkin-checkout was a breeze. The hotel got us scooters. Really loved the hotel.
Cons: Beach staff is beyond terrible, not enough long chairs on beach at all! And food is really bad...sorry. (Salads had no taste). But beach staff gets the crown. 1st there is hardly any staff on beach or pool. 2nd they are slow if you by miracle get service.... but i tried to forget since the beach is so amazing. But the worst thing during our stay was the NEW YEARS 2019 dinner. It was the worst dinner ive been to. FOOD was cold and tasteless. Drinks not counted in menu (seriously?). ENTERTAINMENT from 1-10 you get a ZERO. Kids playing musical chairs? Really? Was a complete joke... all for $250 USD/PERSON for what??? The hotel should be ashamed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We moved here from a resort that was not as advertised and disappointing. High season picked us up and gave us the most spectacular greeting! It was such a relief. When you enter the resort, it exceeds your expectations from the street side view. Stunning inside; absolutely immaculate; fabulous facilities; best hotel breakfast; incredible rooms with private pools and beautiful bathroom. Everything smelt like lemongrass. We didn’t want to leave!! We felt like total princesses!
Cons: A la carte menu was a little disappointing: the food was a bit rich and maybe tried a bit too hard to satisfy the international palette and lost some of the beautiful freshness of Thai cuisine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love everything, its really clean the staff is really nice and helpful. The service is really good at the restaurant.
Cons: Everything was nice but the only thing that bothered me was that the private pools isnt actually private like people walking can see us swim. I just wished there was a little cover up for the pool.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had amazing time in Villas Our Villa was Big, clean, comfortable although some muld smell Unlimited filterred water to drink Yoga in the morning but i wish was Every day A lot of free sunbeds around the pool and beach Good choice for breakfast Beautiful empty beach Hotel transportation and help with the ferry.. use the ferry the recommend, not speedboat which is horrible. Friendly staff Massage
Cons: This hotel is not 5*, doesn’t look and service is not 5* There is No hotel manager so the staff even trying their Best don’t know What to do - they do many things useless and some things they should - don’t do. Thai Food is really bad - such a shame for Thailand! Smell of humidity in Villas For sure not worth the money. Bad cocktails
9.3 Excellent
Pros: So relaxing to stay there
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best place ever. It's a magic place. Everything is perfect if you want relax. You can also rent a motorbike there to discover the island. The employees are always willing to help. Fantastic. I would come back again. The villa with a private swimming pool is awesome. No words!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property and especially all the staffs are very nice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay at the High Season! The room exceeded our expections and the surrounding beaches were unforgettable with crystal clear water. Their galaxy pool was also a highlight of the stay. The staff were so helpful, polite and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for more!
Cons: We wanted more activities outside the resort on the island.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Koh Kood Beach Resort in Ko Kood, you'll be on the beach, within a 5-minute drive of Klong Chao Beach and Klong Chao Beach.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast: I loved breakfast here. They prepare eggs on demand and I could get an omelette with delicious spicy chilies to go with some bacon. Toast was also great. Coffee was brewed, not just Nescafé. If you’ve spent much time in Thailand, you know why I was impressed with breakfast. Beach: The resort has it's own little beach and you can even see a good bit of fish if you go snorkeling. There is also a pool, so guests are split between the locations, giving some space. The beach has water and looks nice at high and low tides. Bungalow: We were in a Bali bungalow. The bungalow is very spacious and has a nice view of the water, from a distance. You have to go across a large lawn, uphill, to get to the bungalow. I had thought these were closer to the water when we booked. The bathroom is outdoors. You have complete privacy, but you do not have AC. I mention this because we were there during a heat wave and using the toilet in the sun at 40C is not pleasant. Not meant as a negative point, but should be mentioned. After all, it was nice to look at palm trees while showering. Staff: The staff was pretty good. In comparison to other places we have visited in Thailand, you could tell that the staff received some training. They were all very friendly and most of them spoke English quite well. The staff seemed to help customers with anything they needed, like booking a boat off the island or day trips. We didn’t make use of these services, but saw that others did. Location: The resort is situated on a small bay on the west coast, which provides for great sunsets. The neighboring village is very small. We rented a scooter (cheaper externally) and drove to other places.
