9.5 Excellent
Pros: Randall and his family were so wonderful. They made this stay so lovely.
Cons: Would have liked a fan in the room. The hot water also did not work.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location and amazing host! Randall was so helpful and welcoming. He greeted us with coffee upon arrival and helped us book our activities for the next day right away. We were pretty wiped out after the rough drive up the roads there. It was wonderful to have help planning our ziplining excursion and getting directions into town for the evening. I wish we had more time to stay here! Binoculars are provided for bird watching. It is a beautiful property and seemed like a low-key, mellow crowd when we were there. Good breakfast with option of eggs. Homemade granola and jam were great! And lots of fresh fruit.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful wooden cabin in stunning scenery No tv - just nature No a/c - just fresh air Friendly helpful people Good shower pressure Great breakfast Super restaurant watching hummingbirds feeding
Cons: Needed a taxi to get to the village or activities (If you have a car - no problem)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I would highly recommend Belcruz B&B to anyone traveling to the Monteverde area. Our room was spacious and spotless. It was just two of us but there were two rooms that could easily accommodate 4 people. The owner put a lot of time and thought into the landscaping and property. I enjoyed the little hike between the rooms and the restaurant. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. My favorites were the homade granola and jam. The hospitality of the owner was some of the best I've encountered anywhere. He was genuinely happy to have us there and went out of his way to accommodate. A great value overall. I will stay here again if I return to the area.
Cons: No complaints.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: - Comfortable beds - View from balcony - Very good breakfast - Tea/Coffee on the house - Owner courtesy - Value for money - Birding opportunity from restaurant balcony
Cons: - Toiletries included only 2 small soap bars.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and food overall. Clean rooms with everything needed. Friendly owner who is ready to help. 20-25 minutes to Monteverde cloud forest. Nice view from the terrace.
Cons: Sometimes can hear noise of local cars trying to manage bumpy road.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was amazing, committed and homely vibe to the b&b
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Randall and his family provided an impressive service; the breakfast was superb and the rooms are good enough. The hotel is a bit far from Santa Elena, but it's definitely worth the trip for the price.
Cons: Nothing to add here.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view from the property over the mountains was beautiful - the sunset and mountains and the quiet. The staff (family run) were lovely - very friendly, helpful, nice home cooked breakfast, attentive with the room, luggage and taxi. It felt like a very cosy and warm farm type stay.
Cons: The property is 30min walk or 10min taxi to the nearest town of Santa Elena on a dusty road - the road stretches across the whole area. The room was comfortable but basic (no fan or air con, the shower drain was smelly so had to keep the bathroom window open).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent help with tours and general information
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly staff (owners and family) but at the same time not invasive at all. Very nice cabin-like rooms, with comfy bed and nice bathroom and shower. Staff very attentive into details.
Cons: Those travelling with Claro mobile (wouldn’t recommend it for a start) won’t have signal, there’s no WiFi in the rooms either so enjoy the time disconnected by connecting with partners, friends or strangers, or just reading a good book.

