Cons:I didn’t use Alamo on my most recent trip. I used Thrifty and was overcharged. So, if you were to ask me about Thirty they would get this review.Reviewed 27 Aug. 2020

Worst Alamo Service EverPros:The Portland PDX agents were some of the least helpful, argumentative, callous customer service I have ever experienced. Highlights include asking for a manager twice, being redirected to an assistant manager who attempted to escort us away and void our reservation and then being told by the manager that we should have asked for her. We spent 3 hours at the pick up location and had to go back and forth twice to PDX on a shuttle and call Alamo customer service. The manager charged over $500 to my debit card for a reservation that was originally $109 without mentioning the price change and became immediately defensive and rude when asked about it. Overall, worst car rental to date and will not be using Alamo again or recommending it. Totally rerouted our trip, forced us to change our road trip, cancel camping reservations, purchase new Amtrak tickets and drive over the cascades in the dark.Cons:Portland PDX Alamo managementReviewed 27 Aug. 2017

Just OkPros:There were larger but ugly cars availableCons:I paid more for a "midsize". The car I ended up with was a small Nissan pickup. Not that I wanted a pickup but it was that or a minivan. Being 6'4" the other "midsize" choices were so small I could hardly fit in them, and couldn't see out the windshield well at all. Midsize? Really? A tiny 2 door Hyundai (I believe a Genesis coupe) cannot possibly be a midsize. The guy inspecting on return was very interested in a "dent" in the door. Minuscule and did not occur in my possession. There were food crumbs around the center console. We had no food in the vehicle.Reviewed 4 Jul. 2017

InsurancePros:Quick & friendly.Cons:I'd like Kayak's services and Alamo's services to be clearer. I bought the basic Allianz insurance online and Alamo told me that theirs was better + their would waive the extra driver if we switched to their insurance. At no point did they tell us that we had to cancel the Allianz one (which we did 2 days later after realizing the transaction was pending on our bank account)! Also, we had a problem with the car on the highway. A piece fell from the bottom of the car and we were basically dragging it. When we called Alamo, the person on the phone told us to drive to an Enterprise location (6 min away) where we would be helped (they would call them to explain the situation). At Enterprise, we were told that we couldn't be helped (they seem to lack cars from our category) and sent to a mechanics nearby to have the car repaired. We did that and left some time later with a repaired car. At no point did Alamo call us back to check in on us. Eventually, when we dropped off the car, they deducted one day from our bill. That was fine with us.Reviewed 9 Dec. 2015

Personnell good, procedural problemsPros:All staff/drivers/customer service reps polite and friendly. Had a good deal to upgrade on a truck for $15 a day on my first rainy visit to Portland. Have same year and model pickup, so I figured it would be helpful in navigating a new area to be familiar with the vehicle. Arriving, upgrading, and obtaining my rental was pleasant and quick.Cons:First stop I made in the area, I exited this truck the same way I do mine. Keys in the console, exit vehicle, and lock with keypad on outside. The only problem was this was not my truck with my key code and I didn't realize it till I got back to the vehicle in freezing rain. I frantically tried to find an office number for the particular branch of Alamo as my phone died standing in the rain. I figured they would know the code back where I rented the vehicle. I got transferred to Central corporate helpline , gentleman was very patient and polite, and did his job well. However they did not keep those codes on file. since mine and everybody elses normal insurance covers rentals, I opted out of the extra coverage. In doing so I did not get roadside assistance, but they quickly call the local tow truck company and on my bill is going to receive the $70 charge upon returning the rental and wait for them an hour to get there in the rain. Girl in the store new a local driver, who came and got me in the truck for 20 bucks. Luckily I was able to cancel the other tow truck in time. I was there for a job interview and it ran a little late. So I was a little late to the airport and returning the vehicle. I understand that going over your scheduled time would be costly, however they still had a $70 charge for the lockout and they also charge me $5 more a day for the upgrade than they told me. It took an extremely long amount of time to clear it up while people kept passing it up the ladder and I ended up not having time to dispute the $5 more than expected on the upgrade. However I did mention it, and it seemed fine that I was going to eat that extra money which was half of the service charge that I had just cleared up. I stuck with Alamo since the first experience with them was pleasant and have not changed since. however I'll be flying back to Portland in a week and will not be doing business anymoreReviewed 22 Dec. 2016

A new ball gamePros:car and service quality was excellentCons:The game for Car insurance for foreigners has changed drastically . the prices you now quote on line are as close as a fraud has one can get . By the time liability insurance and taxes are included the cost of the car has doubled . We have been traveling to the USA every year ...AND UNTIL last year prices were quoted inclusive of all taxes and basic insurance ...and this thing just changed the game ...making car rental a great deal more expensive . I have tried to get car insurance on my own ...but no one will insure you unless you are a US resident . Unless this issue gets resolved ....I will most probably re assign my 2 month traveling to another country .Reviewed 21 May 2017