Cons: Bathroom: Some shade where the toilet is would be nice. I needed extra sunblock just to use the toilet. Bar service: While bar service is available at the pool, one must first walk back to the restaurant to order. This kind of defeats the purpose of having bar service at the pool. Sounds petty, but it was annoying. We would have bought much more if it was more convenient.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, clean accommodation, good beds! Nice outdoor bathroom
Cons: It all seems a bit old.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very well located with a small private beach. The views were great for the subset by the pool.
Cons: Cleaning should be improved and the maintenance of the aircon as well
8.8 Excellent
Pros: There was certainly plenty of room around the resort and the pool was very nice. People were helpful and friendly. The outdoor shower did away with the smelly drain issue you often get in SE Asia.
Cons: Furniture a bit old and tired. Probably not for anyone who wasn’t capable of walking very far. It was a bit of a hike from the restaurant back to the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location. Wonderful staff. Had a Thai massage on the beach and it was the best ever. The food was good in the restaurant, WiFi was great. Highly recommend!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is beautiful. Small but nice beach. Most rooms look out on the sea, nice garden with trees, nice swimming pool. Very kind staff.
Cons: The furniture is a bit old fashioned. Rooms can use an upgrade. Also the shower area in the Bali houses.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice uncrowded resort. Staff great and attentive. Perfect slow season place to chill.
Cons: The bathroom (outside) could use a bit more cover as you get wet using it in the rain. Minor issue though.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was nice and tasty with fresh fruit, baked banana bread and scrambled eggs/omelette made to order.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful place. Plus the Thai food here is really good. Staffs are nice and helpful
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Smiling and helpful, nice staff.

Pros: The staff are amazing. They were very accommodating during our stay. Always very friendly. Breakfast was really nice. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Koh Kood next time.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: the food was very good (especially seafood dip)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The resort was quite small and very calm. The beach was nice and water very warm.
Cons: They offered too less vegetarian food.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I found the staff extremely accommodating making sure we had the room of our choice close to amenities as they saw my wife had a broken foot.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice place, peace and calm for healing the power!
4.3 Okay
Cons: Standard of rooms very poor
6.8 Good
Pros: Pool and rooms were clean and comfortable
Cons: A lot of facilities closed down and equipment put away For example we had to ask for umbrella around the pool. There was building work going on all over the site. If felt as though guests were in the way. Blue sheeting up at the front. Spoilt the view of the beach. No alcohol on sale as bar closed except a beer.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The beach is amazing.
Cons: It was very expensive for what you got. The staff would hang around outside your rooms. The food was only 'OK' and the shop very limited.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Food was limited. Rooms were no up to the level of the cost. Low season so the bar was closed. No safety deposit box. Had to ask for the room to be cleaned.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to Koh Kood ferry. We only stayed 1 night unfortunately as just passing through, but wish we could have spent more. Quiet! No thumping music here :-) Small cafe with fresh food prepared onsite so no need to move. Incredibly helpful family who run it. Kayak available for exploring.
Cons: The rubbish in the sea, but that’s not the property’s fault, seems a general problem in Koh Chang. The lack of paths between cottages and main access and sea access made it a little tricky for our not so adventurous 4 year old to move about without wanting carried all the time.

Pros: Everything!!! The staff from reception, from the bar, from restaurant, house keeping they are all lovely and extremely helpful. Food was delicious especially Pad Thai
Cons: Laundry--it was only one downside of this place hopefully they will make it better and much carefully
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and very helpful. We loved the breakfast and enjoyed the food overall. The location is excellent with a great sunning and swimming beach. We explored many other resorts while we were there and were glad we chose the Medee.
Cons: Pads were thin for the hard lounge chairs.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The stuff is very helpful and friendly. The room is clean with comfortable bed. The location is not so far from the restaurants and Ao Klong Jao where is a beautiful beach.
Cons: The swimming pool is quite small. Food was a bit so so but the barbecue skewers were great!:)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff and location absolutely amazing. Cant beat this place at Koh Kood :-)
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Bed linens had black food on them and ac barely worked and doors were flimsy. Not a safe feeling g at all. No adults were there to help only young adults that barely could communicate. There was no bartender but they had two young guys that had never made a drink taking over. I had to go behind the bar to make my own drink after they attempted one.
