Compact SUV

Terrible customer service. They allowed me to purchase the car online with only a credit card, showed up to leave the deposit and they refused to take the bank company my credit card is with?!??? Had to waste so much time ubering to a bank just to open an account to deposit money so I could leave the deposit!!!!!! Wtf!!?!? Once I pay, they hand me the key and point outside just saying “it’s the black one” hours later I realize that it’s an electric car. They gave me the car with less than a quarter battery and they provided no help to explain that it needs to be charged. With the battery extremely low, I drove around my area trying to find a charge spot however all locations were occupied. The car then DIES, luckily I’m at a gas station where I had to plug in the adapter inside their store. 2 hours later I have 5% battery that lasted just enough to drive to a car dealership. The car dies in me again. Two hours later they come to me and say it’s up to 13%. Hertz provided no support, yet offered to tow the car, 1 mile for $200 or more to another charger. Frustrated I called and asked to switch for a gas car. Their road side assistance confirmed I could swap and confirmed a new car is available to pick up at another location. I arrive at this location, speaking to the manager who gave no effort to look up my account then just tells me they have no cars available?!??? Extremely upset and stranded at the airport I have them speak to the agent who set up the exchange. The manager walks off and 10 minutes later MAGICALLY they now have a car available. I will never use this company again. They all suck!

Cons:

They didn’t have the car I requested. They called me at 7:42 AM for an 8 AM rental telling me to come at 9 because they had to pick the car up from downtown. I was going out of town and had an appointment so this out a serious damper in my plans. I get there at 9:05, evidently they still hadn’t got the car so they had to give me the car above that. Then I kept getting asked if I will really bring the car back the next day because they had no cars for other renters. I got asked this about twice. Will not be doing business with this place again.

I arrived at Hertz rental an hour before opening this past Monday on March 8 to be first to pick up the vehicle I prepaid for. Google listed them to open at 7:30am every day, however, a sign on the door showed they opened at 8am. We waited. The door was opened shortly after 8:00-8:01am. There were at least 4-5 people in line behind me. I was first through the door and immediately approached the counter. The salesperson greeted everyone and then asked if anyone was dropping off a vehicle. The lady that arrived about 30 minutes after me was dropping off. So the salesperson took her keys and went outside to check the returned vehicle which took around 7-8 minutes. She then returned to the office. A guy was typing something on the the same computer she previously sat at. He finished within a minute or two upon her return to the office. She told him to get the return keys from the drop box outside. Then she said to everyone that she was sorry, they were overbooked and had no vehicles to rent at the time. She said she would have to call around and that the Hertz office may not have vehicles until 1pm or later. My name was first on the printed paper she brought to the desk she sat at. She apologized a second time and offered to call everyone when she had a vehicle available. Not being able to drive off with the vehicle placed a huge damper on our schedule as we were hoping to be on the road at 9am. This failure sent us in a frenzy searching for an alternate place to rent from. I called and spoke to Hertz's customer service as well. The representative attempted to call the office that I had rented from, but they did not answer the phone. She also said she called other offices near my location with no luck of finding anything comparable to what I reserved. I asked for a refund and was told it would take 7-10 business days for processing. WHAT!!!??? So not only did Hertz ruin our plans and crunch our schedule by not honoring our rental, they kept our money too! Money that could have been used towards another rental company. Today is March 12 and I have yet to receive a refund. Not confident to do business with Hertz again because of this.

Intermediate SUV

Received a price from kayak and booked the car. On my way to pick up the car, I called to confirm the price etc, I was told there would be a 30 cents a mile charge for the one way trip not mentioned on the website booking. It more than doubled the cost of the rental so I did not pick up the car.
