Very interesting and memorable...but...
The Gallery Inn makes a wonderful impression when you first arrive because there is so much old world charm and so much artwork and interesting items in the very cool space. The location in Old San Juan is also ecxellent.
The customer service really falls flat. It was hit and miss with the staff. A couple of the staff were kind and somewhat hospitable, but there were several who weren't. The amenities were also lacking. If you are hoping for comfortable spaces to relax and read a book, you're really going to be disappointed. The breakfast consists of dry cornflakes, doll-size cups for coffee, and sliced bread, and store-bought lemon loaf. We heard a rumor that you could request eggs, but no one on staff mentioned this to us, and the guy in the "kitchen" certainly didn't give you the feeling that he would be happy to make anything...maybe it was his lack of eye contact or his back always turned to guests. We were happy to have stayed there once, but we wouldn't stay there again.
Excellent location, great friendly staff, wonderful artwork throughout the Inn. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable.
Had to ask 3 times to have toilet paper brought to the room, as the maid never replenished the little bit that we had left.
The hotel was in an old restored villa. It was amazing. The service was great, the location in Old San Juan was close to all the sights, and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Great service, excellent atmosphere in a beautiful surrounding, very nice personal contact with the owner during owner's reception.
Nothing.
Amazing history and decor of the building, ideal location.
hot water was a little tricky (but it's historical building); loud neighborhood music on Friday nights (I brought earplugs).
An amazing property with incredible atmosphere
A total 'rip off' with an almost non-existent breakfast, in fact the worst I have ever experienced anywhere!
The Gallery Inn was great, location, service, but when we booked in the bathroom was across the hall and I was not informed until we actually got to the room. For $306 a night the bathroom should have been adjacent to the room.
The bathroom was across the hall. For the price of the room this should have been pointed out to me before we were let into the room. Because you haul your suitcases up and down stairs. But for just one night I let it go.
The Gallery Inn is wonderfully unique. The woman who greeted us and gave us a short tour was warm and pleasant. I would recommned this hotel to certain friends who enjoy unique accommodations.
Our room had an excessively strong smell of mothballs. The owner's presence was somewhat disconcerting. I almost felt I was intruding rather than it being "our home away from home".
The hotel was very interseting. Many small courts with great views. Hotel rooms were decorated with antique style furnishing. Hotel owner's art work (good) on display throughout. Great location.
The beds were only full size vs queen or king. The A/C was kind of loud.
Small room, with too many things inside. Price too high for his level.