Cons: Not much as it was not clean, and musty and the staff lacked any professionalism
4.5 Okay
Pros: Good location
Cons: The service was an absolute disaster: 1. Complete misscommucation after booking. 2. Rude when asking for th Wi-Fi code and made us go from our cottage to the reception to solve issues instead of them coming. Also happened with the iron board and we had to go a second time rmto receive it. 3. No telephones. 4. After checking out we told them the keys where in the room and made us go for them (bear in mind our cottages where in the end of the resort). Overall dissapointed with the professionalism of the service.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The location was very good. There's better beaches in the south but overall very conveniently located.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good bungalow, spacious with a veranda. Bed is comfortable.
Cons: 1. Beach/sand was washed away in front of the resort 2 months away. So you had to jump to the beach with tens of very big bags of sand to protect further erosion. (sad for the resort, nothing they can do), not idlic. 2. Beach beds rockhard, even with a matras of 3 cm.... 3. Cleaning could be better, a used towel which was put on the floor by us was hang back after cleaning the room. Bed was 50% made up, only cover put straight. 4. Breakfast looked poor with instant coffee, we didn't use it. 5. Very long gravelroad from resort to main road (1km) so you need a scooter, resort asks 350tbt per day! (Koh Chang 150). Gravelroad to resort is dangerous (especially in the evening) with 2 people but walking is no option to get somewhere for diner/drinks. 6. Only 2 beds where situated around the pool.
6.3 Good
Pros: The place is beautiful, the island is calm and the sea is incredibly beautiful. The advantage is a canoe free of charge in the price of the stay.
Cons: The staff doesn't speak English, the hotel is overpriced and little to choose from. There is no beach at the hotel, you have to walk a little to the left or right. Ants clouds in the room. Price does not match. The Paradise next door is cheaper and there is better equipment and service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really nice place, the staff is friendly and the location is perfect!

Pros: Outdated. Not much care put into taking care of the place and surroundings. Reception was late responsive when we wrote to ask for advice how to get on the island. Pretty beach and clear waters, good location.

Cons: The ants! I have got so many bites on my body and worse if you leave anything on the floor or left opened bag of snacks on the floor by morning there would be an entire ants armies in your room.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very kind staff
Cons: Is not a hotel on the beach. Too much expensive for the type of room. The swimming pool is too small and not nice. The hotel is not on the beach but you have to get the kayak to go to beach in front of . You cannot sleep too much because every day is a terrible noise of a boat draining the sea water. Also you can ear rat and bad small come in the room from the toilet tube.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, lovely staff, great food, beach and swimming were wonderful and free kayak hire was a nice touch
Cons: Lots of holes in mosquito nets, lots of bites, bed was hard
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good located close to to nice Beach which you Resch by Cayak in 1 Minute
Cons: Bungalows are no more in Good condition, bathroom/shower not nice at all, would not come back to this resort, Prices far to high for what you get
5.8 Okay
Pros: -excellent breakfast buffet -staff was very nice and helpful -free paddle and kayak available -motorbike rental available on site
Cons: -open air bathroom is a good idea but poor quality (too old) and mosquitos in the evening -very small pool -no real beach and too few sun chairs -some rooms are noisy because close to the main road -restaurant is a bit expensive
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location and pretty much comfortable to stay, super cool staff so friendly and helpful <3
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice and friendly staffs beautiful front beach room with close to the beach. Food was okay and convenient.
Cons: Over price charging by compared with room quality. Old bathroom/ toilet included other furnitures and equipment. All locking doors didn’t work and not well maintenance.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really sweet staff. The feeling of being so close to nature and the jungle, and at the sametime so close to the ocean. Recommend the ocean front bungalows. Great with the activity center. We loved it here.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms have very nice views and are also very romantic at night, staff is very kkndand friendly and helpfull and location is also very good close to the beach and the river and some lovely food restaurants!
Cons: Food is expensive in the restaurant in the resort and for breakfast when you wake up little bit late and go to breakfast at 9:30 you will get that the fruit juice and the water is not cold and some some products on the buffet will be empty also. Also the pool area is not like expected like on the photo on booking.com it’s very small pool, i think if the resort will ulgrade there pool area and put some more effort in the breakfast this is one of the best stays on Koh Kood for sure
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stripped back to real Thailand. Naturally beautiful & really relaxing. free kayak was a real treat, the beaches just across the bay are some of the best we have seen.

Pros: what a horrible place, no tv, no double bed, no bananas, the outside shower does not work, etc etc away from it all horrible beach of course, much too expensive for the service run away
Cons: no tv, no double bed
7.0 Good
Pros: The pool is great and houses are located really nice. The food from the menu is good thougd the restaurant is not a very cosy place to sit, very 'clean' and not romantic at all.
