Cons: Way too expensive for what I received. Staff tried to include roadside assistance without my permission and was extremely rude.

Watch what they charge!!!
Cons: My rental was only supposed to be $40 and ended up with a CC charge of $360. Not cool when you're on vacay and don't have access to $320 for 7-10 business days. Plus, they tried to charge me more than the rate I agreed to on Kayak. Watch what they charge.

Pros: Everything flowed conveniently for this rental experience
Cons: The price was a little steep for a couple days but that's to be expected from the airlift location

The best service at 5:45am
Pros: The front desk guy was very friendly and professional. We're exhaust with the red eye fly and the car he gave us was a really good option for Alaska.
Cons: Have to wait from 4:30am until 6am to pick up my car at the airport. They don't open until 6am.

Deceptive advertising on Kayak.com
Pros: Quick check back in upon return.
Cons: I booked with Thrifty via Kayak.com based on class/cost/picture on Kayak.com- which featured a Nissan Murano. I needed the extra room for the snowboard I was travelling with. Upon check in, I was informed that I would need to pay for an upgrade in order to accommodate my snowboard. After back and forth with the agent, I had to pay an extra $20 per day of my rental in order to get a Nissan Murano. Yes, the EXACT make/model vehicle that was featured in my original booking. The agent said that this is how Thrifty/kayak get people to select their service. This is deceptive, mis-leading and entrapping 'customer service'. I had no choice but to pay more- ALMOST 50% more than what I booked on kayak.com- having to forego other expenses in my trip to offset this increased cost. This leaves such a bad impression- I am very unhappy.

Cons: In Alaska, it would make sense to have snow tires on the cars. We slid all over the roads which were covered in snow. No grip whatsoever. I felt like we were endangered in this vehicle.

Pros: The service was nice.
Cons: The cars wipers didn't work and it was blizzarding outside. I had to fill the wiper fluid myself. They said there was a shuttle to the airport and there wasn't so I had to spend $20 each way on a taxi. The posted hours were wrong and they were closed when I dropped the car off.

The car they tried to rent me shouldnt have been a
Pros: Nothing, seedy people and place
Cons: The car was not mechanically safe. If it had to undergo an inspection it surely would have been taken off the road. Many problems - unsafe

Lies, misleading information, and dangerous
Cons: When we got there, the van we reserved wasn't ready, but the counter guy said he could give us a different one with studs. Being from Alaska, I had assumed any rental car in the winter would have studs or at least snow tires, but no, their standard rates only cover summer tires. Apparently they want their customers to get in wrecks. Then he cut us a "deal" to "only" pay an additional $20 a day for the studs, an essential piece of safety equipment. Just after we left the airport, we noticed a tiny rock chip in the windshield, way up above the rearview mirror. To be on the safe side, we called in to tell them about it, and they said they'd note it down, no need to come back to change the previous damage form. When we returned it, they "noticed" it (probably because the note told them it was there- otherwise, who looks in the darkened part of the windshield above the mirror?), said they had no record of our call, and charged us for the damage. Basically, Thrifty is renting cars unsuitable for winter roads, upcharging customers for necessary equipment, and scamming them with damage charges. Stay away.

Dodge Caravan in an Anchorage Winter
Pros: It was big enough to hold everybody during a relative's visit. Sliding doors keep the activity area around the vehicle tight. Thrifty staff were great and had no problem renting the rig.
Cons: Traction control drags the vehicle into a right turn into the next lane. Tires were not very all weather-studs cost a lot more per day. Got stuck on plowed roads at intersections. Scary. Not enough tethers for child seats and with three child seats in the rig. very tight squeeze in there. Headlight switch kinda stank, drove around with lights out a lot. Bag this car.

Pros: Good service
Cons: They did not inform me of a 250 buck deposit while using a major credit card. A 2 day rental cost me with deposit 444 bucks. I could of went to enterprise and got 2 weeks for that much Insurance was outrageous

Read the fine print. they hold $500 in your debit
Cons: Didn't have vehicles with studded tires for snow. Hello this is Alaska. They punish you for what others are doing to them. With all the modern technology the fact that some people are keeping their cars longer than they are supposed to should be a no-brainer have a GPS to find it. their excuse that people are abusing the rental privilege to me is incorrect. I paid for the insurance but didn't pay for the car I was not able to go on my trip and I will never rent from this company again.

Pros: Pickup/drop off was fast
Cons: I drove to Denali Park. It rained part of the way and the tires slipped a bit. I checked the tires later and found the front tires were close to bald. They said I could bring the car back "empty" and they would charge me for gas at a low price. Okay, sounds good. But I found out later they charge you for a full tank regardless of how much gas is left. Good thing I only had a quarter tank left.
