10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was terrific. The view when you open the door in the morning is superb. Parking is great. Park the car in free parking outside the city and the hotel pick you up af take you back. No driving in very narrow complicated streets in Matera. Also Breakfast was great and served by a very friendly and helpful lady.
Cons: The couches in the room were very interesting, they also act as a light. However they are a little uncomfortable. A very small thing the place is great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautifully designed and cleaned and have everything you need. I would stay again for the view alone is breathtaking.
Cons: The breakfast was disappointing the food did not seem very fresh and not a lot of choice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani is in the heart of all you came to see... behind San Pietro for ~200m, just beyond both the Casa Grotto and St Lucia, in Caveoso. Its rock-carved rooms are spotless, and hold every convenience you hope for... including a bathtub in #129, and coffee/tea making for that wake-up cuppa! It also overlooks the famous gorge of the ‘sassi’, and chauffeurs you to/from your car, safely parked on the outskirts of this pedestrian gem. Oh, and the breakfast is varied, fresh and superb!
Cons: Absolutely zilch!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room is right in front of a breathtaking valley. All comforts. Good breakfast. Right in the heart of Matera. Efficient taxi service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel location and view is superb! We'll come back to Matera and book this hotel again for sure!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very interesting hotel in the middle of the Sassi, room big and clean, staff very nice and location perfect to walk all the city
Cons: Quite difficult to find and the breakfast too simple
9.4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located in a quiet area with an unobstructed view across the valley. Interesting walks through the streets and paths. We had good fun losing our way in the misty fog trying to find our way but all the time feeling safe and sound. Hotel staff very friendly and a special thanks to Pasquale (hope that's spelt correctly) for the top class service of collecting us from our parked hire car which was outside the old cave town.
Cons: We had a brilliant time. Local Information Centre was asking for €40 each for a 2 hour tour. We managed Ok with online research and a lot of walking. Room 128 could have done with a cleaner toilet seat but the rest of the room was stunning and memorable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room in a lovely hotel, friendly staff and great location for Gallipoli.
Cons: The rooftop pool and large room!
7.1 Good
Cons: Upon departure, we had a car booked to take us to the airport at 4 am. That car never showed up. The night person (he didn’t give us his name) was absolutely terrible. He didn’t know how to make the payment, didn’t know how to calculate it or how to use a credit card. When we realised the car wasn’t coming, he was arguing with us and blaming the day staff that the didn’t leave a note telling him and he doesn’t have their numbers, they aren’t picking up, he doesn’t know who the driver is. When we asked him to call another taxi for us he did absolutely nothing and said no one is picking up. We had to call ourselves and find a taxi to pick us up and rush to the airport because we were 45 minutes late. This night person also refused to give us a contact of a manager because we were furious with him at that point, he even tried arguing with the taxi driver when he came (the one that we called) about how he tried to call him but his phone was off (which wasn’t true because we clearly managed to call). This person ruined our stay at the very last moment. He had no knowledge of his job or duties, blamed everyone else and took no responsibility. This was unacceptable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff was extremely helpful. They addressed our sudden request instantly. Everything in the hotel was up to its reputation. True 5 stars hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Incredible location and facility; like sleeping in a church!
Cons: Be prepared for darkness; very hard to light the rooms because of high ceilings.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient, the room we stayed architecturelly was extremely well designed and decorated reflecting ancient times.
Cons: Nothing that I can comment. The only difficulty is the parking availability being handled by a vale parking facility
La Casa DI Lucio Hotel Relais - Matera - Building

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The best thing about Hotel La Casa di Lucio was the breakfast prepared and hosted by the delightful Michele. The hotel was well located just off Piazza San Pietro Caveoso.
Cons: I have to say that I was quite disappointed in Casa di Lucio. For a Hotel de Relais, it was uninspiring. Here are the reasons: the hotel is divided into multiple properties -- we checked in at one location, walked to our room in a second, and had breakfast in a third. Apparently there is a restaurant, but we never saw it, nor did the room contain any info on it or other hotel features. The lighting in the room was beyond horrible; the light in the bathroom was insufficient to the task of putting on makeup, and you could not turn off the bedroom overhead light from within the bedroom, which was five steps down from the bathroom. There aren't enough plugs for electronics. The little sitting room contained a small table and one chair - our request for a second chair was not fulfilled. The bed, though comfortable with fine linens, consisted of two singles pushed together, an arrangement I wouldn't expect in a luxury hotel room for two. The bathtub was elevated (as was the bed), with no grab bar -- dangerous, for sure -- and the set-up of the telephone-style shower handle made it impossible not to flood the floor. For nearly €200/night, I expected much, much more.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location. Lorenzo was very welcoming & informative.
Cons: The room was a little dark - needed some more floor or side lights. A kettle in the room would be useful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mikela’s breakfast was the absolute best!! Thank you for your beautiful produce and amazing service
7.9 Good
Cons: Room was stuffy and over heated and the temperature of the room could not be controlled.
9.6 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect and romantic location, amazing hospitality, nice breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A peaceful haven in the heart of Matera, allowing us to explore this historic town. All the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Fantastic service from Michealo, who looked after us during our stay and provided a delicious breakfast with local fruit, meats, cheeses, pastries, breads and much more. The staff arranged safe parking for our car. Rooms are Cool, spotless and stylish, with comfortable beds and outdoor sitting area. Thank you for a fantastic stay. Would recommend to others thinking of visiting.

