Cons: No muesli or oats at breakfast. The only fresh fruit were unpeeled kiwi.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really friendly on arrival, and the hotel felt bright, comfortable and secure. The location is great for walking to all the main sites (we only had an afternoon but walked to the castle, abbey, the port and the main streets for restaurants/bars), and the underground car park is open 24/7 and is a 5 minute walk away, cheap and convenient.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Receptionist really welcoming and helpful. Central location. Clean and tidy eastablishment
Cons: Parking on site would be nice but as It is in the city an understandable situation. Perhaps a concise indication of the parking available nearby would be good. E g. Free on street parking after 1900 until 09-30 the next day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: No elevator
Cons: Location, staff support and pricing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful help from Laure in reception
7.1 Good
Pros: The owner was very accommodating about check in. She had sent an email with he code to enter the front door, unfortunately we were traveling and did not get it. When we arrived it was after checking time, but she had a phone number posted and when we called she provided the code and then came down to greet us, even though she had already laid out the keys for our room on the desk. A very pleasant experience for us.
Cons: It would have been nice to have a fan in the room as it was a hot summer night, there is no A/C and street noise prevents you from sleeping with the windows open. With the windows closed it is very quiet. Also it would be a nice touch to provide a few extra pillows in the rooms. It would definitely add to the comfort of the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff spotless good location

Pros: The location was excellent
Cons: The room was extremely small

8.3 Excellent
Pros: reception staff could be a bit more friendly but otherwise it was great
Cons: couldn't open a window
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Modern, minimalistic and urban in the otherwise romantic Caen.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location, clean and awesome breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We had a family room which was two adjoining rooms. Two twins and a double room. Both with bathrooms. Beats the usual uncomfortable sofa bed and we had separate rooms to the kids. Beds were comfortable and rooms were spotlessly clean. The one up the road was £100 more and would have been a single family room. We went to the memorial museum which was fantastic (all about WWII)could spend a good few hours there.
Cons: Not much. It is a functional hotel rather than anything stylish. Don’t expect lots of frills or tons of character.
5.7 Okay
Pros: Close to train station and restaurants/shopping mall within walking distance. If you are just looking for a place to sleep with no extra fancy amenities then this hotel is fine.
Cons: No parking at hotel so you need to use the public underground parking garage. Parking is validated from 6pm to 9am. No restaurant on site. Breakfast is limited. Cereal, fruit, pastries, cheese, etc but no full breakfast choice. First room I checked into had broken AC. Initial reply from front desk was to open the window. Asked to transfer to a new room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: New and clean Parking free during night (I think it was 1800 - 0900) Friendly reception Good standard breakfast with everything available even with lots of people
Cons: not able to open windows
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Value for money: Breakfast is included, where others charge up to 11 euros. Also included is the parking garage nextdoor between 18:00-9:00. Inlcude the large rooms and excellent WiFi, this is a graat deal !!
Cons: Reaching the entrance over the traimrails and the pedestrians zone is somewhat difficult on a motorcycle
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel is in very close walking distance to the train/bus stations as well as to the bus stops for the airport bus. A lovely area on the Orne and close to many restaurants, cinema and a shopping mall. Most staff were helpful in giving directions to needed places as I didn't have a smartphone or if they weren't, they told me when somebody else would be available who could help me. I had an upgraded room which had a bath as well as a shower and a wonderful view towards the river and town with great sunsets. I loved the relaxation corner in reception where you could make yourself a free cup of tea or coffee and help yourself to biscuits or fresh fruit. Breakfast is varied and plentiful although the only cooked options are boiled eggs and toast. Good value for money.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel looks brand-new, stayed at #309 which is very spacy, was clean decent view
Cons: Payed 130 for the night which for an ibis styles is rather on the high side....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A really comfortable bed in a quiet room. The hotel location is ideal for arrival by train or by bus from the airport at Caen Carpiquet. The new trams now pass in front of the hotel. The river location is relaxing The breakfast is varied and good value for money with lovely fresh bread, fresh fruit salad and good coffee as well as cheeses, ham, boiled eggs, pastries etc. I loved the fact that you can make a tea or coffee when you want at no extra cost in the reception area as well as helping oneself to a biscuit or a piece of fruit. Staff were usually helpful and knowledgeable. There are many good restaurants nearby for lunch or evening meals.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, easy to find. Room was clean and very comfortable. It was spacious for a family of 4.
Cons: Nothing, with only staying for 1 night we didn't use all the facilities so couldn't really comment.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Nothing.
6.3 Good
Pros: The friendly staff
Cons: Really difficult to find and parking is a problem
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved this small hotel - great location (we walked from train station) such a friendly welcome, info provided and such a very comfortable bed and room.
Cons: Only tiny thing I could suggest is some milk for tea coffee as 2 tiny sachets provided not enough for one cup in Australia. It was not a problem though because upon request they delivered more.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Reception staff were really welcoming. Lovely people.
Cons: Toilet a bit smelly for some reason, but it was very clean
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location , room
Cons: Tha parking was a prpblem
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and friendly staff! We stayed for one night with our two year old and everything was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The continental breakfast was excellent value for money, the full buffet breakfast i found it a little expensive. However the staff was always extremely helpful and the room was spotless. The location is fantastic: in the very center of all the stores for the shoppers & within walking distance from the only old street of Caen saved from the 2nd WW which has a variety of restaurants. Next to the hotel there is a fantastic "restaurant gastronomique", called La chambre, very convinient if you don't want to walk around for you last evening. The food, the atmosphere & the staff were excellent. This is a hotel i will return gladly if i happen to stay in Caen again.
Cons: Very few parking places in the hotel's car park. It should be mention on the reservation somewhere in bold letters about the parking being limited within the hotel spaces.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely loved this hotel. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly and made our stay as comfortable as possible. Excellent location in the centre of Caen. Really comfortable room and nicely decorated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location excellent! Room very comfortable, great linens and quiet! Staff at hotel were amazing. Lined us up with tours and great restaurants. Very pleasant experience!
Cons: Finding it through the village construction was frustrating.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Central location, very helpful staff, comfortable room, good breakfast.
Cons: Coffee could be better.

