Actually nothing was right
First of all the room was very hot, like crazy hot and it stank. It was due to high temperature outside as well as lots of refrigerators which were placed on the staircase and produced a lot of heat. The second thing was a heat exchanger also situated on the staircase from a cold room. So imagine how hot it was! Also 4 or 5 fridges on the staircase caused a real danger and inconvenience, because it was very hard and danger to walk between them. So no, it is not a hotel, it’s not even a guest house. It is a restaurant with a few rooms placed above kitchen and staff rooms. Where the smell came from? From the restaurant of course and I don’t mean nice smell of food. No it was the kitchen and waste smell. This place should be closed.
The hotel is in the centre, it is close to almost all sites that must be visited in Basel. I liked that it was in a vibrant area and very lively atmosphere. I loved the area and it was also close to transportation services.
It is within the building of a restaurant, so that was tricky at first. Also, the reception was in the restaurant without any label that it is the reception of the hotel, this was confusing a little and the staff looked lost when they were looking for my reservation. Other than that, the stay was pleasant.
Great location, clean, and inexpensive for Basel.
Do not believe the claim that this place has wifi. The fine print at booking.com tells you they give you a card for a free public wifi network. What booking.com doesn't tell you is that you will not be able to connect to the wifi. Also, if you complain to booking.com, they will not stand behind their advertising. You pay at checkin, so be sure to expect the least from the hotel and from booking.com, because that's what you'll get. (If you need wifi, there are two Starbucks cafes within a short distance that have free wifi with a strong, stable signal.) This is not really a hotel. It is a restaurant with 10 tiny rooms 64 steps above the entrance. The 10 rooms are served by one men's toilet, one women's toilet, and one shower. If you want to stay in a tiny room and share a bathroom, this is a great place.
We loved that it was a historic hotel right downtown by restaurants, shopping, and museums.
The room was not air conditioned so we had to keep our window open at night and listened to all the night sounds from the restaurants. The tv didn't work either.
A really good deal for the location, in the notoriously expensive Switzerland Clean room and bathroom facilities Room pleasantly cooler on a hot day 400 meters from Steinen Parkhäuser parking garage Lots of eateries around
10am check out The fact that the floor is right above the busy restaurant, with an open stairwell Not sure the TV actually worked, and it would have been silly to try to ask one of the gruff gentlemen in the restaurant No one told me that the map they gave me contained the free public transit card