Sant'Angelo Luxury Resort - Matera - Building

9.1 Excellent (421 reviews)

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Event facilities at this hotel consist of a conference center and a meeting room. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge.
7.9 Good
Pros: The property is in a fantastic location, one minute's walk from the Church of St Peter Caveoso and overlooking the Belvedere di Murgia national park (rooms don't necessarily have views). The welcome at check-in was very good and Lorenzo was very friendly and helpful, providing good restaurant recommendations.
Cons: Euro 50 for two days of 'valet' parking (considering for the weekend the car does not move) seems a little steep and there do not seem to be other, self-parking options available (or at least the hotel is not able to propose them).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, views, breakfast, restaurant, staff
Cons: Lacking a bit of hanging and draw space
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Staff were professional and attentive. Breakfast was fabulous.
Cons: We liked everything.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was an interesting hotel- How often are your lodging accommodations in a cave? It was a fun experience! Th room itself was very large with a balcony. It was very modern, new and clean. The modern bathtub was actually in the room! The view was unbelievable-felt like we were in the clouds! Really enjoyed the morning mist.
Cons: I felt the front desk personnel could have been warmer and more informative and welcoming- The bell hops, on the other hand, were wonderful and work hard! There was a lot of walking up to our specific room and it was not easy. One has to be young to accomplish this without worry. Be forewarned, It is definitely worth the experience. Matera is a magical place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, immaculate room. Location couldn’t be better. And the staff was wonderful. A bit expensive but worth it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The position was amazing and the suite quite unique as we were in a cave suite. Breakfast really good in a wonderful cave restaurant.
Cons: I think that the lighting in our room could be improved
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant view.
Cons: Staff - unprofessional. No parking infront of location, only valet parking for € 25 per day plus each time you want to use your car, it’s another € 5 on the top.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7.3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous.
Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good

Pros: all, excellent design, unique location and environment
Cons: restaurant is not cheap
7.6 Good
Pros: Interesting, excellent standard of accommodation, great setting and area.
Cons: 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.

Pros: The best The service 150%
Cons: No complaints
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the property modern and clean.
Cons: The only issue was that is the description it stated that the suite 210 was 100 meters away from reception. It DID NOT mention that those 100 meters were down a very steep walkway of some 80 odd steps or more. my wife has a back issue and found this very difficult to traverse on a daily basis. If we had known this we would not have booked this suite. would not recommend suites 201-210 to anyone with walking difficulties.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Tricky to access, very dry in rooms at night, staff speak no English...as in zero
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in a Sassi suite that had a sauna. Beautiful room. Perfect location in middle of Matera and near I Sassi. During breakfast, the lovely women attendants served a local pastry that is easily had one of the best pastries I’ve ever eaten ( le tette delle monache). 7.1 Good
Pros: Excellent Location
Cons: Bathroom very small
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, helpful staff
Cons: Electric jug in room/coffee
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent cleaning service, and very central position, perfect for walks in the city centre at every time of the day.
Cons: I had a room on the street side. The street below is a street in the heart of the city centre, which is not quiet, not early in the morning nor late in the evening.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the centre of Matera. A friendly bar next door was convenient. The historic old town is a few minutes walk away. Lots of restaurants nearby. Less than 10 minutes walk from the central bus station.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location at the entrance to the Sassi and right onthe edge of the pedestrians only area. Comfortable room although there were a few steps to negotiate on the way after leaving the lift. I enjoyed spending some time relaxing in the rooms furnished with period pieces and antiques.
Cons: I could hear the nighttime partying and exuberant diners in the adjoining building even when my windows were closed. This may only be disturbing on weekends. Serves a continental breakfast only with reasonable choices .
6.3 Good
Pros: the position
Cons: horrible mix of styles and forniture, bad lighting
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really centrally located on the edge of the old town - the rooms are neat and clean. I had a room with three beds that was simply furnished. My sister had a suite for two people that was much bigger that had antique style furniture. Breakfast was very good. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and very helpful. As stated, the hotel is in a great location with all main sites in Matera in ready walking distance. I thought it was good value for money.
Cons: The hotel is in a pedestrian only area which means if you have a car you'll have to find parking nearby and walk with your bags to the hotel. It's not such a problem but it might inconvenience some people...

