7.9 Good
Pros: Wonderful location and helpful staff.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast at the Nikko Nara is always excellent. They have a very good selection of the local cuisine as well as other Japanese food together with Western style cooked and continental breakfasts. We are always welcomed by the staff who are very courteous and helpfull.
Cons: The Nikko Nara has always met or exceeded our expectations, so no areas we were unhappy with.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was at the station, which makes it very convenient.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The hotel was very quite and the peoples very kind. Early checking accepted at 1:30
Cons: For the room, I paid for a standard room and as a "loyal" member, I wanted to give a "free upgrade" coupon. Unfortunately, I did not understood why, but it was not possible, even if the lady I saw the day before for the booking assure me it would be possible. The hotel was very empty, then, 19400 JPY for this noght was realy expensive? Also, the carpet in the room was not clean with many dust and pieces of papers. Also, free newspaper was announce, but we did not btained it
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very Good Value
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is classy, clean, and spacious. I might even call it swanky compared to other hotels we stayed in. A lot of room, even with the extra 3rd bed, a couch, TV, large closet and nicely setup bathroom with separate doors to both the toilet and showers, and beds were very comfortable. But you choose this hotel for the location. So convenient to stay right at the train station in Nara, there is a full grocery store in the station and restaurants all around the neighborhood. We would definitely recommend for those who are looking to stay 1 night in Nara.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: Room was extremely noisy all night ( extractor and next door vending machine and ice machine also very noisy. If you get offered room 1044 just say no!!!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room, friendly staff, tasty breakfast, reasonabld price.
Cons: Too short period I stayed there.

Pros: Great location. Friendly staff. Very clean.
Cons: Bed needs to be longer for tall people.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice onsen, choice of pillows, friendly staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: PERFECT HOTEL!
Cons: nothing to tell
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The desk staff were extremely friendly, the hotel had little extra things like a free gift for returning the disposable toothbrush unused (trying to be more environmentally friendly), and a selection of different types of pillows. The hotel was right next to the station (don't cross the road, there are 2 Super Hotels by Nara station, and we picked the wrong one first time!), and within a reasonable distance of Nara park.
Cons: Given the hotel is all about providing a more environmentally friendly stay, there were extra things they could have been doing, but it was still much better than many hotels in Japan.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Located at the exit of Nara JR station. Super convenient. The hotel has onsen and it is free for usage.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel new and clean. Superb location. The roomspace was ok. The staff is very helpful.

A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
7.7 Good
Pros: A little outadated but overall good! Comfy bed and clean room!
Cons: It was a bit far from Nara park. I was not allowed to use the spa because I have tattoos, which is common in Japan. It would be good if it was listed as an onsen online instead of as a spa so that it is more clear to travelers that may also have toattoos and cannot participate
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Modern, new and clean room, view on a cute Japanese garden (3rd floor), beer dispenser (!) on the floor. Great onsen (apparently nicer at women‘s side). Super breakfast. Incredible value for money.
Cons: Not very close to sights, but 10min/1000 yen by cab. 820 yen for a coffee...

Pros: Nothing to add to the positive ratings, fully confirm - what I really found impressive was the lady in the breakfast room talking me in to Japanese breakfast, explaining every dish in very good English. Cons: 1. Pillows too flat 2. Unable to check-in even at 2.30pm when reached the hotel. 3. Room a bit small for family
8.0 Excellent
Pros: 3 minute walk to Nara Station.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel location very close to the station. Room area is bigger than most hotel rooms in Japan. Modern and complete bathroom. Nice breakfast.
Cons: Hotel does not provide smoking area
7.0 Good
Pros: The location, close to the JR Nara station on the Osaka-Kyoto line, was very convenient for us. This station is a bit farther from the main tourist attractions than the other railway station, but it really wasn't that far - about 20 minutes' walk. The room was small (typical for Japan) but it was very clean and comfortable. We thought the breakfast was very good value. I would certainly stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is delicate, sufficient and international. The surrounding is near to JR station and the main shopping district.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location near to station and most sights to see are in walking range. Breakfasts are excellent too
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Its value of money and location. The location is very near JR Nara station make it easy to going around by train and bus. The price including breakfast is also much less expensive than other alternative with the same facilities but no breakfast. And the most is they still accept 12 years old child for free.
Cons: Well, if you stay for only two or three nights the breakfast are okay, however when you stays for more than five nights it become very repetitive. We eat them anyway as the taste are okay and its free compare to buying breakfast outside.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location and a decent breakfast.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I was able to borrow a bike for free