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The bed was comfortable despite poor quality bed linen.
Cons: We were shocked to arrive and have to walk across a unstable plank with our cases to get into the hotel. No apology for the terrible state whatsoever from the staff. The standard was well below a 4 star and we felt cheated by the description given. Our money has already been taken an no refund allowable so we really had no option. The room was ok but of a 1/2 star standard. The bathroom was poorly equipped with no body lotion etc just one tub of multi use soap for hair, body etc..what you would expect from a low end chain hotel. Over all very poor and a really disappointing stay which will never be repeated.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Couldn’t park in underground car park with roof box
8.8 Excellent
Pros: outstanding service from the staff who all went out of their way to make us feel welcome and assist us with questions and requests. Un grand merci a tous, et surtout a Nadege
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Friendly, helpful staff. Very comfortable room.
Cons: Noise if construction work but not the fault of the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The city is a great location from which to explore the Normandy sights. Staff at the hotel were very helpful.
Cons: Beyond the control of the hotel but right outside the hotel roadworks were going on all day. However the hotel did email prior to arrival informing us of the works so it was expected albeit just before.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff went out of their way to make you comfortable, great location from all the Normandy beaches
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Desk clerks were great.
Cons: Could be updated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely loved the hotel and staff. We were not expecting much as the price was so low. Excellent value. The room was charming and the bathroom was very modern. The bed was extremely comfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, immaculately clean room & facilities
Cons: Nothing really wrong, but the hotel lacks some character
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The most important part of the hotel is its staff - and here the staff was SUPERB! Many thanks for all the tips provided and also explanation of the history! The room was super clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good. It is definitely a superb choice for visiting Caen also because of the location - right in the centre with many restaurants around and convenient car parking.

