My first few visits were focused on the United States Navy sites in the area, like the NAS and National Aviation Museum. Whether touring the historic forts or watching the Blue Angels glide across the sky, I can see why so many of the top-rated hotels in Pensacola highlight the fact that their rooms offer views of the seasonal flight demonstrations. The white sands and emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico beaches are pristine, but there’s so much more to this city than its shoreline. The best hotels in Pensacola are stationed along the coast and in the city, offering visitors a chance to experience its artsy neighbourhoods, tree-lined hiking trails and unique museums. Here’s my pick of the best hotels to stay in Pensacola.

Whether kayaking in Little Sabine Bay or casting a line off of the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier, this Holiday Inn Express is one of the best hotels in Pensacola Beach.

One of the highlights is that each room has a private balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. There’s nothing better than a Gulf sunset in Florida, and these balconies provide the ideal spot to take one in (preferably with a drink in hand).

The hotel’s pool faces the beach as well, which means it’s nearly impossible to stay at this property and not gaze at the shoreline. Even the fitness centre has water views. After waking up to a free breakfast, walking the trails of nearby Fort Pickens is a great alternative way to spend a day on the beach while learning about Pensacola’s history.

This is one of the best hotels in Pensacola for anyone interested in military history. From the Extended Stay Premier Suites, the NAS Pensacola Visitor Center, National Naval Aviation Museum and Historic Fort Barrancas are just across the Bayou Grande.

This Extended Stay accommodates military families just as easily as it does vacationers. Pet-friendly rooms have kitchens with stoves, microwaves and refrigerators for at-home cooking convenience. Small but significant amenities like the free breakfast, workspaces and on-site laundry machines make it even easier to stay for weeks at a time.

Pensacola Naval Complex Beach and Mustin Beach are also close by, offering easy trips to shorelines that aren’t as crowded as Pensacola’s main beach.

As one of the best boutique hotels in Pensacola, the Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel delivers a quintessential Florida stay without having to unload your luggage down by the beach. This bay-side abode has charming suites with local art, custom furnishings and private verandas or balconies perfect for unwinding.

The weekend yoga classes, as well as other monthly events that are open to guests and the public, double-down on wellness and relaxation. Coastal décor fills each space, creating a style that’s beachy chic yet still luxurious.

I also love that Oyster Bay is located beside Seville Square, Fountain Park and Bartram Park. Being surrounded by greenery and the blue bay waters makes every day feel like a vacation, even if you’re travelling for work.

I know Pensacola not for its beach but for its attractions, which is why I think this is one of the best hotels in Pensacola for engaging in the city centre’s many cultural and historical activities. Right across the street from the Pensacola Children's Museum, Museum of Art, Museum of History and Historic Village, this Holiday Inn Express is primed for city exploration.

The contemporary guestrooms are super comfortable; there’s nothing better than stepping out of the hot Florida sun and into an air-conditioned suite. The free breakfast gets the day started off on the right foot, offering both continental and hot meal options.

I really appreciate the hotel’s pool, which is convenient for a quick midday cooldown. Other attractions like Blue Wahoos Stadium are within walking distance too, making this a perfect hotel to stay at during baseball season.

From its dazzling location on the beach to its amazing amenities and activities, The Pensacola Beach Resort is by far one of the best hotels in Pensacola. The spacious suites with fully furnished wraparound balconies overlooking Little Sabine Bay are almost too good to be true. I could spend hours gazing out at the water from them.

The hotel is also in a prime position for watching the US Navy Blue Angels complete their aerial performances. Although the hotel feels upscale and refined, I love that its dining options are laid-back.

The Salty Rose Beach Bar and Grill is a low-key spot where you can order seafood baskets as you dig your toes in the sand. The Tiki Bar is equally chill. With the option to schedule everything from dolphin viewing cruises to LED kayaking tours, The Pensacola Beach Resort offers an unforgettable stay.

This Hampton Inn’s guestrooms face the Gulf of Mexico, granting great views from every window. It’s set right alongside the Pensacola Beach Trail, which provides access to the eastern beaches of the Gulf Island National Seashore and western beaches of Fort Pickens State Park.

Having these scenic sanctuaries within walking distance makes this one of the best hotels in Pensacola for nature lovers. Many restaurants, including seafood shacks like Crabs and The Stand, are mere steps from the hotel. If possible, I recommend booking a suite to take advantage of the in-room kitchen for lunch on your Gulf-front balcony.

One of my favourite perks of staying at this property is having the UFO mini-golf course next door. Playing a round of Goofy Golf and then taking a dip in the hotel’s outdoor pool makes for a fun afternoon.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott PensacolaSpringHill Suites by Marriott PensacolaRank #7

Not to be confused with the hotel on Pensacola Beach, this SpringHill Suites is one of the best hotels in Pensacola for exploring the city. It’s an all-suite hotel, which means there’s no sacrificing space here.

Pull-out sofa beds don’t interfere with the legroom of the lounge chair, and you can watch the 114-cm (45-inch) TV on the couch while someone else sits in an ergonomic chair at the desk without obstructing the view.

SpringHill Suites has a location that lets you get acquainted with local life. Set close to the colleges and hospitals, attractions like Splash City Adventures and the Cordova Mall are nearby. Pensacola Beach is a straight shot south on I-110 highway, but on lazy days, the outdoor pool and fire pit offer similar enjoyment under the Florida sun.

I’ve travelled along Interstate 10 countless times and I think this Hampton Inn & Suites is among the best hotels in Pensacola for squeezing in a beach stop on a road trip. Whether you’re heading to New Orleans or up into Alabama, this Hampton Inn & Suites is perfectly placed right off of the highway.

Pensacola Beach is a half an hour away, and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Along with its convenient location, the hotel has comfort covered. The wet bars in the studio suites make the separate living area feel so much more relaxing. The addition of a microwave and refrigerator are helpful for late-night snacking or storing leftovers from the free hot breakfast.

Add in an outdoor pool and a fitness centre and this Hampton Inn & Suites has everything you need for a great short stopover on a Gulf Coast road trip.

This SpringHill Suites by Marriott is only steps away from the Gulf of Mexico, yet offers the temptation to stay and swim in one of its three outdoor pools. I prefer to embrace the sun and sand, though I love having the option to take the kids to the dedicated children’s pool.

One small but significant feature of the studio suites that I think is brilliant is the half-wall with a slatted window. It creates a more defined area between the sleeping and working spaces without completely obscuring the view of the balcony.

These room layouts make SpringHill Suites by Marriott one of the best hotels in Pensacola for remote workers who need a light and airy workspace. And when work is over for the day, Sunrays poolside bar is the perfect place to unwind.

Don’t let the Gulf Breeze address of this Holiday Inn Express & Suites make you think it’s set away from the City of Five Flags. Gulf Breeze sits in between Pensacola Beach and Pensacola city centre, making it a convenient option for visitors.

This is one of the best hotels in Pensacola for soaking in views of the gorgeous coves from the nearby Naval Line Oaks Nature Preserve. I love the outdoor pool area at this Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Even in the colder months, the barbecue grills and fire pit make this an inviting place to relax.

This is a newer hotel in Gulf Breeze, which you can tell from how sparkling and polished the suites and guestrooms look. The chief difference between the two room types is the sofa bed, which is a great amenity when travelling with kids.