6.5 Good
Pros: Nice spacious well-equipped room. Massage chair, jacuzzi bathtub. Clean. Helpful staff but no English. Great value for the money as far as the room itself, but the location is terrible.
Cons: In the middle of nowhere. 2000 ($20) taxi to the center of town. Ten minutes just to walk to the closest business/convenient store. Only stay here if you have a car.
7.9 Good
Pros: This hotel is a so called love hotel but it’s not dodgy at all. It was perfectly fine for one night and we enjoyed the jacuzzi, the massage chair and the huge bed. The room was very spacious.
Cons: The place is hard to reach from the city. We took a taxi to get there which was about ¥2600 and on the way back we used a bus which stopped right by the station. Use Apple Maps to find the bus stop. The staff doesn’t speak English and won’t be able to help you with directions. Google Maps doesn’t even know the bus stop but Apple Maps does and it knows the times as well.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff are friendly, rooms are large. Good hotel just a poor location.
Cons: The hotel is very far away from everything and not easily accessible for meal options. The options in the hotel are not enough to make you want to stay in.
7.9 Good
Pros: The bed and pillow was very comfortable. The room was very spacious. The reception staff were lovely and really helpful (they ordered our taxi’s).
Cons: One of the rooms smelled of cigarettes. There was dust on the shelf at the back of the bed and the lampshade. The location is awkward to get to - the walking route of 1.2 miles could be better described please.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious room
Cons: Did not collect breakfast trays daily
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Spa bath
Cons: The bed was hard and the room smelt
7.5 Good
Pros: It’s unbelievablely cheap to stay if you need a parking for your car. You can stay until 12:00 midday including the breakfast brought to your room!
Cons: The outside hotel, entrance looks very nice with lovely lights but very aged, tired looking inside. No non-smoking rooms so that smells pretty awful as soon as you walk into the room. Although the staff were very helpful and brought the room air freshener but didn’t help at all... And it’s very difficult to find the way to get there by car even with sat. nav.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Our stay was good (thanks to the jacuzzi bath), but we had a lot of problems. Firstly, the room was old and it has a lot of dust. It seems it didn’t use for long. In fact, there was HALLOWEEN DECORATION in JANUARY! Secondly, there was a problem between tv and the projector. For example, we didn’t see the hdmi in the projector. Thirdly, there weren’t any kind of entertainment as their website states. We had to ask for wii u, and there were a lot of troubles. Finally, we obtained the console but our sensation is that they didn’t trust us… And the worst thing: we stayed two days and we bought intimal tights and, next morning, the dependent shouted us, when we tried to exit, asking to pay it, SHOWING US the box of this intimal tights and requesting us to pay there in that moment… We live in Japan and this attitude was very strange and, of course, IMPOLITE! So, we don’t recommend this place. Please, look for another Love Hotel with better service.

This hotel features 1507 square feet (140 square meters) of event facilities. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very centrally located, clean, comfortable, quiet and large room by Japanese standards! We enjoyed our stay as it served our needs. Weren’t looking for luxury hotel experience, just somewhere last minute and reasonable as a base to explore Nara for a couple of days.
Cons: It’s very old fashioned and a little dated in terms of decor etc. But towels and sheets were spotless so couldn’t fault that. We don’t have breakfast as there are loads of good cafes in a Naramachi nearby (try Mia’s Bread or one of the French bakeries) but the restaurant looked a little formal for the standard of hotel, and there was a service charge to drink in the bar - even for guests, which obviously sucks and loses them loads of business but whatever - Nara has some nice places to spend the evening so just use this place to sleep.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff service. Short walk to Kintetsu Nara Station. Many restaurants near Kintetsu Nara station area. You can walk to Koryuji, Nara Meusium, Todaiji and Kasuga Taisha.
Cons: Slightly older style business hotel.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great places!
Cons: Next to tomb...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: 2 nice big mirrors in the room.
Cons: Room was small for 3 people and trash cans were very small.

