Hotel is very nicely and tastefully decorated, lots of artwork and fancy walls, ceilings, etc, and our room was very comfortable. They gave us a free upgrade upon check-in (from a deluxe room to a grand deluxe).
Location is perfect - it is right in the middle of town, close to all the attractions, restuarants, and shopping. Yet the inside of the hotel is very quiet and relaxing.
Breakfast buffet (included in our room rate) was AMAZING!! Excellent food, lots of choices, and of course excellent service from the staff.
I think it would be OK for kids, but it is probably better suited for adults.
My wife and I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this hotel!

Pros: The location, the decor, the turn down service, the perfectly quiet room, the breakfast which was excellent, the attention to detail... but above all the staff - from the moment we arrived each and every staff member was so helpful, polite and kind to us, they all made us so welcome and that really made a lasting impression. As I said every single staff member we encountered was wonderful, particular mention to David at the front desk who was outstanding with all his help, he made us a dinner reservation, gave us recommendations, booked our train tickets. There was nothing he could not help us with! He even gave us recommendations for Venice! Thank-you to all at The Grand Hotel Majestic. We will never stay anywhere else in Bologna!

Desk personnel was helpful, although a little smirk in the eye doesn't hurt anyone... Our room had a sub-par mattress in the parents' bed, and it felt one layer was lacking; my back still hurts after a week's holiday.

Cons: When purchasing the room it was stated “comes with spa bath”, on arrival there was no spa bath, we were then given another room with a spa bath, on checkout we were then asked to pay extra for bigger room. We refused and to be fair they waved the fee. Spa bath was not particularly great anyway, the bed was 2 beds pushed together, although most Italian hotels I have stayed in are like this.

Staff is typically not interested to you as a guest (nobody say you Hello, you can pass near the reception nobody welcomes you, in the breakfast area staff works like with objects etc.) Internet on the 3rd floor actually doesn't exist. I complain on the first day (Monday evening) at the reception, staff was rude and he wanted to quarrel with me. I asked to speak tomorrow with the management, nobody from management showed any interest etc.

Cons: This hotel has one serious thing to complain about which dramatically affects comfort of staying. Its air conditioning system doesn't work at all. The apparatus in the room blew out warm air which according to hotel staff was "no more than 25 C". In all other rooms I tried to change for the situation was identicall. It was very hard to stay in the room, it was very hard to sleep in it, no relief after coming from the street, considering that temperature in Bologna during my stay was up to 35 C, etc. It's pointless to discuss other things regarding comfort of staying if basic physiological conditions aren't met. Hotel staff provided poor explanation that the problem was because of the high temperature outside. However, at the reception air conditioning was good, shops in the buildings next to the hotel didn't experience any problems, and hotel in Agrigento where I stayed last year also had no problems with air conditioning though temperature was higher than 40 C. The situation didn't improve even after temperature in the city became around 27 C indicating hardware problems. The minor issue was that on one day maid didn't change the towels and just hanged again used ones and didn't do bath accessories refreshment. Don't recommend this hotel at all despite any its advantages. Luckily Bologna is small with plenty of choices.

Cons: The room was tiny and the balcony was covered in bird poo. The air con also didn't work well and the lowest room temperature we could achieve was 25C. The room fridge was also poor; very small and not very cold. The Spa was also a little disappointing, with the shower broken and the Turkish Bath not very hot, and running out of energy if you used the jacuzzi function more than twice.

Great location, easy to get around and if you take the 3 hr walking food tour (sooo worth the price) go HUNGRY because you won't be after and say hello to Caithleen, Her English is great and she is very personable and knowledgeable . We had a great time with her, felt like we were walking around town with a friend.

The lobby was bright and lovely, even the 20 min free internet was great as we used it to book our Ferrari tickets in Maranello. There were elevators for our upward climb to the third floor and the room was lovely. 50” tv on the wall with plenty to watch was great even in English so thanks for that. The beds were super comfortable and we definitely enjoyed the tea and coffee making facilities too. The safe was a help as we placed several items within it whilst we were away for the day at Ferrari and it was just a nice hotel experience.

These are the things I liked: 1) This hotel is right across the Bologna Centrale station. So if you intend to use Bologna as a base to travel to a the surrounding cities, this hotel is perfectly located. 2) Again because it's close to the station, there is a row of cafes and eateries right beside the hotel. The bar right beside the hotel is 24 hrs which I loved. 3) Breakfast is great. Lots of variety and the quality was good. 4) The property has a beautiful outdoor area, including a large garden where you can just lounge when you need a break or read a book with a drink. 5) The view from the room was perfect - Bologna central in all it's glory (I love train stations)

Lots of variety and the quality was good. 4) The property has a beautiful outdoor area, including a large garden where you can just lounge when you need a break or read a book with a drink. 5) The view from the room was perfect - Bologna central in all it's glory (I love train stations)
Cons: Two things bothered me: 1) I really hate having my towels changed daily because it's just SO bad for the environment. Despite having the do not disturb sign up, the staff came into the room while I was out and changed the towels (!!!) 2) The hotel's design is quite outdated. I.e. the lighting and switches in the room are has a "main" switch that seems to be from an older era. The shower area is a bathtub and shower combined with an awkwardly positioned shower-head and slippery tub. This can become a recipe for disaster; I nearly slipped a few times myself.

Pros: Great location as the city centre is only a 15 minute walk away. Room was very clean and towels, bathroom soaps and anything we had used from the minibar was all replaced every morning. Great restaurants nearby too. Staff were very helpful. Room wasnt the biggest but it had a huge bed and was very clean and modern. Would stay again 100%.

Calm hotel (it is nice and quiet inside rooms, no busy streets). Aircondition for free in room, sattelite tv, and free internet for one day. Comfortable beds. Quite big. Everyday cleaned, everyday new shampoo and soap. Very nice stuff. Free bikes (3). On Sunday free 2 hours walking tour in the historical center of Bologna. Around 15 mins walking from Piazza Maggiore. I was very satisfied.

Cons: The shower is so small, but the one thing I disliked the most was the shower head. Would be fantastic if they could add the handheld shower head and not just the rainfall one. Breakfast got a little boring after day 2. They advertise they have fantastic breakfast, but for us personally it looked a little lacking, then again we are not the coffee and croissant kind of people. And for the price payed the bathroom towels could be renewed.

Cons: The room was fine, but the blanket on the bed seemed old and not cleaned. The toilet was tiny with no space to move inside. In the toilet (without a window) there wasn't the ventilation system. The shower was small and I expected to find shampoo, conditioner and soap, but just few things available.

Cons: The bathroom is very small, it is hard to move or dress, but it is clean and good equipped, so it is not so bad if you do not spend there whole day ;) Everyday the same breakfast (the same dishes, after few days it is boring)
