10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent and the staff very helpful
Cons: None
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice furnishings in room with very comfy bed Cosy hotel with nice touches, excellent food and good service from all staff
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view from the loo! And from the main room. Extremely comfortable bed, lovely places to sit in room and downstairs. Delightful staff.
Cons: I’ll have to be picky as it was lovely, but price was very high, so I will mention a couple of things that could be improved: I don’t think it should have ‘spa’ in the name as the closest it comes is to have the phone number of a masseuse who will come to your room. The restaurant was fine, but the food not quite as high standard as advertised and a bit ‘samey’ and the duck was very tough. At breakfast the second morning, the croissants ran out really early and the staff member who told me there weren’t any more was rather surly about it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed excellent, lovley touches to the room. Great food .
Cons: Could not fault our stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, great staff and food
Cons: Nothing
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: Quantity of food at dinner time was minimalist which encourages customers to go for at least two courses. Food pricing expensive......but few other eatery options in Portloe.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous hotel in charming hamlet location, right on the bay with stunning views. Staff were all great, food was extremely good, well cooked and presented and the menu was dynamic, a bonus which we weren’t expecting. Room had a lovely big bed and pleasant outside space to enjoy the views. The fresh jug of milk, complimentary fruit, treats, bottled water and hot chocolate at turn down, all very thoughtful little touches.
Cons: Room got a bit hot, even with window open, but they do provide a fan.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location ; Great breakfast ; Friendly and efficient staff
Cons: Car park spaces too narrow for most modern cars ; Evening dining at the restaurant was limited to chef's menu of the day. This was a little OTT for a summer holiday, so dined out most nights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The views of the cove were amazing. The food was wonderful!
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good

Pros: The friendly efficient service
Cons: Lack of air conditioning
5.8 Okay
Pros: We invited a guest for dinner the whole meal was not good mine was cold and our friend did not enjoy her meal we waited ages for main course which was not up to standard
Cons: Dinner not good and very expensive for what we had
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great staff; professional but laid back. Breakfast was yummy and whilst the buffet selection is quite small it is good quality and adequate. Breakfast service was a little slow and a few minor mistakes but overall the staff were charming and very warm. Hotel was great overall. Beautiful location and quality decor. Fantastic Reception Staff.
Cons: We booked the most expensive room category specifically because it said we would have a bath and a shower but it only had a shower which made us feel that we had wasted money. Dinner was very nice but not the 'seafood restaurant of the year' level we were expecting. In fact the tasting menu only had one fish dish and when we ordered lobster it was nicely prepared but very basic coming with a simple green side salad which could easily have come from a bag and plain boiled new potatoes which were a little underwhelming honestly. There was some strange music choices in the restaurant. Firstly what seemed like really inappropriate play lists in the morning for Breakfast as well as for Dinner time. We heard the pink panther theme tune twice during dinner and somehow the music wasn't collated to match the ambience you might expect for such a stunning location. The music was also pretty loud in the mornings. Our room was above the restaurant and from 7.30 AM there was loud music playing as the staff got ready for breakfast. Hip Hop alarm clock randomness! Similarly there was someone vacuuming at a similar time in the morning so not ideal for a Sunday lie in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location second to none, nothing too much for the friendly staff.
Cons: Menu a little limited.

Pros: One of the best hotels in the uk, without a doubt. Accommodation, food, location and service absolutely outstanding!
7.5 Good
Pros: The bed and the location
Cons: The noise . Also I had mentioned by email to the hotel that it was my mother’s birthday week and felt it would have been a very special gesture just to acknowledge it somehow when we arrived - a small cake or glass or something fizzy .....
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous property, fantastic views!
Cons: Beds could be slightly comfier at the Beach Club
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel was very nice and the Staff were excellent. Everything about the stay was good,
Cons: Both my wife and I are Gluten Free, allergy not a choice. I am dumbfounded that the Sausages are not Gluten Free when of course they could so easily be. Just a small point and one that I always make when I stay at Hotels. The Hotel and Staff are great.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Style, location, view, service - just perfect
Cons: The bar could be in a better place
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location slightly out of the town centre but with amazing views. The Beach Club is a great addition and perfect for catching rays and relaxing. We had great interactions with all the staff and liked the personal touch of the rooms and all the spaces. Definitely feels like you are staying at a friends posh home. Food was also delicious and non-hotel guests often come for lunch/dinner. Make sure you walk up to the local gardens if they are open (2 days a week)
Cons: we didn't realise breakfast wasn't included in our room (£25/head) but that may have been as we were in an apartment.