7.0 Good
Pros: Really friendly and helpful staff. They gave good recommendations on places to visit during my stay. Everything was very clean and well maintained.
Cons: If other guests are noisy, it can definitely be heard. There was no view from my room, while the pictures on booking.com showed otherwise, so that was a little disappointing. There is a 25 minute walk to the city, if you want to eat out after 5pm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was insane! The staff were very friendly and helpful ... the view of the park side room was beautiful (and the deer Everywhere :D )
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!!! We loved nature and being in the middle of Nara Park with the deer.
Cons: Nara is an amazing place. The Deer Park Inn is amazing and I will stay there again when I come again. I would highly recommend this Inn for its staff, definitely location. We were around deer and such beautiful landscaping, as well as beautiful Sakaru trees and other huge trees. I loved everything about our stay in Nara. I highly recommend the Deer Park Inn to everyone! The bedding was so comfortable too.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Hostel is in the Nara Park area, close to many temples. The host gives you a map of the area and suggest where to go and what to see, that is helpful. You get your own locker in the room and towel, included i price.
Cons: It was too cold in the common area. But it seems to be normal in Japan.
5.0 Okay
Pros: First its a Hostel and location wise very good. The surrounding is excellent. Stay was kinda adventure. Surely I will try again.
Cons: Its simply room and shared shower and many things were lacking but price wise fair. If ur accustomed with 3 stars all inc type, you will be surprised.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous
Cons: Very cold in common area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is lovely, right inside the Nara park and next to some hills. The place is really clean, and the racks (i stayed in a shared room of 4) are spacious and confortable. The bathrooms are very clean as well, not cramped. I highly recommend the plce to anyone.
Cons: One thing I liked about it is that is away from the ceter area and right inside the park, as a result it is quite. Walk from the JR nara station, although a bit closer to the other station in Nara. I did not mind the walk there, but I was carrying a light backpack, so I throughly enjoyed my walk there, but for people carring big and heavy suitcases u might need a cab. Everything in the area closes around 5, so if u want food at night, u need to go to the center to find some. Other than that, if u like green and waking up and seeing first wild deer in the morning, this is the place for u.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent because it is right in the park where you can see temples, museums and deer. It is fairly easy to get to the park by bus, then walk to the inn. The hostel is very clean and the beds were comfortable.
Cons: You get a discount coupon for the cafe just up the stairs to get breakfast. The cafe opens a little later than I would haved liked, but it was nice. Mostly soup and sandwiches. Nice cafe.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was amazing. Great facilities and located at the middle of the park with the deers
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the marvelous location.
Cons: Parts of the facility were a bit cold.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. The onsen was relaxing and tattoo friendly. They even arranged a free guide for me to tour Nara, and gave me cookies to feed the sacred deer.
Cons: I wish I stayed longer :)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: amazing breakfast! hot springs were great, staff was really helpful.
Cons: they don't seperate smoking and non-smoking rooms so our room always had a cigarette smell in it which was pretty upsetting for the price of this hotel. if you're fine with that, I can recommend this place!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good location for the Todaii-ji temple and deer park. Lovely onsen within the hotel.
Cons: We were given one futon each to sleep on and it was so hard we could barely sleep. In the morning we found several more in the cupboard and asked for more for ourselves. All good after that, but I don’t understand why they didn’t ask us how soft we would like our beds as they were making them up for us when we arrived.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely convenient and knowledgeable staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about our stay in Hotel New Wakasa, every little detail was considered. We chose this place as a relaxing stay in between travelling Kyoto and Osaka, and to experience a more traditional Japanese accomodation and we loved it. The food for both dinner and breakfast was exceptional. I loved using the public bath while my partner loved having a private bath on our balcony. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful during this stay and also organised a free tour in English. The room was spacious - the biggest one we stayed in during our entire trip!
Cons: I liked everything about this stay and wouldn't change one thing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everybody was very kind and accomodating, breakfast was amazing! So far our best accomodation in Japan.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb staff, so gracious and helpful. Meals were amazing, as were the onsens.
Cons: I didn't like that my stay was too short!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a traditional Ryokan with 2 public baths, both of them are on the top floor which one is indoor and one is outdoor. I travel with one friend and we booked a family tatami room. The room is really spacious, other than the sleeping area, there is a sofa seating area and another tatami seating area. Location is good for us as we are the type of traveler that loves walking around, and it is quiet nearby that we had a very good sleep after the bath. It is located right opposite to the tourist centre which you can find useful information there. It takes around 20 mins to walk from Nara JR station, but it is very close to the shopping street which you could find many interesting local shops (around 5-10 mins walk). To go to the Nara Park area, it takes around 15-20 mins (we start from going to the Nara National Museum). The breakfast and dinner were also good, we had the dinner inside our room for the first night, dinner was nice and delicious. Their staff are also helpful, I asked them to call to book a workshop experience and they did their best to explain and help. If I have a chance to travel to Nara again, I will definitely choose Asukasou again :) Totally recommended!
Cons: I never stay in tradition Ryokan before, the first impression for me is that it feels a bit old. But it totally doesn't matter at all after a while coz the place is really clean and tidy.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location. Friendly staff. Great Japanese dinner and breakfast included in price. Room was really comfortable. Outdoor bath with nicest views.
Cons: Lobby and hallways could use a renovation.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: pretty much everything!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very warm and friendly, breakfast was very traditional and exceptionally carefully prepared. The staff went out of their way to ensure we made it to our train on time the following morning. The outdoor onsen was absolutely wonderful.