Cons: I liked it.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: i booked the room also for the tub but there was no plug. no bath possible.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A friendly and very well located establishment with easy access to Monteverded and other local attractions. The breakfast was excellent and the rooms were great.
Cons: The pictures suggested the site was in the rainforest-which it is not. But just a few minutes away, so close enough to be a very easy drive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and comfortable room! Big shower, great beds, very very clean (every day!). Also, we are birders and went out very early, so we got take to take our breakfast with us. No problem to even make it 5.30am!! Warm pancakes, fruits and fruits:) very friendly! Garden and surroundings are pretty good for birds. It's a good place not too far from town, but still quite quiet.
Cons: The people spoke only Spanish, but nothing that we couldn't manage with the little Spanish we speak.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hospitality , Manuel helped me out with recomandations and order activities for me. Very pleasant stay.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very well located in a quiet and close to nature zone. A beautiful view to the mountain and the cloud forest. The chalets are well designed, very clean, spacious and very comfortable. The staff is very helpful and attentional. The family who runs the hotel is very warm and welcoming, making you feel at home. A perfect ecosystem, from the hotel, to the family, to the park guides and great tips ! A great place to explore the area and stay cozy at night.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The patio overlooking the garden was just great! The owers were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.
6.8 Good
Cons: The room was above the dinning hall with stairs. Just a bed without any place at all to put your staf. No windows that you can open. No door to the toilet, just a curtain. Shower inside the bedroom... Breakfast was agg and coffee, nothing to tell about - Not great at all.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfasts and great hospitality from the family who runs the place! They made sure that our stay was comfortable and were nice and friendly. They also have kids, so it was nice for our daughter to interact with their kids. We also had dinner there one night and the casado was excellent! The view from our second-floor room was excellent. We could sit on our patio with a beer in hand, watching the sun set over the canopy.
Cons: You'll need a car to get from the guesthouse to the centre of Monteverde. The roads in Monteverde are pretty bad - unpaved and rocky. Also, the bathroom in our room is open-air, which is pretty cool and you get to see the sunset from the shower, but it can be pretty cold to take a shower there especially at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very attentive, friendly and available. Breakfast was excellent and served fresh. Perfect way to start the day.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The "family experience". It is nice to see how this casa (3 rooms available) is built around the home of Jesus and Aussie. The whole family is very friendly & helpful - from finding tours/transportation to cooking meals. The breakfast is nice too. Aussie cooked one evening meal for us which was delicious. Our room was spatious and very clean. Thank you very much Jesus, Aussie, Natalia, Andres & Jason!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is outstanding. Beautiful grounds and the staff are wonderful; very personal in their service. The food is some of the best in the area. The room was stunning, you don't need any air con as it's cool enough. We saw a huge amount of wildlife from the moment we arrived, often right outside our room. Watching the cloud float in over the swimming pool was mesmerising! Simply brilliant hotel all round. I honestly cant fault it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel for the price, great parking and location, walking distance to town and short drive to national parks. Lovely a la carte breakfast. Fantastic service, especially liked the little touches of robes in the room, nice turn down service and was welcomed by name at the door when we arrived. The grounds are also beautiful, lots of lovely common areas, gardens and beautiful views.
Cons: Rooms were a little small and dark where we stayed, but kingsize bed made up for it and it was super comfortable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Paradise within paradise.
Cons: Absolutely nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel - staff are lovely and go above and beyond. Organised lots of trips for us (night tour, ziplining) which were fab and good value for money in low season when not many other tourists are around. Lots of nice extra touches in room - turndown service each night with fresh water and cookies left in room, towels to wipe your muddy boots after the forest. Our room was lovely and big with a nice outdoor area with a hammock. The grounds are amazing - stunning views and lots of areas to relax and spot wildlife.
Cons: Nothing - would thoroughly recommend.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, incredible setting and great food.
Cons: Walls were a bit thin if you had noisy neighbours or people talking in the corridor.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, staff, and boarding.
Cons: My only gripe would be that since the restaurant was above our room, the staff would wake us up when they dragged chairs to tables in the morning to prepare for breakfast. Other than that, this place was AMAZING!!!
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful balcony and nice restaurant to watch the sunsets. Really good microbrewery on site!
Cons: Breakfast wasn't included. I thought it was. The decor is a LOT of wood.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome Location with a great staff!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Farm to Table restaurant is great. Though would be nice to include a breakfast at least. Got a great B&B cabin feel, walk out to the balcony and teleport into Costa Rica's famous cloud forest. Get up early in the morning and catch all the birds waking up and do what they do best.
Cons: Cleaning could be a bit more meticulous. It's nice place for a romantic spot. Thought it is on the higher spectrum of price point for attempting to maintain the boutique aspect. Being it the off-season there is some extra's to be longing for. I'm glad I didn't run into any of the "snobs" this place could possibly attract. Though always go in with minimal expectation and go with your gut feeling. Pura Vida!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous views and comfy rooms
Cons: Far away from everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved this gem!!! From the grounds, food, staff, and all the bird watching. Highly recommend
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Belmar was unique and had a very cozy feel. We were upgraded to the Sunrise Room. This was a great room that provided fantastic views of the mountains and valley. The staff were very friendly and were able to quickly help. One of the highlights was the food. The menu is farm to table and showcases the Hotel's own farm. Every meal was very good. The Hotel also has a great brewery. I tried their 3 regular beers (Pale Ale, IPA and Tropical Stout) as well as their season Kolsch. These were excellent and really demonstrated their local ingredients and styles.
Cons: We were on the top floor of the chalet building and it was quite windy our entire stay. It was noisy due to this and the building would shake a little. Not the Hotel's fault, but something to be aware of. The other thing that was an issue, but out of control of the Hotel itself was the entitled guests. I was embarrassed by the other US tourists which included inattentive mother indulging in selfies in the jacuzzi while her unruly children splashed around and were terrible, another that started an argument with the restaurant staff about their destruction of the earth because they served meat on the menu (Note Hotel Belmar runs a sustainable farm to table and are part of the solution) and finally the people complaining that the wine by the glass was not the one they wanted. The Hotel and the staff handled all these people with grace but I wish other US tourists would act like the guests they are in other countries.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The balcony in the room that let’s you listen to the breeze of the forest
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was beautiful! Tours were great! Food was awesome!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They helped us book a ziplining excursion and scheduled a pick up. Our suite had a swing with beautiful views!
Cons: Most other hotels offer complimentary breakfast and for the price of this hotel, it would have been nice if breakfast was included.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the breakfast each morning. The staff was super helpful. We would recommend this hotel based on location and price. It was a friendly place and felt safe.
Cons: Parking was tight but present. This is Monteverde so parking is tight everywhere due to the vertical and tight nature of the hills.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, steps away from downtown Santa Elena (but uphill walk), delicious hearthy bfast, very friendly staff, a welcoming sausage dog. All good!!
Cons: There is a building material store next door and they open early (6.30am-ish) I think. The nouse from loading unloading might disturb your sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and the Hostel and rooms are very clean. We really enjoyed the nice breakfast with fruits, pancake or omlette in the sun. In total a very nice place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, it was a pleasure to stay there. We got a map and very handy tips on arrival. You can book tours and pick-up at reception. There's an electric kettle, tea and coffee available at reception, and there's a fridge in the room! Brilliant for the stay with our 18-month-old. B&B is less than a minute walk to the centre of Monteverde, restaurants and a supermarket.
Cons: Not a lot and definitely nothing major. The window in the bathroom was a bit difficult to close (no handle, tight hinges). Parking and driveway can be tight at times so I'd recommend reverse parking