Cons: Could not fault the Rosevine. Spotless, comfortable, lovely staff, well equipped rooms and great location. Lovely cafe at Hidden Hut on Porthcarnick Beach
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, excellent food and local wine. We've often been for lunch and always enjoyed it. this time overnight and dinner - and every bit as good as before. Only slight gripe - safety handle for getting in/out of bath and non-slip mat for the spotlessly clean bath, please.
Cons: No safety handle for getting in/out of bath, or non slip mat. Otherwise, nigh on perfect!
5.4 Okay
Pros: Receptionist was pleasant.
Cons: “Private patio with garden view” was in truth a fenced in corner with two dirty plastiv chairs, and dead landscaping. Few amenities in a rustic bedroom in the Slate Cabin, located NEAR the rose cottage. We had to leave at 7:30 am to catch a train and the main house and reception desk were locked and unstaffed. Far from water and 20 minute walk to Portscatho. Generally a not pleasant experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great service, a friendly welcome and wonderful location.

7.1 Good
Pros: Lovely property, and grounds, great location.
Cons: Very noisy with not much sleep. Constant drilling and building noise all night outside near our window. Plus noisy staff talking outside. Very inconsiderate. Very disappointed as we were excited to stay there. Do not stay in room 4.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic staff - all very friendly, very comfortable room. Breakfast was 1st class. We had one evening meal and that was equally as good and the bar staff also need a mention as again very friendly and knowledgeable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice big bed and a lovely copper bath. Lovely toiletries. Cooked breakfast was good quality.
Cons: Nice big bed but had an extra mattress topper that wasn’t big enough for the bed!!! No where to hang towels in the bathroom, no place to put soap or shampoo in shower, a small rack would be helpful. The heated towel rail was not fit for purpose, looked very nice but too small for the large bath sheets. No plug socket near a mirror for styling hair. The one on the dressing table is too small. I had to kneel on the floor to use it when drying my hair. A socket beside the large mirror would be helpful. Food was over priced. £18 for a “Ploughman’s” platter for two to share, consisted of one mini chicken pie, three mini slices of salami, three tiny pieces of prosciutto, a tiny piece of blue and a small piece of cheddar cheese, a large bowl of olives and some lightly grilled bread. Not the sea salt focaccia as advertised, oh and a huge pile of rocket. £14 for “The Gardner” advertised as (Humous, verbena olives, pickled gherkins, sea salt focaccia, sweet potato bhaji, roasted vegetables, balsamic oil) On serving was told sorry no Humous!!! So we got extra olives. Again no focaccia just toasted bloomer. Three tiny Bhaji’s small ramekin of roasted peppers lots of pickled gherkin and a bowl of olives. Breakfast service not the best, had to wait 20 mins one morning for coffee. Don’t like having to queue up to make my own toast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We could not fault anything about our stay. Staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. Very relaxed atmosphere. Would certainly recommend the hotel
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant and so convenient for the town. Our room was clean, spacious and well appointed. Our friends also found this to be so. The room we had for our special event was delightful and just right for us all.
Cons: There was a wedding on one day and that seemed to make the service very slow the evening before and for the breakfast of the wedding itself. Our group were not part of the wedding and I feel there were not quite enough staff to go round. They did their best, but just too many people. We had our own event in another room and for that the service was excellent. It was in the main hotel that it faltered. The bed was a too small and one rolled into the middle and the pillows were hard.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property & surroundings, well located.
Cons: Hike to room. Crazy way to turn shower on.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, and the service of the staff was first class.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff in particular Emily
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and really helpful, decor was gorgeous.
Cons: Breakfast was okay, they need to provide extra plates or at least a larger plate. One tiny tea plate each was not really sufficient. Also they seemed to be short staffed this morning. Only one poor girl trying to serve breakfast to residents, serve at the bar downstairs for walk ins and check people out etc.
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful decor . Excellent position.
Cons: Not enough shelves for clothes Could do with a fridge in each room Awful UHT milk for tea in room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, excellent fit out and beautiful towels and linens
8.3 Excellent
Pros: More of high end pub type stay - hotel reception staff rarely available although the bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Comfortable, nicely decorated room but smallish and lacking in some of the details and extras you expect at this price point. Nice vibe to the lounge area/bar with good quality live music, and quite a decent casual restaurant.
Cons: Tiny TV, very ordinary quality in-room coffee capsules and toiletries, hardly any clothes storage space, no mini-bar, no safe and no provision for/assistance with parking. Cooked breakfast was very good although the buffet was a bit random.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food, the staff and the scented diffuser !
Cons: Currently covered in scaffolding!

Cons: Room was very basic
8.8 Excellent
Pros: For £40, it was well worth the money, it wasn’t the ritz, but it was clean tidy and comfortable, the bed was a little too soft for my liking, however, that’s a personal preference, not a dig at the hotel, full English breakfast was top notch, all in all I would stay again if I was ever over that way again
Cons: For the price, nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It is a short walk from the train station and an easy stroll into the town centre. Close to an excellent pub “The County Arms” and a lovely view over Truro town.

Loved the staff also, they were very kind and accommodating. The location is lovely and hearing the waves at night is a special experience.