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff, the owner couple, were very nice and accommodating and served a fabulous breakfast They said that they will soon have the outdoors landscaped They made reservations for us at "Morgan's" restaurant and it was wonderful. Nick, the proprietor, spoke excellent English and, if desired, will drive you any where you want to go and gives tours all around Puglia. We had a car so we did not take him up on his FREE taxis service in his beautiful vehicle
Cons: No place to sit outside even though there is a beautiful view
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were fantastic! Guise (sp?) came and found us when we were lost, gave us a ride into town and picked us up after our tour. She was so nice and helpful. Nick made us excellent coffee at breakfast and provided us with a top notch breakfast. Location slightly out of town but would definitely return because our hosts were so fabulous. Facilities were very clean, spacious and comfortable too.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very accommodating. Nick took us into town and his wife picked us up. Breakfast was fantastic, served in their own kitchen.
Cons: A little out from main town. Our room did not have a view, but some rooms overlooked a beautiful valley.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The "Hosts" Josie & Nik could not have been more helpful. Josie took us into town and collected us for the return trip when we were ready.
Cons: Overall it was very, very basic and the gardens etc were rundown. No patio or veranda to sit out at !! Finding the place was very difficult as the full address was not supplied.not hot facilities in the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good. We used it as a base to visit Matera. We parked our car there and took a taxi.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to town with plenty of parking. Big spacious bedroom and bathroom. Friendly hosts. Host prepares homemade breakfast which was delicious.

Cons: shower floor very slick....fell
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An incredible and romantic experience that is unique and not reproducible elsewhere. Francesco and the staff were very helpful and made our stay memorable. This is a green hotel...they are preserving a bit of world culture and heritage. Don't pass this up for a stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: How different the experience was. To see the renovation of these caves. The restoration of furniture
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are amazing and the breakfast spread had lots of choice. The rooms are all individual and staying in one of the caves you felt the history! There are lovely touches in the room and staff are obviously very proud of the hotel and it’s history. It was a short up hill walk to the piazza with the cathedral and lots of sites and restaurants.
Cons: I personally found the cave room a dampish cold and eerie experience. There was nothing missing in the provision and the pillar candles and complimentary wine and fruit were well thought touches but I like nice smells and the atmosphere just wasn’t for me. We only stayed one night which was quite expensive. Fellow guests though found their stays amazing and experienced the in room massages and tried the cookery class and raves about them. Definitely an experience!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Unique rooms, huge options for breakfast, free bottle of wine in room, friendly staff, car service (parking garage included in room rate)
Cons: Needs More lighting in room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantactstic staff. Simply amazing location. Exceptional. We travelled with teenage kids and the staff could not have been more helpful or welcoming.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very unique stay! Definitely a high end rustic experience. Worth noting that the room does smell like a cave if you have any issues with that.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is fantastic Staff is perfect
Cons: None

Featured amenities include a business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation. Thermae Romano...complete with sauna, hydro massage etc.
Cons: Advertised as a junior suite with jacuzzi...didn’t have a jacuzzi.Only one of the junior suites did and this was on a ‘ first guests to arrive get it’ basis!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Difficult to have a bad location in Matera! What a special place. The view from room 84 was spectacular. We did not mind the fact that it was not located in the main building at all. Staff was very helpful with our one large suitcase...lots of stairs! The room and the view exceeded expectations! Breakfast could have been a bit more generous in the food choices available given the pricing.
Cons: After booking the room through booking.com I have never had a more difficult time with a hotel. They kept threatening to cancel the reservation even after booking.com called them twice to point out the issue was with their system! It should be pointed out that booking.com was initially slow to provide the required customer service to solve the issue, but came through in the end. Glad we made it!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was superb. The spa was fun. The location was great.
Cons: We didn't understand that the full bed was up a scary flight of stairs. Also, I thought we could get an extra bed because there were four of us old women, but couldn't. It would be great for less and younger people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room, very clean and quiet. Very good breakfast. We used the thermal spa and it was fantastic and very relaxing.
Cons: Parking in Matera is a nightmare
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a dependance room which was lovely, away from the main part of the hotel and enjoyed the independence of our own space and the outdoor area looking over the Sassi. The room facilities were excellent but we had an unexplained extra trundle bed in our room (booked for a couple) which meant we had no indoor seating. However it didn’t bother us very much as the weather was lovely and we sat outside. The parking facility at Autoservizi Damasco was excellent and very well organised - both on arrival, at departure and on a day trip we made during our stay. Don’t bother trying to find the hotel when you first arrive (if you’re driving) - just drive straight to the parking garage on Recinto XX Settembre and they will transport you & your luggage to reception (down stairs & via a lift) with no hassle whatsoever.
Cons: The breakfast was very good but we decided it was easier and less fuss to go into the main square and have a real Italian coffee and delicious pastry for breakfast at Gran Caffe in Piazza Vittorio Veneto
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The underground spa is fantastic and the view from the balcony outside the room is a pleasure.
Cons: I don't like having to pay for the underground pool, + spa facilities as the room is quite expensive. But the location is very good and the spa is one of the best I've been to.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Love experiencing the Roman Thermal bath quite relaxing.