The waiters at the restaurant made us feel at home. Great services. The room services ladies were very nice and took care of our requests.
Cons: Variable weather being on top of the mountain. Got very rainy and cooler at night. Big temperature swings. Water was slight cool for shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Views are stunning. The private trails are interesting and packed with wildlife.. IF you have the patience to wait and listen. We saw capuchin monkeys, agouti, coatis, vultures, toucans, toucanets and even the bell bird (Google it!) ..... Wonderful. Food was also good, staff super friendly and the owner a mine of information.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A perfect place to stay! From the moment I arrived, everything was great. The staff (in particular Erick and Stefanny) were SO helpful - they recommended tours, booked these for me, assisted me with taxis and bus timetables, and were just generally really accommodating. Monteverde Inn is located on a private nature reserve, so there's a short hike that you can do through the day, or the Night Walk in the evening. I saw so many animals and the views from the reserve are spectacular. I would thoroughly recommend this location as your base whilst in Monteverde.
Cons: The location is a little out of the way, but is absolutely worth the short walk for the incredible views. I would recommend taking a taxi when you have luggage as the hill from the town centre to the location is quite steep.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff and wonderful views in a very relaxing location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great place to stay in Monte Verde. The location is really great, the views in the garden, the room, the breakfast, the reserve... nothing to change !

Cons: Roaches at the dining table, rock hard beds, no couches/living room, no AC, noisy small fans, dirty bed linens that smelled of sweat and dead skin, broken plumming that didn't allow water to drain in shower, shower rod poorly installed landed on my sons head.

