Big Failure - Was left high and dry at the airportCons:They failed to pick me up at the airport. I waited 2 hours. No one answered their telephone numbers. The local rep at Avis happen to know the owner or manager of the rental company and called him on his personal telephone to tell him they had a customer waiting. The rep that showed up at the airport would not accept responsibility for their screw up, not even an upgrade. He blamed the screw up on the previous employee who may have left their shift early or bad flight delay info. When I returned the car, and asked for a discount, or they basically said it was my fault for not putting the flight number on the reservation. I reserved the car through Kayak and to the best of my knowledge Kayak didn't ask me for it. The worst customer service ever. I would not rent from this car company at all.Reviewed 6 Jul. 2016

THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES! DO NOT USE THISPros:THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON WHO GAVE US THE CAR.Cons:EVERYTHING- I TRAVELED TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC RELYING ON ECONOMY RENT CAR KNOWN AS AMERI RENT CAR IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO PICK US UP FROM THE AIRPORT IN SANTIAGO DR. THE SHUTTLE NEVER SHOWED. LUCKILY MY HUSBAND'S COUSIN CAME TO THE RESCUE AND DROVE US TO THE PLACE (AFTER HAVING TO CALL NUMEROUS TIMES) ONCE WE ARRIVED THE PERSON WAS VERY WELCOMING WHICH MADE US FEEL BETTER. HALF WAY THROUGH OUR TRIP THE TIRE BLEW AND ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY 7 YR OLD CHILD IN THE CAR AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE TOOLS TO CHANGE THE TIRE WERE INCOMPLETE. AT THAT POINT I BEGAN TO CALL THE RETURN LOCATION (PUNTA CANA WAS MY FINAL DESTINATION) THE PHONE JUST RANG FOR LITERALLY DAYS. WHEN I WENT TO RETURN THE CAR AT MY RETURN HOUR OF 5PM (WE GOT THERE AT 4:30) NO ONE WAS AT THE AIRPORT AND THE ACTUAL STORE LOCATION WAS CLOSED. MY FLIGHT WAS AT 7PM, WE ALMOST MISSED OUR FLIGHT AND ENDED UP LEAVING THE CAR AT THE AIRPORT WITH MY MOTHER WHO RETURNED THE CAR THIS MORNING. SHE SAID THE PERSON WHO SHE INTERACTED WITH WAS FRIENDLY BUT CLAIMED THAT WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE TIRE DAMAGE AND THE PER HOUR RATE FOR THE CAR BECAUSE WE EXCEEDED OUR CONTRACT DAYS!! HE CLAIMS HE IS TRYING TO FIGHT THE TIRE CHARGE AND OVERCHARGE FOR US WHICH IS "NICE" BUT AFTER THE EXPERIENCE I HAD WITH THOSE THIEVES MY ENTIRE BILL SHOULD BE WAIVED! LUCKILY I PAID FOR LIABILITY INSURANCE AND MY CARD WOULD HAVE COVERED MY COLLISION DAMAGES HAD THEIR BEEN ANY. IF THIS COMPANY TRIES TO CHARGE ME A PENNY MORE THAN WHAT WAS AGREED I WILL BE TAKING IMMEDIATE ACTION. I AM NOT EVEN SURE WHY THIS IS EVEN AN OPTION ON THESE WEBSITES TRAVELERS DEPEND ON. THE DROP OFF/PICK UP INFORMATION PROVIDED IS NOT EVEN ACCURATE THE ADDRESSES AND PHONE NUMBERS ARE ALL WRONG. I AM WRITING IN CAPS SIMPLY BECAUSE I AM EXTREMELY ANGRY! AS A PERSON THAT WORKS HARD TO TAKE A RELAXING VACATION THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL. I HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL TO ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS OPTION. Poor and Agressive Service (Cibao International AiPros:The car itself was fine, but service was horrible.Cons:1) We were left stranded at our arrival airport for an hour when the person delivering our car didn't show up. We had to have an employee from a different car rental company call him to figure out where the hell he was. 2) He finally showed up at 10pm after we arrived at 9, and drove us to an off airport location (unlike all the other car rental companies) where a second person with a SHOTGUN in-hand closed the gate behind us!!! WTF? 3) He tried bullying us into paying over twice the amount we were shown on the internet due to "required insurance." 4) After finally getting the price down NEAR to what our reservation claimed it would be (except for a $7 per day "mandatory" liability insurance), I had to put a $1,500.00 deposit down on my credit card. 5) In the end, we paid $54 more than what we were expecting, and the $1,500 deposit disappeared when we got home. So it mostly turned out ok. Conclusion: We didn't get shot, we didn't screwed over (completely), and we didn't get raped, but would I do it again? Definitely NOT. Given a second chance, I would've either gone with a company located inside the airport terminal, or taken a taxi to my destination. Stay clear of this place.Reviewed 12 May 2016