Pros: The Restaurant looked good but we only used it for breakfast. The staff were very helpful and all spoke good English. The hotel was well signposted from the main road which was very helpful

Pros: Restaurant had group bookings so could not eat there which was disappointing
Cons: See previous answer
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room had small terrace where we could sit out. Spacious room. Restaurant quite good and good value. Very popular with locals.
Cons: Strange location, but convenient for ferry.
7.9 Good
Pros: This is my second stay at this hotel. I booked last minute and I took it because of availability and the fact that they accept pets. The kitchen is very convenient but needed to ask for extra stuff as was not provided. Last time was lack of coffee/tea mugs, this time was no kettle, o no pan. the location is still a bit remote but ok if you are in a car and can drive to wherever you want to be (like the beach)
Cons: the bed, definitely the bed, too hard, my back hearts after
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The layout of the property is quite different. However, the rooms were large, and I believe each has their own balcony. The rooms were very clean. The furnishings were very good. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were very friendly and obliging. A possibly minor item was providing us with bottles of water at check out . A nice touch. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
Cons: The one and only complaint was was the wifi. In the main lobby it was good, however in our room it was poor. I suggest this was due to layout of the property as mentioned above.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: excellent all round. Shower was brilliant. Breakfast varied and as much as wanted. Staff very helpful and obliging.
Cons: Location is next to a large supermarket which has pros and cons!
8.8 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building set in lovely grounds. The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: Our room did not have a hook for the shower on the wall high enough to stand under so unless you wanted a bath it was difficult
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice Chateau with friendly staff. We had a Deluxe room wich was nice and clean. Dinner was good but at a very high price. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, and in our opinion not 5-star-hotel worthy.
Cons: Breakfast could be better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely chateau with charming rooms.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a beautiful park and surrounded by all sorts of gardens. Superb in every way; a guest is treated as a real king or queen.
Cons: The price of the breakfast and drinks is rather high. In case of "eating out", you have to go by car, since there are no other restaurants close by.

Pros: Beautiful building and location
Cons: Small room, average food and not enough trained staff.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Located in the old part of Caen short 5 minute walk to restaurants, bars and places of interest.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Did not take eggs. The bed was comfortable. Isabelle and Guillaume are very friendly and helpful. They made the third floor walk-up tolerable (I got the last room in the house!). Also made a great recommendation for a restaurant.
Cons: Parking was a bit of a juggle and the third floor walk up (because I'm old!)
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great location, breakfast was nice.
Cons: The rooms were very tired and tatty, photos didn't match them at all. Bathroom light didn't work and when we mentioned it, staff made half hearted attempt to sort it but it still didn't work. Beds were not comfy, the rooms were tiny and opened to outside walkway, it was very hot and not possible to open the window as it was part of the door... breafast was nice but they run out of many foods half way through, not good as they knew how many people had booked it! I suspect lot of the other reviews are fake as they were singing praise to this place, but it was huge dissappointment! okay to just sleep in for one night, nothing more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff arrived early and was able to check in
Cons: Nothing for the price paid it was very good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Manager was hospitable and very charming

Pros: Great location and parking facilities, if you are using the parking facilities here get there early as it quite limited. The room was lovely would definitely stay here again.
Cons: 2 Very picky point because the stay was lovely but just a closer eye for detail as there hairs left in the shower and sink. The bed was also wedged on top of a table making the bed look wonky... I pulled the little table out and trapped my partners toes underneath.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, comfortable bed, great receptionist, secure parking.
Cons: Could do with body wash in shower
7.5 Good
Pros: Secure parking was a plus. The kitchen was a little small. The seal on the dishwasher was broke and took 3 days to fix. Washing all the dishes in the tiny sink was not easy. The couch covering was ripped and some areas were shabby. But a good value for a family of four in this region.

