They didn't have the vehicle I reserved and I paid with a credit card, but they still charged me a $150 deposit.

Poor follow through on 2nd month and 3rd month of rental. Kept having to fix Budget errors in not renewing my lease until spending an hour waiting and then speaking on the phone to clear up Budget mistakes. Also overcharged by $100 on overall fee.

There was a very long line at the counter and I had to wait for 35 minutes for the vehicle to be ready. This was frustrating to all involved. The employees were very kind and patient and were working as fast as they could.

When I arrived just after 11pm to get my car, no one was manning the Avis/Budget desk at the Palm Springs airport. This despite their open hours being until midnight. I had to rideshare to my destination and return to the airport the next day to get my rental car. It took 90 minutes of waiting in line and at the desk for them to get me a car. They said they had run out of cars the night before. There was no communication about this nor was there any signage at the desk. A rep from another rental company told a couple of other parties and me that they had all gone home.

After reserving my vehicle with a debit card via the pay later option when I tried to pick up my car at Palm Springs airport the Hertz employee told me because I didn’t have the CREDIT card I used to make the reservations I could not pick up the car and I could not get a refund. I had to have a friend reserve the car under his name and pay an additional fee to add me as a driver even though I was the one that reserved for and paid for the car. Again, I made the reservation with a debit card, but it hurts. Employee refused to accept the card that I used to make the reservation even though that is the policy.

I arrived to only be told that I would be charged an additional 800 dollars on top of what I already paid online. I felt like I was being scammed for more money. I ended up paying 450 usd more than my quoted priced online when booking and paying. I feel very taken advantage of. Will never book again through Kayak or through this company. Disgraceful service and they should be ashamed.

Cons:

We did not get the car we asked for--the alternative was too small for our needs. And, I felt ripped off by all the extra fees, etc. Based on the "advertised" Kayak price, we should have paid much less buying making an advance deposit. The fees drove up the total significantly. Net, most likely will not use a third party again for car rental.

The process was pretty smooth and quick.

Cons:

They didn’t have the type of car we reserved (suv) and gave us a 4 door chevy. It fit us fine but wasn’t the size we’d reserved. Also, the car had a big dent and scratch along the back side which looked a little crappy driving it around Palm Springs.

Cons:

Counter agent in Palm Springs could have honored the original terms in the reservation from the beginning. The first contract he generated had the price at almost $900, the reservation price was about $398.00. It was corrected when I pointed it out to the guy.

Compact

Better advice choosing a vehicle. Offered an upgrade to a Prius that has a weak engine and bad for the highway. I specifically said I was traveling to Vegas and back. Plus charging me almost $100 for half a tank of gas after dropping it off. Feels like a rip off to me.

The pick up desk at PSP is a disaster, so many people wanting cars and too few employees helping them. Very aggravated customers in the very long lineup to pick up vehicles. Express drop off, on the other hand, worked very well.

Supplier choice

Got to the desk and was shocked to see a line of people that probably would have taken over an hour to get a car. So went to the preferred desk when there was a budget and avis guy with nothing to do. I couldn't remember my number, but the guy looked it up. However, he gave me a Ford 150 truck -- a bit much. Soi, mixed bag, but appreciated the help
