Pick-up at SYR took almost an hour because desk was understaffed. 2 people serving 40-50 Budget AND Avis customers in line. And line was just as bad when we left. The price ended up at $160 a day excluding prepaid gas for a Camry -- really poor value. And more than what was advertised in booking. The staff at SYR were good. And drop off was easy.

I waited in line for an hour. There was one person working the desk. There were still 14 people ahead off me. I did not have another hour to spare, as my meeting was fast approaching. I called Budget to cancel because I COULD NOT GET IT. They promised a refund. Iv'e called several times. I never got a car and never received the EIGHT HUNDRED dollar refund. STAY AWAY FROM BUDGET

The vehicle had a sticker on the door saying it was cleaned. A baby sock was found in the back hatch area, which should have been easily found if cleaned. The worst part was a strong odor coming from the driver side back seat. Terrible smell, I drove straight from NY to Fl. When I got home my wife told me it smelled like baby vomit or spilt formula.

Staff members. Girl that had to downgrade me from an SUV to a full size vehicle was just doing her job.

Cons:

Don't use a debit card unless you only want a maximum of a full size car. I requested an SUV because I had to travel and the weather got pretty bad. I had to downgrade to the Maxima and the handling was terrible. I understand there's rules but my debit card has more cash on it than most credit cards. They could have done a larger deposit or something to secure the vehicle I requested. I needed the vehicle so I couldn't cancel or change things.

I showed up to find out there were no cars available even with the reservation. After leaving the airport I was able to make another reservation about 2 hours later. There is no way to call the Representatives at the airport to find out if there were in fact cars there. So I called what must have been an Alamo corporate office and was assured there were in fact cars available. I then went back to the airport to pick up a car to find out there are still no cars available. Alamo enterprise, hertz, the entire fleet at the Syracuse airport was allowing reservations but had no cars to rent. This was an absolutely miserable experience.

The SUV was quite comfortable but was filthy when we picked it up. Originally I thought I requested a small SUV but when I got to the counter I was told otherwise. He offered an upgrade for the infinity SUV so I agreed. After paying and picking up the vehicle it was noted to be filthy and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. To the point it made us nauseated. I am on chemotherapy and we also had a 5 year old with us. Me being on chemo made the smoke sensitivity worse. We were in a tight deadline after we picked it up to get to our destination so I couldn’t exchange it. I mentioned it to the clerk in the parking garage but was told us have to go back inside the airport. As above, we didn’t have time to spare. Upon return I mentioned to the attendant in the airport, she took my name and number then assured me a manager would call. It’s been 3 days later now and no phone call. Very disappointed in this transaction and likely to never rent from Payless again. Would ultimately appreciate some sort of compensation for the filthy vehicle.

When I signed up for the car which was a one way trip from NY to NC it asked me when I would pick up the vehicle and when I would drop it off. I entered 8:00am pickup on Sunday, drop off before 6:00pm Monday. I dropped off at 4:00pm. Hertz didn't have that information so instead of paying $216 I wound up paying $390 and I am less than happy. $15.75/hr plus addl for anything over 24 hrs. Find this unfair and wrong. Wont rent again through Kayak

While there were many cars available I was assigned a Chevrolet Spark (sub-compact) by the desk agent. I am 6'3". The car was a 2020 model with 40,000+ miles, had not been cleaned from the previous driver, had bald tires, and warning that the oil life was at 0%. $500+ for 3 days in an uncomfortable and potential unsafe vehicle.