Pros: Very comfortable room, clean. Nice location, close to bus stop that will take you to the city centre or memorial. Very delicious food, both roomservice and restaurant! Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Cons: Taps are a bit loosened in the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice size comfortable room. We used the spa facilities for the extra 15euro each ,which was great after a long day of sightseeing. Breakfast was outstanding as was the meal in the restaurant
Cons: Nthing
5.8 Okay
Cons: In the spa water is very dirty as like do not change 15 days. In room do not lighting. In the shower do not brash and pest for clients. Just thinking 5 stars in the room not much lighting.
7.1 Good
Pros: We had a very comfortable room and enjoyed the little touches - chocolates and a lovely recipe to try ourselves. The location is great for access to Caen either walking or the bus stops very close.
Cons: The staff were extremely unhelpful and therefore we did not get to eat in the restaurant or even enjoy a drink at the bar. We ordered room service and this too was very disappointing in lack of choice, tasteless food and no milk. When I called reception, no answer. On leaving to settle our bill I was not even asked how was my stay. Very disappointing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was in a quiet part of Caen. All main routes were easily accessible The restaurant was amazing the food was delicious. They also had a Normandy gin which was really good so good we bought two bottles. Visiting Bayeux and Arramanch to see the WW11 museum about the D/Day landings was very interesting.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location, lovely room and nice staff.
Cons: WiFi was not great but a small item in a good stay
6.3 Good
Pros: Quite location and private parking
Cons: Restaurant staff is staring towards the rooms windows during their smoke brakes (bathroom has a window too). Walls in the rooms are dirty from bags and dust. Too far from the center and all other restaurants besides the one in the hotel which is not working on Sundays and Monday’s. Breakfast is average. Would not recommend it to my friends. Also. When checking in I saw how a receptionist helped to carry luggage to the car of previous guest. No one has offered me the same service. This is not 5 star hotel, 3+ max. Choose something in the city center.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Restaurant was good
Cons: Front office staff slightly stern. We went to courtyard for a drink - no cushions offered for outdoor furniture Nor any attention following initial drink after 45mins. No shower - it’s a tap in the bath
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Modern, clean and comfortable rooms with excellent air conditioning. The menu in the restaurant was fabulous and we truly enjoyed our meal and wines. Excellent!