Pros: Personalized service Attention to details Great food Great service
Cons: The slope that goes up is pretty stiff

Pros: It's just a perfect ryokan with great onsen and exellent food. Second time here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As written in the title: breakfast was sooo good!! So many things that seemed more a lunch, but it was definitely worthy! Also the staff was very kind and spoke a quite good English. They welcomed us with matcha tea and sweets. The room was very very nice and the view from the window was very suggestive: Nara and the temples were under us! The onsen was little but nice.
7.0 Good
Pros: food was good. rooms clean. beautiful view. friendly staff
Cons: no hiking tracks, a bit secluded
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was very good, lovely view and very comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We decided to experience the ryokan for first time on your Japan trip and it was great. We booked a dinner and breakfast option included and it was delicious (and quite big). Some staff speaks English, at least at the reception so you will get some instructions. You have to book a shuttle with a hotel to get there as it's located on the mountain (nice views from the roof) and you get a shuttle back to the station in the morning. You will got a welcoming tea with a traditional sweets, you can wear ukata during the dinner (choose a dinner time in advance), go to the onsen (maybe it is more spa then a real hot spring, but still cool). During our stay there were a few people, so I enojed the onsen alone for some time. But you can't book a private onsen, it is separate for men and women. But we had a private shower and toilet in the room. Room was huge with a nice view as well. Ryokan is an experience itself.
Cons: Everything was great for our first time, but it would be better if staff could explain more then few words about kaiseki meal or tradiitional breakfast. Hotel itself is not new, but quite good.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Heijo is a good experience for a ryokan. Facilites are decent , our Japanese style private room was really large and nice. We were offered a nice welcome tea and snacks. The sitting area has heated stone foot rests for your feet and the view from our room was really nice. Full length glass windows with beautiful view overlooking Nara town and parts of an orchard.
Cons: Location of Heijo is rather far off from anything else, so you really do not stay there for visiting Nara town, just for the ryokan. Both Dinner and Breakfast were served at a cafeteria room, so no in-room dining which rather detracts from the experience.