Cons: The staff is friendly but most of them do not speak english. The owner is an investor and that is reflected in the policy and way staff acts. For example: they charge extra for a small camping/babybed, we havent experienced that before in a 4 or 5 star accomodation in Asia. Phone and e-mails were not answered for many times when we tried to call and asked questions by e-mail before arrival. Nobody was there when we wanted to check out in the morning, we had to wait for 30 min for the english speaking frontdesk staff arrived. The restaurant is not very cosy. We chose to have dinner at resorts close by because of a nicer atmosphere. Although the food is good.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice and quiet resort with a beautiful pool
Cons: Limited services besides the restaurant
7.0 Good
Pros: It was a very nice hotel, clean rooms and sea view from all villas. Nice infinity pool and very peaceful environment, few people.
Cons: It was very far away from the Main Street, you had to go by motorbike to buy water. The beach was not nice, a lot of rocks so you couldn’t bathe from there. The staff was very slow and didn’t pay attention. The lack of English made it hard to understand each other, which lead to a lot of confusion. They were slow in the restaurant and kitchen. They forgot about things a lot! We paid the bill for the whole stay when we checked out and a bit later they came back to us and said they forgot about a bill so we had to pay more. We booked our trip to Koh Kut with them and they kept telling us the taxi/boat was delayed. Once we made the pier we sat there waiting for over an hour and finally a fishing boat came to pick us up... a very unstructured staff. Would recommend to stay at another hotel in Koh Mak.
6.3 Good
Pros: Room is okay.
Cons: Breakfast is not much choice.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a lovely hotel if you want to be by yourself pool is lovely and apartments are clean and Wright on the beach
Cons: The only thing is the location you have to get motor bike or taxi anywhere as it is in the middle of nowhere
4.5 Okay
Pros: The quietness.
Cons: The beach of the hotel is absolutely not nice and there are many sharp rocks in the water. The water on that side on the island is mostly muddy and brown due to the location of the hotel. The jacuzzi did not work, the TV was broken and the food in the restaurant did not taste good. That is also the reason why no guests are there. And you cannot close the doors of your room. Every mosquito and or people can enter your room. Not nice. In the drinking water tube in the bathroom we had for four days sea water and the water was brown. And the shower was cold for 4 days as well. No compensation was offered and refused. And very important: It is not allowed to bring your own food to your hotel room. You are supposed to buy everything in the hotel which is a scam. And only one day before our arrival on Koh Mak we received an email from the hotel that we have to pay the 40.000 THB in cash. Otherwise they charge an extra of 3%. I strongly recommend everyone to book a hotel on the Northern side of the Island. The beaches are much more beautiful and you have various places to eat and drink and relax.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful resort, ideal for relaxing in amazing surroundings. Beautiful pool, clean and comfortable bungalows, good breakfast.
Cons: The beach in front is beautiful but not the best if you prefer swimming in the sea than in the swimmig pool. The resort is a bit far from the village/restaurants (which makes it a good spot for complete relax) and you need a motorbike if you want to move.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredible - so kind & welcoming, you really did feel like part of the family. The resort is nicely laid out, and the views are lovely - its a great resort for spotting night time wildlife too - hermit crabs, lizards, geckos etc. We loved sitting in the restaurant & watching the thunderstorms rattle across the islands. The villas are pretty & the beds are comfy. The decor is a little careworn, and could do with updating. And the additional tea & coffee making like our other hotels would be nice. But it was clean & comfortable - the outdoor shower was fab, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. There was a coffee machine available in the hotel lobby, and the breakfasts were large & varied. We rented mopeds from the hotel (all well looked after & in good condition), and you need this really to see your way around Koh May, its such a lovely island with hidden beaches, villages and people to talk to. It'd be a shame to stay in one place. We recommend trying the Little Moon villa resort down the road for lunch - great food & a lovely view, and within walking distance. The pool is beautiful & well stocked with loungers & cabanas. I highly recommend you go to Koh Kahm too - its a fascinating place with great snorkelling off a small reef. We chose to kayak across, but there is a boat too. Plus an abandoned resort that looks like it was designed by Dr Evil as a holiday lair - excellent! All in all, a wonderful stay - I look forward to returning to Koh Mak.
Cons: Nothing really, we had a lovely stay. I have noticed other people complaining about sandflies, but we didn't experience any issues - I covered myself in coconut oil like the locals, so that may be why.

