If you are only visiting the island for a short time or you only plan on staying in one spot, there's not much you need to rent a car. If, however, you plan on doing a lot of exploring then having a rental car is most certainly going to be your best option. While there are public transportation options that travel between major population centers, if you plan on doing any exploring into more rural areas of the island, this type of transportation will not be an option. You can also choose to take a taxi, but this can get quite expensive in a hurry.

For starters, drivers here will drive on the right side of the road. Every passenger in a vehicle needs to wear a seatbelt, and children ages 12 and younger cannot ride in the front seat. Speed limits will vary throughout the island but are quite low in several spots of this smaller island where there is more population.