Pros: All the major tourist attraction is nearby the guesthouse.
Cons: The rooms are very compact.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Kumanabi is really charming and in a beautiful neighborhood on a quiet street. We felt really cosy and at home there. We loved the bar/cafe and did the sake tasting which is only 1000 Yen and it comes with three delicious snacks! The breakfast is also delicious and creative and only 6000 yen. You can also use a guest kitchen. The staff was really friendly and gave us some suggestions for dinner.
Cons: You can't really complain in an old Japanese house (the walls are made of paper - literally) but be prepared that you will hear other guests and the lights in the hall might wake you up. They provide earplugs and bringing a sleeping mask is a good idea too.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: - you feel like you’re in the Grand Budapest Hotel / have travelled back in time etc - rooms are big and very comfortable with a host of robes/slippers/cosmetics - the breakfast is insanely good - staff will do anything to make your stay pleasant
Cons: - no communal bath or gym: I would expect this of such an astute 5 star venue - In the off season (February for our trip) it is really quiet which makes the bar and restaurant a little dull: but that’s not their fault, just something to be aware of - it’s old school. The rooms haven’t changed since the 80s - possibly longer. For us this was the charm but some might like their hotels more refined.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: We arrived at 2 PM but we were not allowed to check in because rooms are available since 3 PM. However when we came back at 3 PM there were many people and we had to wait for a while. If possible it should be allowed to check in early, even if actual access of the room can happen only later. Our stay was otherwise really exceptional.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, super close to the park, a small pond and main routes. The two restaurants are nice and the quality of the food medium-high (according to JP standards) Rooms in the new wing were new in 1990, but well maintained and comfortable overall
Cons: Room service only in the afternoon (no breakfast) Not exactly a kids friendly structure.. but that goes with the Japanese "silence and order" mindset
8.0 Excellent
Pros: All was good except the too high charge for the extra days
Cons: Considering I stayed for six days I would have expected more consideration regarding the price for the extra day whatever day of the week it was

Pros: Nice location, friendly staff, great little café/noodlebar just across the street
Cons: Beds not very comfortable, carpet on the floors, a bit too expensive
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and ambience if the property. Staff were very polite and helpful
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good value for economy-minded families. Staff were very kind and helpful.
Cons: Location a little bit away from the main attractions of Nara. Designed for Japanese-speakers. Many things were not translated into English (or any other language). But we could figure things out, thanks to English skills of friendly staff.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Not much, run down, but good size room. On circular bus route.
Cons: Long way from restaurants. Very Japanese breakfast, nothing at all western available, no eggs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel had a relaxing and calm atmosphere and was located right next to Nara Park, making it very easy to walk over and enjoy the park all day. The bed was also very comfortable. Polite and friendly staff. Communicating is pretty easy if you know basic useful phrases in Japanese, however English speaking staff may be available. There is a room on the top that has nice views.
Cons: This is my personal preference but I dislike bathrooms that have the toilet and bathtub together. It was a bit small. However, the bathtub is great and the shampoo/soap is very nice.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location of hotel is right by bus stop. I thought it was closer to the park but when you realise the size of the park it is a fair walk to explore on foot. the bus works fine though.
Cons: Nice clean room but very stark (with woodchip papered walls painted white some time ago) no ambience or comfort Staff very friendly and helpful but not strong in English Breakfast is Japanese style, cant even get a slice of bread I booked through Booking.com and when we were there we found several 5 star hotels, with vacancies that I could have got for the same price. By comparison this hotel is very mediocre. I was very disappointed that the web site threw this hotel up and a load of 2 star Ryoken's with shared facilities when there were lots of much better hotels available that we would have felt were better value for money. I will be more wary when using Booking.com in future
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nothing special.
Cons: No western breakfast at all, all Japanese ingredients.