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Location awesome and beautiful views. However the resort next door was in my opinion far superior in price and beach location.
Cons: Pit bull dog chained up in reception, not the nicest thing to greet you after a long trip. Artificial beach was so small.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was good mainly because the restaurant and staff at the hotel NEXT DOOR were amazing. We spent our trip wishing we had stayed there. The rooms are cute and very clean at To The Sea but the bed is so uncomfortable and the facilities are extremely basic.
Cons: The bed is so uncomfortable it’s comfier on the floor! Average facilities, average food, staff need to be better trained. Terrible value for money, it’s way too expensive, would not stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Tasteful rooms, awesome outdoor shower! The place is not overcrowded und you feel like your alone on the island! The beach is stunnig and the pool is just another huge top-up! We loved it and plan to come back one day!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff give good recommend and they are very friendly. Nice beach Bad thing is they let drone fly free but they provide outdoor bathroom!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good resort!!!!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Great location Nice pool Enthusiastic staff
Cons: Resort was nice but soul less. Restaurant was expensive and not welcoming, menu was very basic so nobody eating there. Most guests were eating at the resort next door. The pool turned green for three days Wifi was very unreliable even in public areas and would only work in the room for a few minutes at a time.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Only staffs at the hotel were nice and friendly. At least they were trying to deliver our requests.
Cons: The quality of everything. Breakfast section extremely needs to be improved. The quality could tell how much you care your guests. When we moved to the next room which was more expensive. We expected something better but not at all. We couldn’t use any Wifi, we heard the mouse ran on the roof. The shower was broken like the first room we stayed at first.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing
5.0 Okay
Pros: The beach is one of the best on the island, great views, 3 or 4 bars, not busy, beautiful location. The resort looks promising from the outside but scratch beneath the surface and you will find it's not what it makes itself out to be.
Cons: This place could be great but the owner doesn't seem to care. We booked a beach front room - didn't get one (they blamed Booking.com) but were offered 25% discount or a full refund if we wanted to stay somewhere else, not easy with a family at 5pm. The room had no draws or cupboards so our clothes ended up on a heap on the floor. The resort itself has no beach but has a half arsed attempt at some hard ground decking. There are bizarrely only 4 loungers and 2 of them are broken. The bar and restaurant are practically non existent, we ate next door or jumped on motorbikes to other places around the corner. Talking to the staff the owner, who lives in Bangkok, is interested in making money and not too much about consumer experience. I would suggest that anyone looking at staying on this beach try the other resorts first. It put a stain on our stay - it wasn't cheap and feels like a missed opportunity.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and grounds. Good snorkeling.
Cons: Lock was very hard to use, needed replacing. Bathroom is down four very steep stairs with no railing.
4.5 Okay
Pros: There is no arguing with the view, it is very nice. Also the staff is very friendly and help you the best they can, except the cleaning lady. In the nights there was a guy that spoke English and he gave us very good advice for places to eat and the best beaches. The manager changed our room quickly and works hard. We have the idea they do the best they can under the circumstances.
Cons: When we arrived there was nobody that spoke English so we couldn't ask anything. The room we got was not what we expected. There were bugs everywhere and even if you closed the door they could still get in. The bathroom was a disaster, there was living an ant colony, big en small bugs and molt. There where no pictures of the bathroom on the website and now we understood why! It is truely outdoors. My girlfriend didn't even dear to go there to pee, let alone shower. Because there was nobody that spoke English we had to wait till the manager arrived in the night. I asked him if they had another room and luckily they had one, but it did cost 30 euros a night more. The second room was bug free but that bathroom had also ants and big cockroaches and spider webs. When we tried to take a shower the head felt to the ground and you had to hold it yourself. There almost comes no water out of it so it takes forever to shower. Don't drink the water there, not in the breakfast or the one in the refrigerator . It's not mineralwater!! Even the boiled water you use to make your coffee I. Breakfast tastes bad! Also the hygiene in the room is not what you expect in Thailand in a room for almost 100 euros a day! The owner (the invisible man behind the scenes who's never there) says it is all so outdoors to be good for the environment but he is just a big cheapskater because there is lots of plastic used everywhere. The coffee is the worst we ever tasted in our lives. If you like outdoor experience this is the place to be, but you can also just put your tent some where and have the same comfort..