Pros: Very nice, remote private retreat. Has hiking trails on property that are well marked. Breakfast is included and was very good. WiFi was one of the best we had. Showers hot with decent pressure.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay here! The property is beautiful - lush wildlife with a lot of activity from birds and small animals. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We told them it was our honeymoon and were greeted with a bottle of wine and flower petals in our room :) We took advantage of the night hike and canopy tour which is right on the property - definitely book this while you're here! Breakfast is included and very fresh and delicious, they also have a happy hour with very reasonable prices. It rained a lot during our stay but our room was clean, dry, comfortable, perfect temperature (there is no AC but you really don't need it!),
Cons: Comfort of the beds could be improved - I could feel the springs through our mattress. Location is a bit of a hike from town and up a steep hill - luckily we didn't have our own car and taxi to town is only $5
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was lovely and the property was beautiful, we had a car which was nice for seeing the area and around town. Had trouble with a tire and the staff fixed it for us! The use of the hotel’s umbrellas was also great. I booked this place for the trails they have on their property and it did not disappoint!
Cons: Breakfast was awesome but we weren’t as happy with the restaurant for other meals, ended up going to town for dinner and lunch.

Pros: The location was close to town. It's down the hill so we missed it the first time but the lady in the coffee shop was very helpful. Breakfast was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about it was great. Lovely staff/family running the hostel. The free coffee was excellent.
Cons: All good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good Breakfast, nice kitchen, good location.
Cons: Bit old fashioned room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were great, especially Mariela. She was very patient with my Spanish and helped me with my pronunciation. Marlaney was very efficient and had perfect English, so communication for booking tours etc was easy. My upstairs room, room 10, was excellent, with great shower and hot water. I liked it so much I chose to stay another day. Very close to town. They have good contacts for tours and transport to other places.
Cons: The kettle in the kitchen was not working and it wasn't clear initially that you could help yourself to milk in the fridge and make your own tea and use the coffee machine . My room was initially downstairs but that is the same area as the kitchen, so I thought it would be noisy, so I paid more and changed to upstairs, which also has done seats and a view of the trees . It would be useful to have a bedside lamp in the room. The biggest problem was that often the office was not staffed, even though it says it is open from 7am-9pm, and there was no way to summon anyone to the office. Maybe a buzzer system or a phone time call someone to the office would be useful. The area it is in is quite hilly, but that applies to all the accommodation in this area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were very happy with our experience. The staff were extremely helpful, booking our tour and making recommendations for us. The breakfast was good, and the kitchen area was clean and very well equipped.

Pros: We had a private room for 2 with bathroom and the staff all went out of their way to make us comfortable! With our room, our breakfast was included. Breakfast was good and imcluded eggs, toaste and fruit. This was a very nice place esecially for the price we paid!
Cons: This was a bed and breakfast, but the kitchen closed at 9pm.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our double room very small but there were good communal areas. Wifi good, bed comfortable, hot showers and good breakfast. Well equipped and clean kitchen - the best we've had in 5 months of travelling.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Decent breakfast came with stay. Staff very friendly and helpful in making suggestions and arrangements for excursions. Location lovely—in lush setting.
Cons: We were contacted by their staff (they called our driver) while we were enroute to our next destination, that we had left something behind in the safe in our room. Because we were in transit, we could not resolve the issue then concerning how to have it returned. Later we e-mailed and then called. They said they had received our email and would get back to us. Despite further repeated attempts to call and followup emails, we have never heard another word from them.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant had a nice porch where we could sit in the afternoon and enjoy a tea or coffee and look at the birds. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast very much. The location of the place is great - away from the busy town centre of Santa Elena.
Cons: The view from our room wasn't as attractive as we hoped it would be.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the raised rooms set in the jungle with awesome views. Room was very clean, excellent bathroom, nice balcony. Great place to watch birds. Very friend people with nice breakfast and afternoon coffee. Monteverda is a super cool town with great restaurants.
Cons: Monteverda is a difficult location to drive to due to the poor approaching roadways; everyone in gravel. I was a nervous wreck after 50 km of gravel and one flat tire. If your up for the drive, Cala Lodge is an excellent place to stay.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was very good but the room was small and with no fan or AC we had to leave the windows open at night. Most of the motorcycles in the area have had their mufflers altered and so are 20 times as loud as a stock motorcycle and we heard them all through the night from our room. The lodge is at the same elevation as the main road and so the noise travels unintterupted.
Cons: Breakfast was sparse with a tiny amount of fruit. Only place we have stayed at in Costa Rica that did not provide a breakfast buffet. Feeding station for birds was left bare most of the time and then the staff would toss out watermelon which attracted only a squirrel, mot mot, and a brown jay. A cafe in town puts out orange slices and this attracted many more birds including two species of orioles.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the staff is very friendly , the breakfast is included and of a very good quality. the room was huge and clean. very good value for money.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great. We liked the walking trail and location close to, but not in, town. It is a good place from which to explore all that Monte Verde has to offer. Good restaurants are within walking distance and downtown is a short taxi ride away.
Cons: The rooms were a little small.
7.0 Good
Pros: The quietness of the place, the nice staff, the location and the little garden with its cute trail to discover many kinds of birds
Cons: The room had a really weird and unpleasant smell
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is right at the edge of the national park in monteverde, with balcony perfect for scenery and real bird watching. Free Al carte breakfast, and staff was helpful arranging tours, recommendations, etc. Delightful stay for my wife and me.