Pros: The host Nigel is fabulous. The rooms were spotlessly clean and perfectly formed. Added bonus of a balcony via double doors, accessible from each room with table, chairs and a decent view! Nigel had left some very welcomed beers in the room fridges and chocolate bars too.....
Cons: We headed into the village for food, unfortunately all 3 food places shut on a Tuesday! Nigel kindly let us use his facilities to rustle up a microwave dinner and said that we had left before he could tell us to head in the other direction for food on Tuesday's!
7.5 Good
Pros: Nigel the host was very friendly and welcoming. Rooms were modern, clean, homely and very comfortable. I slept amazingly. Shower was amazing. Was lovely to have a balcony to sit on and watch the sunset. The breakfast was delicious. Nigel goes above and beyond and nothing is too much trouble. It didn't feel like a b&b it felt like home. I would definitely stay again.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like.

Cons: No food on site. No full English.
7.5 Good
Pros: The host were extremely nice, helpful and cannot be faulted. They act upon the fault proactively when we reported it.
Cons: The difference between budget rooms and other rooms were not cleared. So we ended up having to share bath and toilet which caught us a bit offguard. Room was not checked properly prior to arrival, had a damp and strong odour when we checked in which lingered for a few days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best B&B I ever been. We stoped for 3 nights. Terry and Emma doing fantastic job. They are very friendly and helpful. Really care of their customers. The rooms are very clean and tidy. 5.4 Okay
Pros: The situation of the hotel was very central. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: The room we were given was tiny, no decent view, and it was very noisy.
5.0 Okay
Pros: View.
Cons: Walls were filthy, shower cubicle thilthy,no water coming out shower, cobwebs all in window, very dated decor, neede a paint job, needed new shower and cubicle, dust everywhere, the room was not clean, very unhappy.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The seaview superior double was stunning and evening meals were nice
Cons: The superior sea view room was stunning but unfortunately our holiday was ruined by the noise from the Shearings guests staying at the same time. The problem must have been due to their early starts and the fact that our room was above the restaurant. Every morning we were awoken between 6am and 7am. On our departure date it was 4.51am until 6am. Reception were made aware of the problem on Wednesday and just laughed.
6.0 Good
Cons: Electrics kept tripping so couldn't even make a cup of tea, stayed one night then had to get different accommodation for next two nights.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location was good with excellent views otherwise the hotel was very disappointing and far below expectations.
Cons: We booked and paid for a " Superior twin bed room with sea views ". We had sea views but otherwise the room was not as described or anything like the photographs. The room was small with no room to sit on the chairs easily - nor room for the suitcases. The beds were very short, although comfortable. The shower was no more than a dribble and nowhere to hang wet towels - single clip on back of bathroom door was broken. Poor decoration throughout the room. Perhaps we were downgraded to a non-superior bedroom. A poor quality breakfast didn't help. A 3-star rating would be generous.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The front desk staff and bar staff at the bar were great.
Cons: Dirty. Untrained waiting staff. Stained chairs and carpets.
4.6 Okay
Pros: At Mawes is a nice place to walk around and spend an evening.
Cons: I booked a superior room and the staff gave me a standard room without mentioning. I had to ask and complain to get the refund back after talking to 3 hotel desk staff. The price for the hotel was very high compared to the quality of the bedding and interior. All the cooridors were very old and had a strange smell.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were very pleasant. Room was disappointing, limited storage room, and overall small; bathroom small no bath and and leaking shower base. Breakfast choice was quite good, but sometimes waiting for hot food to be replenished.
Cons: As above, and also overall decor a bit tired looking, ie peeling paint in bathroom and needs a bit of facelift overall. Reception area quite modern but does not reflect rest of hotel. Went for a post meal drink at 9.30 on Saturday night and it was quiet, no background music and staff member was closing bar.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Room was not cleaned adequately. Grout in shower dirty, dirt on armchair, carpet dirty. Not what you expect for £130/night. There had been a leak in the hallway (sometime before I arrived) and whilst I accept that problems occur in old buildings , the waste plasterboard was still there the next day and floor had not been vacuumed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Ship & Castle is in the best location. We stayed 3 nights, extremely clean and I would say at the top end of a 3 star facility. Made the mistake of clicking on twin room with our booking instead of double. And yes we were greeted by single beds - my bad, but they were comfy. Bathroom towels were big and fluffy - top marks for that. Views from the dining room were lovely and took in a great vista of St. Maws harbour. It is a lovely location and the hotel served us well as a base to explore Cornwall from. Would certainly recommend this seaside location to visit.
Cons: Parking advice was wanting and until you understand how it works, was very frustrating. I am not blaming Ship & Castle for this as its most likely a local issue - but more upfront explanation would have been helpful. The room was great, but I don't understand why UK Hospitality have such small showers. With more thought our room could have had a 1200 x 1200 shower installed with the recent re-fit. The place had a feeling of being run by accountants that had costs screwed to the minimum as complimentary personal toiletries barely covered 1 use for a single person. We were in room 107 (or for better orientation) on the victory lane side of the hotel overlooking the neighbouring pub. Be prepared for lots of noise until 12:00pm at which time it ceased. Fortunately we were so tired each night we fell asleep regardless.