Do not book with Economy Rent a CarPros:NothingCons:Hello I made a reservation for my stay in Santiago, Dominican Republic. 2 day rental The website suggested that I should take the Allianz Car insurance and so we did. On any of the steps they informed us that we would need to pay extra coverage with the company upon arrival.  They didnt accept the coverage I took on the website and we were forced to  The policy on for economy car rental on your website says that the mandatory liability insurance was $6.95 to $7.95, they charged us $17.95 Their policy on your website says we had 3 options for insurance coverage from 10.99 to  27.99, they charged us $34.90 per day. We had to take it because if we decided to use only Allianz insurance they would put a hold of $3,200 on our credit card. The first car they gave us had battery failure so they had to change it for a second one.. the second car they gave us had 0 gas, empty, we had to drive 5 min with the empty blinking light, not knowing of the car was going to shut down.. to find a gas station.. After our first evening with the car we parked it at the hotel at midnight, we woke up at 9am and had to be heading to an appointment. The car couldnt start, it couldnt turn on. Battery dead. We had to wait 40min for the problem to be solved. First call to notify the problem was at 10:06, problem was solve at 10:42 The total amount they wanted to charge us for car rental insurance and mandatory liability was: $150.00 So, the website was promoting a prepaid car rental which I took. We paid $46.42 for a two day rental of car + insurance and taxes and the information provided was that we needed to pay only the mandatory liability of $6.95 and local tax (no percentage was informed) upon arrival. It turned out that the mandatory liability was $17.95 in reality and we were forced to pay another insurance coverage. I feel cheated by the website and the rental company.Reviewed 23 Aug. 2017

Never showed upPros:When we booked our car with economy, there was no mention of the fact that the office was outside of the airport. We went up to the 12 desks of rental cars and asked where the Economy desk was located and one of the reps explained that a rep will meet you outside. We went outside and no one was there, so we went back k. After a couple of calls and another unsuccessful attempt to link up with Economy outside the airport, we decided to go back in and book with another car rental company (as thankfully cars were available). Was not met by shuttle, could not reach office, stPros:Nothing, I never saw an employee or one of their cars.Cons:I was not met at the airport; their office is a short distance from the airport and transportation is necessary. After phoning their office several times over the course of three hours, I rented a car with another company. Economy then charged me a no-show fee of $50. I have a complaint registered with them and am hopeful that the charge will be reversed, but the whole experience did not reflect well on them. Maybe it was just a bad day, or the Santiago office is poorly staffed, I don't know, but they definitely made a terrible impression on me.Reviewed 17 Dec. 2015

Not pleasantCons:They had me waiting 40 min at airport for pick-up. When he finally came around he mixed up my name and left after I told him I wasn't "Ruben" then he came back around when he called back and noticed he had the reservations mixed up. Secondly I bought and reserved everything online including insurance. So I had 2 insurance policy's, one from my credit card and the additional and only option you can buy online. Once at the counter he was forcing me to buy THEIR insurance for some bogus reason about not being covered for third party which was untrue. The whole wait time and trying to scam me into purchase additional coverage for no reason I decided to go with a different company that gave me a better price while I was waiting for his pickup.