Pros: We liked the super friendly staff. The property is beautiful, with pool, jacuzzi, and restaurant. We liked the breakfast that was included. It is within walking distance to Santa Elena shops and restaurants.
Cons: Some people may find the lack of elevators a bit challenging. If there was one there, we didn’t see it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I totally loved this placed it has the best location I could ever ask and the staff is just lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant was fantastic and for a visit during off-season, the staff was still incredibly responsive.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, great pool for grandson
Cons: Did not replace towels and facecloths in room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, rooms, front desk, beautiful view
Cons: Breakfast is limited, have Just few options and can't repeat. Restaurant Waiter not very friendly
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. Greeted us with fresh towels and a welcome drink upon arrival (which was delicious). Explained to us not only how the property works, but gave us an entire run down on how to get around the town without a car. They included a map with bus routes and prices! The food at the restaurant was also AMAZING. Breakfast is included in your stay and rather than the regular continental breakfast every hotel has, they hand you a menu with 5 different options or so of gourmet breakfast meals that they prepare fresh for you. Fresh fruit and cereal is also available buffet style.
Cons: The hotel is in the forest, so if you leave your doors or windows open for even a minute, bugs and little creatures WILL find their way into your room!!! (This is not something the hotel can control, just be mindful!)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quirky little place in the middle of the Monteverde cloud forest area. Very friendly and helpful staff who gave good advice and arranged activities. Room and grounds was clean. Not fancy but fine for the occasion. Free breakfast was great. Large grounds with lots of birds in the trees.
Cons: No a/c in the room. Some rooms had it, ours didn’t.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is excellent, you can walk to tons of stuff in St. Elena. It is across the street from a bunch of restaurants and stores. It includes parking. The pool is very nice and covered, which is great if it rains. The bed is comfortable and AC is strong. The staff was all lovely.
Cons: The room was very noisy, both from street traffic and from people closing their doors. The doors make very loud slamming noises. The breakfast was not my favorite, but perhaps I just ordered poorly.

Pros: The gardens and pool were a pleasure, and the art everywhere was a delight.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff. The hotel is very nice and had lots of amenities. The breakfast is delicious with lots of options.
Cons: The food is a little pricey. It’s an amazing and restful location, but it’s very high in the mountain, so it’s a little hard to wander around on foot.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was good.
Cons: The booking.com website is incorrect. There is no air conditioning (when I mentioned this to the hotel, they told me it was not their issue it was a booking.com issue... And I felt the conditions were very rustic. Our first room had a laminate floor that looked very rustic and in the corner of the room there was a "terrarium" style area with a huge spider nest (and more). The second room had a whole between the room and bathroom, above my son's bed, that let sun in. The room had 5+ wasp my husband had to kill, the bathroom sink leaked, mold under the sink, missing a door to shower, and the windows (that had to be open) opened to parking lot where others could look straight into. Asked to be moved again and was told there was no other rooms - even though I checked the booking.com and found the same room for $50 less and 29 rooms open??? Much more rustic than advertised. I would of chose not to stay and found something else... I do have photos if booking.com wants them....
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location and view!
Cons: The food wasnt great.

Cons: Harder beds were needed.