4.5 Okay
Pros: The Resort Horizon on Koh Kood is located in a great area. Each bungalow has a nice view on the sea and the environment is spectacular. Unfortunately that is the only good thing for the Resort. The owner is french and many french tourists are on Koh Kood. + clean bungalows every day + beautiful environment and view + renting scooter for okay prices (300 thb per day) + staff is nice and helpful
Cons: First of all I got an Email from the Resort owner Stephane. In this email he informs me that a PayPal invoice will be send to me regarding of their deposit policies. Quite strange for me. But at the end I did not get any PayPal invoice. He also mentioned that we can book any transfers or activities through him. Seems for me he only wanna upsell stuff. It was a cold dry message. At our arrival we felt a bit lost. We just got warm greetings from a French lady and then she went back to other people to talk with them. How can we check in ? What is our room nr. ? Luckily a very friendly American guy helped us for check in and all the questions we had. We decided to eat first in the restaurant but we waited quite long for our food. The food was also overpriced and not that nice. In the Resort Koh Kood you can get much better food and also cheaper prices in their bar "The Deck". So I can highly recommend to skip the restaurant. Also activities like kayaking is much cheaper at "The Deck" (just 50 THB and not 150THB per h like in the Horizon Resort). A big bottle of water was also super overpriced (70THB). In any MiniMart you can get it for 20THB. And here we got again the feeling again that they just wanna upsell and make as much money as possible for less as possible. But that was not the worst. When we wanted to check out and pay our bill we had a discussion about the fuel for the motorcycle. It was not mentioned that they will also charge us for the gasoline (60thb per l). If somebody would tell us this before we would give back a full tank. I told the owner that it would be helpful to read this information before. He just say: "If there is a problem I call the cops". He gives us the feeling to be criminals. That's an absolutely no go. We think at the the end we can shut one eye here and there but his attitude to serve customers let's just come us to the following conclusion: NEVER AGAIN.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The resort has a great view and there's great snorkelling right off the beach. The (mostly French) staff are really nice and take good care of you. Breakfast was excellent, great yoghurt and fruits as well as pancakes and toast. American breakfast is available too! The bungalows are cute and just the right size. There are a lot of friendly cats around too (the manager takes good care of them :-)) that come to say hi on your porch if you let them - we loved it.
Cons: The food in the restaurant was alright (dinner), but the place next door is a winner (Ngam Ko). The platforms with sunbeds are a bit worn down (yet serve their purpose).
6.5 Good
Pros: Spectacular view over the bay, beach close by, several restaurant options on the beach
Cons: Manager quite unfriendly (but reliable, e.g. for tour bookings), sanitary installations run-down
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The location of this resort is good.
Cons: The room is neither clean nor comfortable at all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view, peaceful and quiet area. Good location, easy to get both south and north parts of the island (by scooter that you can rent at the hotel at a good price). Our bungalow (we stayed in Horizon) was preety nice, clean and comfy. Helpful staff.
Cons: Breakfasts leave much to be desired.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is priceless, what a view ! Directly on one of the most beautiful beach of the island, great snorkeling spot too (the hotel rent the material if needed Room was nice with A/C Staff was very nice
Cons: Breakfast could be better
5.5 Okay
Pros: Price was reasonable. Breakfast was pretty good. The view from the room was lovely. The location of the massage was serene. The room aircon worked well, and the shower was nice and hot. Shampoo and soap were provided. The bar is a nice area also.
Cons: The door on the room didn't close properly, there was always a large gap. The bathroom drain was just a big hole in the corner of the floor, which made it easy for bugs and other critters to come in. The refrigerator and glass water bottle provided in the room were quite moldy. The staff was generally nice, but not always very helpful or attentive. At breakfast there was often no plates, or no bowls, or no forks, etc. They turned off the water in the rooms to repair a pump, without giving warning, so I had to wait an hour or so to get cleaned up. When room was cleaned, the door to my room was then left unlocked. The beach near the hotel is a bit tough to get to, with a rocky, precarious climb down, and there are lots of rocks and sea creatures in the water that make swimming and wading there a bit unpleasant.
5.5 Okay
Pros: View was really good and location is perfect. Very nice beach in front of the resort. Staff was friendly..
Cons: Only the floor and bed was cleaned for our stay. Spider webs in every corner of the room and the view window to the sea was dirty in and out. (fingerprints from last guests should not normally be all over the window.) overall condition was also a bit outdated, not as fresh as in pictures. With a little bit more effort this place could be really amazing but now for the money it is not in same class as few others.