6.7 Good
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: The written information available in the room referred to the BBC news channel being available on the TV. This was not true, there were only French channels available. I asked about this and was told that they used to have that channel but not now. They should correct the information booklet as this is how guests obtain information about facilities. Very disappointing. Breakfast was disappointing.
7.1 Good
Pros: The hotel is well situated for the centre,BUT if you stay at the front of the hotel its opposite two very noisy bars. People talking and very noisy until 5am . Due to hot weather and no air conditioning in the hotel we couldn't fully close the shutters and windows.
Cons: Very noisy bars opposite open until early hours
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcoming staff. Cyclist friendly accommodation.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hôtel Saint Etienne, you'll be centrally located in Caen, a 5-minute drive from Caen Memorial and 6 minutes from Festyland.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very cozy hotel in the centre of the city. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly - they went to great lengths to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Lots of public parking spaces nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was lovely - really friendly and informative, though speaks little English, and the two rooms rented were really nice (though room 7 was of a much higher standard than room 4 - which doesn't include tea-making facilities and doesn't have a dual-head shower, as found in room 7). Having little biscuits in both rooms was a nice touch.
Cons: More tea/coffee options in room 7, and similar facilities in room 4. And digital tv so that there are at least some channels, such as news channels, in English.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Staff
Cons: To much expensive for those standards
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast at a communal table which led to some interesting conversations with fellow guests.(so much for trying to avoid Brexit whilst away) Superb location in a city which had much more interesting architecture than I had been led to believe. The hotel itself is in a charming old building in an interesting neighbourhood.
Cons: Somewhat noisy but this was unavoidable given the excellent location
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location and very friendly staff that made everything easy even before arriving.
Cons: The room will provide need soon a renovation, although it is still ok.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A real character building, one of the oldest remaining in Caen. Clean and comfortable. Do let the manager know before hand that you want to have breakfast so he can prepare enough. He was very accommodating and friendly and managed to put on a fine breakfast. The manager and the character of the building were definitely highlights for us. As was sharing a breakfast table with a delightful couple from Portugal.
Cons: The shower did not appear to have enough hot water, or we did not know how to use it properly. It would benefit from instructions if this is the case as late arrivals self check in via a code. This is not a dislike, just a note that there is no parking, only on road parking. It is free on the evenings and, at least on a Saturday, it is free up until 9:30. After that is is around €1.00 an hour. The manager was very good at letting us know that in correspondence.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: In the hall way was a urin smell. Same in our room but not as strong. The bed sheet was dirty. Generally the room was ok . Bathroom a disaster. The room between toilet and sink to small. The towel holder next to the toilet brush so that every time by removing the towel could be avoided to wipe over the toilet brush. Despite paid room cash ,the hotel debited the money from card. Contacted several times the reception and after 12 days the amount wasnt refunded to the account. It's not understandable how this hotel is having a rating over 8.there are major issues with service and especially cleanliness
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and good value
Cons: Could have had tea and coffee facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love this hotel. The staff are friendly and patient. The rooms have character and are comfortable. The breakfast spread is excellent and in a nice cosy setting. And of course the location is ideal for exploring the centre. All in all, a lovely hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the charm of Hotel Etienne - how the owner was able to incorporate the old with the new. The staircases refurbished their natural wood, and special features in the room lent to its appeal. ( built in the wall linen closet, etc.) Ayman, the college student who worked the desk, among other roles was wonderful! He was helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Pros: Lean and tidy, good maid service and good location
Cons: No air conditioning in the room so very hot.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast. Close to the town centre. These are the only reasons to stay there.
Cons: Just about the smallest bathroom I have ever used, to the extent that use of toilet and shower was difficult. The smallest lift ever, a friend actually chose to photograph it. No air conditioning, room stuffy. Parking terrible, on street and busy. Needs some TLC.

Pros: Excellent location, right in the middle of town. Good size family room.
Cons: Car park is only small and you need to make a reservation in advance.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff. Always a smile and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Fresh bread and croissant. Good quality yogurt, apple compote, jam selection... really great coffee. A very good property for a 2 star hotel and in a great location for visiting.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Close to the centre very handy for walking around the city. Rooms were fine, clean and the staff very friendly. Parking was a slight issue as the hotel only has a couple of spaces but the parking meters stop in the evening and it’s free to park out side the main area, so if your willing to move your car around it’s free parking.
Cons: No air conditioning, had to sleep with the window wide open as it was so hot and because we did that we got bitten by mosquitos (so may be a good idea to take some mosquito repellent) in the summer months.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was good, location was excellent
Cons: bar was expensive
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Horrible experience. Someone entered in the middle of the night to our room even with the door locked! Apparently, they assigned our room to another guest who arrived quite late. We protested twice to different receptionist and they both failed handling the situation: they didn't apologize properly and they excused selfshelves pointing to someone else. Apart from the above we also got wrong schedule information about the parking area next to the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a perfect location - just a 2 minute stroll from the town centre & close to numerous bars & restaurants. It has secure underground parking which is well worth the 12 euro charge & a great breakfast selection. We used this as a base for visiting the D Day landing beaches a short drive away. This is our second stay here & we would happily return again.
Cons: Nothing !

Pros: History in the centre was extensive
Cons: All

Pros: This hotel is centrally located in Caen next to the marina. Underground parking is ideal for motorbikes.
Cons: The rooms are basic.. typically continental standard. comparable to a travelodge.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location was excellent.
Cons: Hotel was much more expensive than other Ibis hotels I have stayed in French cities. The cleaners started making a noise too early in the morning for weekends(8.30am)