Pros: The visit from the monkeys and the view out over the vally
Cons: The rooms were not sound proof could hear next door talking
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were really helpful and very friendly, the room was immaculately clean and the breakfast was very good. Plus the viewing platform gave a spectacular view of the gorge. Finally Capuchin came to breakfast accompanied by Coati’s (cousins to Raccoons)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location with nice view behind. The owner is very nice and helpful. Only ~10 minutes away from Monteverde Cloud Park.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Extremely helpful the older lady at the reception as well as all the staff! Breakfast is home made and very good! The room is very clean and they really try to make it bug-free even though we are technically in the nature.
Cons: A bit of a walk to downtown but I think it's fine and usually a very pleasant walk. We did see spider coming into our room but staff are helpful in taking them out...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed everything about our stay. There were monkeys in the trees by the kitchen. Breakfast was great, friendly staff who doted on our children, strong wifi, clean rooms, no bugs, great view. Highly recommended.
Cons: The hotel is right on the main road through town (but so are most of the other hotels too!) and the traffic is loud. If you require absolute silence to sleep, book a hotel that is not in town and stay somewhere out in the hills.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The magnificent view from the bed
Cons: The limited ability of the land lady
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. The room was really nice with a view on the vegetation and the mountains. Comfortable bed. Breakfast was good and generous. The style of the interior was unique.
Cons: Maybe the access to the city: not very far by foot but not a pleasant walk on the side of the road, but it's quite common for some of the hotels in this area. Rooms are not completely sound-proof.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing. This place has no customer service and no Integrity whatsoever.
Cons: 5 times in CR and this was our only disappointment! The woman at the front desk didnt speak any English but she told us that she worked in the hotel industry in USA for 20+ years in Mississippi or something like that. And she didn't pick up any English? What a con!! When I emailed before our arrival, a gentleman said no AC but when we checked in we asked again. The woman said yes they have air!! So I was very excited. We go to the room and I asked her where the air conditioning is. She points to the ceiling fan. Again. Don't tell me she doesn't know the words "air conditioning" especially working at a hotel in the south!! It was VERY hot in the room. We called the manager on the phone and told her that we cannot check in and stay there b/c of heat. She said just to stay for one night and try it. I told her no because I have fibromyalgia. I explained that I need a good sleep or my pain is Amplified. She proceeded to tell me about my syndrome. Quite incorrectly I might add. She said that fibromyalgia is arthritis and it doesn't have anything at all to do with your quality of sleep. I tried educating her and we just kept arguing. I told her we would try it for one night. The lady told us to open the windows. The windows were maybe about 1/10th of the entire window but we opened them and went out to eat. We came back and the room was full of insects! All kinds! And there was some type of reptile poop on the bathroom floor now. Definitely could have been a snake. I Googled it. Also, could not sit on toilet properly bc it was pushed up to shower door and all the rooms are like 10ft from the main road!! LOUD! We called and spoke to a very rude man. He said he would not give our money back and challenged me to go and leave him a bad review - that he didn't care! I do not believe he is a native costa rican b/c they are not like this. We left after the one night and never got our $$ back for the other 2.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As a wheelchair user, The rooms are almost entirely accessible. This was great. The only minor obstacles were the ramp leading into the room which was a little bit steep yet easily manageable. There is one step leading into the reception and breakfast area which is also quite manageable. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. He arranged a private tour of his farm. Because it was really windy and cold when we were there, they arranged heaters for the room. Anything and everything we wanted was promptly supplied. A real home like atmosphere. I would highly recommend staying here
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to downtown was great and to other attractions. Owner involvement, feels like home. Cleanliness. Amazing view and saw coati and monkeys by the window!
Cons: The room by the kitchen is loud in the morning, starting at 5 am...choose the other rooms that are apart from the main building; those I have stayed in and are great.

