No fault of the workers at the location, but there was mandatory insurance that was not included in the original price of the car. The insurance ended up costing more than the rental. This needs to be included in the price shown on Kayak. It feels predatory.

It took them 45-60 minutes to check out each guest, were understaffed, and were not communicative about the situation. They were oversold and did not have the car we reserved. After waiting in line for 2 hours we left, went to another agency and had a better car, at the same price, in no more than 15 minutes. Zero stars avoid this place

near airport; fast shuttle; air conditioned office while checking in; insurance requirements are expensive but worth it for the peace of mind; return was super easy; shuttle back to the airport was quick with only a few minutes wait time. overall great experience -- especially since the car I got was basically brand-new, used diesel and therefore cost almost nothing, and supported Android Auto for access to my music and maps.

Gave me a very uneasy feeling the way they forced the insurance on me. Also the car was in rough shape, moldy interior, far from the quality of car I usually get from Hertz. Ultimately, they didn’t end up scamming me but I felt like they were going to at multiple stages.

It is not at the airport in Liberia. All the rentals are a shuttle there. They say you need insurance via the country but it’s per day not total. Hidden charges that aren’t explained. The pickup person asked to see a passport and took a picture with his cellphone.

Customer’s must understand third party insurance to include your credit card (exception AA Centurion) are not sufficient. You will need to pay for their mandatory liability insurance coverage or accept the risk and have a $1k deposit held on your card. If you do get in an accident and cause harm you will sign you are still responsible for the funds and the $1k deposit held will be charged.

We had a very pleasurable experience renting from Hertz. Easy to book when we got to the airport the shuttle picked us up brought us to the rental. Got In-N-Out within 20 minutes. The car was very clean efficient on gas. I’m very happy we had rented a vehicle on our trip to have the freedom to explore Costa Rica the way we wanted to.

Hertz price does not reflect true price. Upon arrival they state Costa Rica law you must get insurance from them only. So if one pays from the site they have to pay again. Should be told before booking if that’s the law. And reflect the price correctly. False advertising and price alteration not great for consumers.

Pros:

Pick up was a nightmare. We were completely lied to about the price online. When we just so happen to have printed out the pricing we were given online they did give us a discount but still at about double the price we agreed to.

Cons:

You need to vet your providers prior to displaying prices. The price you listed vs the price we had to pay was vastly different.

Pick up and drop off were very easy. Everyone was so nice. We also experienced a problem after we headed south. The Jaco Alamo office was very quick to fix the problem and get us back on the road. Gracias!!

Great staff. Easy process. Clean car.

Cons:

Hidden fees and required insurance resulted in a 3x increase to quoted rate from website. Instead of $246.93, total cost was $735.13. Kayak is a joke. This is the ultimate rip-off as there was no way to accurately compare REAL cost of the rental. Further, the front end of this car was in terrible shape. At the first bump encountered, the left front end slammed loudly - which was an indicator of a car that was unsafe to drive. Very disappointed is an understatement.

Dirty car inside, like totally dirty and mark no damages, but there was damages and it was hard to c them at night what was the pick up. I was lucky to find the damages on a rental parking lot and make the photos, otherwise they would ask me to pay for them. The request of 2 credit cards as guaranteed was shock, they said we need two of your credit cards as it a luxury car. Lucky me I have 2

Supplier choice

KAYAK
The supplier choice is apparently an EV even though I didn’t select the EV option. They require you to bring the car back charged. For a one day rental to the airport, that is not realistic. I was also charged for gas, which I had stopped near the airport and filled up. I eventually got a credit but the whole thing was a hassle and didn’t leave me feeling good about renting from Budget in the future.

Pick up process was ridiculous. I'm not exaggerating--standing outside (not in any type of building or cover) for 56 minutes while they tried to figure out rentals for myself and 7 other customers. Ended up just giving me a size up, was not cleaned well, didn't have record of what fuel level was at, and staff spoke all of 3 words to me. I saw the poor reviews at this location and figured, how bad can it be? Yes I got my vehicle and it worked fine, but the entire pick up and drop off experience was horrible and I do not plan to rent from this brand at this airport again.