6.0 Good
Pros: The staff was very courteous and helpful. They had a breakfast included that was excellent with a nice variety of different things each day. Breakfast could be had indoors or out on a patio with a nice view.
Cons: The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, and amounted to a mattress on a frame that had no box spring. There were no comfortable chairs or a patio one could sit out on, unless you went over the the main building. Our room was in the building next to the main building and it looked it had been hastily sided with with aluminum siding and a tin roof. Although there is a view, the windows can not be opened making the place a greenhouse without any vents; there wasn't even a bathroom exhaust and it was obvious the place was not insulated. So with no air conditioning, and unable to even open a window, and only a single floor stand fan the place was unbearable in the daytime. Before returning from our days activities we had to open the door and position the fan to blow in as much cool air as we could. With some improvements on the issues I've mentioned it could be a nice place. The room itself was low on the scale of what I'd call "the basics."
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The girl who makes lunch & dinner in the Soda thereis incredible! Best food we have had in Costa Rica & so sweet. Also the girl who checked us in & helped book our tours was amazing! Such a great place to stay & so close to everything! The food, people & location are perfect! We will for sure come back ❤️

Pros: I would highly recommend vistas al golfo for anyone staying in monteverde. The staff were incredibly helpful in helping us plan which tours we wanted to take and in figuring out how to get to the next stop on our trip! Breakfast was delicious and conveniently included every morning, and the bathrooms were clean. Amazing service and location right next to town for an even better price.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great staff helped us book activities with discounts, short walk to town, nice hanging out spaces, coffee and tea 24/7, good kitchen
Cons: Pillows not the best, breakfast doesn't allow for you to make park opening, very noisy at night from the strong winds (but not much they can do about it)
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The pillow where too firm
6.3 Good
Pros: The view
Cons: The breakfast was limited and the bed sheets smelt a little bad
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing welcome and friendly helpful staff. Large comfortable room, close to supermarket and restaurants. Great communal spaces and breakfast
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very nice and they do everything for you. There is a good breakfast included and you can always take some coffee or tea during the day. There are a lot of trips offered in the hostel which you can book for a good price.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Our arrival wasn’t pleasing at all. The woman at the desk didn’t even seem do be interested in saying good morning. She kept talking about tourism stuff with the people that arrived earlier for like half an hour & we just stood there stupidly with our huge backpacks on. Then, when it was finally our turn she just answered our questions with the most basic stuff and wasn’t able to handle our concerns. The hostel itself is quiet ugly, with horrible and tasteless decoration. For young open minded backpackers not recommended. If u are searching for a nice & chilled place just go and stay in “casa tranquila”

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with amazing views. Night hike on property was incredible.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful! The view is amazing especially from the upper buildings where you can see all the way over the mountains to the the gulf and to guanacoste in the distance. The rooms were very nice and very comfortable beds and very clean. They have their own hiking trails at the top and it was wonderful to hike at our leisure through the cloud forest. They have their own zip line but we did not try it, but it seemed a nice quiet option compared to others. We saw lots of wildlife right there at the lobby and the dinner at the restraint was amazing! We talked about it the rest of our trip! And service in the restaraunt combined with the atmosphere definitely makes it a fine dining experience. The hotel is also a nice distance from town. The amenities are very nice. We would consider staying here again.
Cons: The only negatives to this hotel were actually minor ones that would have just made it a more perfect experience overall. The fact that it is in such a large area they use shuttles to take you from one location to another. It is extremely steep and long to walk/hike especially to upper buildings with the beautiful view, so the shuttle is almost mandatory unless you are in excellent shape. They are more than happy to shuttle and most times are timely except there were a couple of times that we needed to wait up to 15 minutes for the shuttle. Otherwise the shuttle service was very good. The breakfast buffet was very nice but the view from the big beautiful window is the staff parking lot and bushes. It was a shame it didn't have a view, but I suppose you can't always have the exceptional view. The family pool/workout area was very nice and under an open canopy. The pool was a somewhat comfortable temperature but it was very cold with the night mountain air blowing in and there was no hot tub which could have made it a nicer experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved that it was outside the chaos of town, but not far. Quiet and peaceful, great views, and my 17 y.o. daughter loved the hammock chairs in our room.
Cons: I was surprised there was no temperature control in the rooms. The temp was fine but I like a cool room to sleep. I couldn’t open our slider for the cool night air because I was in the ground floor, and no screens would have invited animals into my room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right on top of the mountains with an excellent view! The staff and welcoming was amazing and the shuttle was convenient and helpful. The grounds and wildlife were immensely spectacular and the breakfast at Las Riendas was delicious!
Cons: The rooms got dark at night because the hallway had no lights, but other than that, amazing stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a very nice facility with activities for the family. It caters to foreign tourists.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Astounding scenery and many choices of activity on the property and close by.
Cons: TV automatically turned on 3 times on first night after power outages. Found the plug in point and disconnected for second night.

Cons: Problem with handicap parking from check in. Could not get to room for more than half hour due to tour bus blocking lot. Reception said they checked in before you. Nearly every time we tried to come or go a bus was in the way.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and service was very good. Room was generous in size and comfortable. Campus is EXCELLENT. Lots of nice hikes within the hotel! Walking distance to town and other restaurants.
Cons: Lack of properly functioning internet was a SIGNIFICANT problem. Lack of accessible electrical outlets. When I asked for an electrical extension cord I received an "unsafe" cord.

6.8 Good
Pros: Size of room and cleanliness.
Cons: My Room entry / corridor area was not lit at night, I had to use my iPhone flash light to see the room Number, to confirm I was at the right door. Water in shower and washbasin was barely lukewarm, not hot.

Pros: Nice hotel, very helpful staff, perfect English and willingly arranged canopy trip, pick up in front of the hotel. Room spacious and clean with a nice garden view. Delicious traditional Costa Rican breakfast buffet.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good breakfast.
Cons: Very noisy. They started to cut the grass at 6am in the morning.
5.0 Okay
Cons: The soap dispenser in the bathroom was not working properly.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff and host were super friendly and helpful. They accomodate us in a better and cheaper room for the family. Pura vida!
Cons: Sometimes the shower was not very hot, but still very good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: All the staff members knew my name and were genuinely interested in whether I enjoyed my tours. The breakfast was great and the garden has a lovely seating area. A really friendly family run hotel.
Cons: It was quite noisy at night with the wind and dogs, but this would be the same in any hotel in the town.
6.8 Good
Pros: The hotel itself is beautiful, the landscaping is breathtaking and it's really quite wonderful.
Cons: The walls are EXTREMELY thin. You can hear someone sneeze. No exaggeration. I'd bring ear plugs or try and make sure no ones next to you.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds and the hotel management and staff were wonderful and very accommodating.
Cons: ON a steep and bad road (even for walking) - parking was a bit confusing. Some drag racing of motor biles at night - very loud.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was good in the hotel, the breakfast is excellent, and the hotel staff can help you if you want to book tours.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Ease of parking. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Proximity to Santa Elena (5-10min walk).
Cons: Towels didn't smell great. Hot water in the shower was sporadic. Having a mini fridge would be nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I came to Monteverde just for the ziplining and hanging bridges at Selvatura Park. This hotel was in a great location to go there by rented car. The hotel includes a great typical breakfast every morning. The rooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. Not many luxuries, but it's a great place to sleep and shower.
Cons: If you use google maps for directions to this hotel, the last street it has you turn on before reaching the hotel is very steep with dirt and loose gravel. It was pouring rain when we arrived so my two wheel drive SUV had trouble making it up. Would have been no trouble with a 4x4 vehicle, but even then I would go around and use one of the other streets to get to the hotel.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were more than super, very helpful and helped a lot to find the best guides during our visit in Monteverde!
Cons: There were strong wind outside which we could feel inside the room.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so friendly and even though my Spanish is awful they were patient and helpful. The man at the front desk had perfect English and was very knowledgeable about tours and the area. The kitchen was big and there’s a lovely outside patio. Rooms were very clean.
Cons: The oven wasn’t working was the only bad thing I found but lots of burners so it wasn’t that big a deal.
6.8 Good
Pros: It had a beautiful view from both hang out spots (the kitchen and the deck). The breakfast was awesome, the shower had good water pressure and the price was decently cheap. Oh, and the staff was beyond friendly and helpful even threw my shoes in the dryer because they just couldn’t dry in the humidity - thank you for that!!!
Cons: We rented the 4 person private room but it smelt horrible like mold and cleaning supplies. And unfortunately we couldn’t leave the window open because it didn’t have a screen. My sheets had old blood stains on them, and the bed was super uncomfortable. Perhaps if we were in a different room I would have been much happier :-)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff members were always very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The shower didn't have hot water.
