The usual to make sure the you and they are on the same page and take pictures of the car yourself. I use think that being a bit over cautious.

Driving in Copenhagen is unlike driving in North America in that people are very courteous and polite on the road. Pedestrians and cyclists always have the right of way, and drivers don't get angry about it. When passing on the highway you do it quickly and come back into the right hand lane, you don't just drive in the fast lane for a long time. It was a real treat to drive in such a beautiful country, and the roads are so well maintained!

Check toll booths payment before your trip, some of them can be previously paid at the rental car company so you can save some time. Check how you will return the car, because they close the stores pretty early.

Good to rent a car if you'll be traveling outside Copenhagen. If you're staying in the city and nearby sites, better to rent bicycles or use public transportation.

It was not difficult to drive in Copenhagen, and the roads in Denmark are excellent.

As you're making your plans, it's essential to carefully review the cancellation policy. In addition, think about investing in travel insurance; this could provide coverage and peace of mind in case you encounter any unexpected hiccups along your journey.

Be sure and set clock when parking to avoid citations. Obey posted speed limits as they use roadside cameras to monitor speed

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Copenhagen
Copenhagen has a plethora of sights to offer, from the port, the aquarium, and the Museum of Zoology to the iconic Little Mermaid positioned on a rock. Having your own rental car during your stay in Copenhagen will not only provide ultimate flexibility and your own timeframe to explore the city, but also allow you to venture out into the scenic Danish landscape and find out why it is here where the happiest people on Earth live.
Start your journey to Copenhagen hassle-free and pick up a rental car conveniently upon landing at Copenhagen Airport. There is a car rental center located on-site and signs will indicate the way from the respective terminal. Companies like Avis, Europcar, or Sixt provide their vehicles for a smooth 20-minute ride into the city center. Upon driving out of the airport, look for the E20, which will bring you to the heart of Copenhagen.
Denmark and Copenhagen are very flat, so there is no uphill challenge when it comes to driving through the city. Public transport is also very well-structured within the city boundaries, so, when exploring Copenhagen, the rental car can also be left at the hotel or at a P+R to avoid driving through the city. When venturing out of the city into the countryside, the roads are broad and in good conditions, providing for a smooth driving experience.
Copenhagen can get lots of snow during the winter months, and it only has about 7 hours of daylight. Having on the headlights is a must, so that other drivers can see you, and adapting the speed to road and weather conditions is pivotal as snow and ice can cover the streets. Watch out especially in the morning hours, as plows may not have reached all corners of the city yet.
There are five times as many bicycles as cars on the road in Copenhagen, so it’s good to be aware of the rules regarding bikes when driving Copenhagen car rentals. Bikes have their own well-marked lanes on many city streets and roads without bike lanes are often narrow to slow the flow of traffic, making it safer for bikes and cars to share the road. When driving, always yield to bikes, use your turn signal when passing a bike in an area with no bike lane, and remember to check your blind spot for bikes before making a turn.
If you’re caught violating the traffic rules while driving in Denmark, you may be issued a ticket on the spot, with payment of the fine due upon receipt. If you’re unable to pay the fine immediately, you’ll be given a fast-track payment procedure to follow. Fortunately, many of Copenhagen’s traffic rules are similar to rules in the US. Drivers should follow the posted speed limits, avoid using hand-held devices while driving, yield to pedestrians and bicyclists, and stay within the marked lanes. Additionally, drivers and passengers are required to use their seat belts, including passengers riding in the back seats.
The most widely available cheap car rentals in Copenhagen are cars with manual transmission. If it’s been a while since you’ve driven a stick shift, you may want to brush up on your skills before leaving for your trip. However, if you need a car with an automatic transmission, most (if not all) car rental companies in Copenhagen have automatic cars in their fleet and allow you to make this selection when making your reservation. It’s a good idea to reserve your automatic rental car early, especially if you plan to travel in the peak months of July and August.

Value 5/5 Staff 5/5 Vehicle 1/5 The EV we rented was terrible. I see why it was so cheap to rent. The battery range was so inaccurate and terribly low. Maybe good for strictly city driving but we couldn’t even take a 2 hour road trip without having to make sure there was a charging station around because the battery was so bad. Really wouldn’t recommend the DS 3 Etense without a disclaimer.

Pro: The price was low and the people were great. Con: they need a much clearer set of directions to find the car pickup location in the nearby parking garage. I used the wrong door, and lost nearly an hour trying find my car. It drove even the employees crazy, since it wasnt where it should have been parked. This is temporary.
Wonderful ease of the rental. Great service and the car was so clean and better than expected. I got a small upgrade that was unexpected but very welcomed!

Pros:
The 'physical' aspects of the rental (car, cleanliness, price etc) were perfect.
Cons:
Beware if you're a woman, especially a foreigner. I booked a 5-door car and they tried to give me a 3-door: in the Copenhagen location the office is on the ground floor, and they send you to the basement parking alone to get your car. Once I realized they had given me a 3-door I went back up to ask for a change. The person serving me, Mr Ryan said 'no, you booked that category' 'we don't have any', when I pushed he said 'ok but you have to wait 30 minutes for us to clean a car' and then finally when I insisted and showed my booking on a my phone (of a 5-door car) they 'miraculously' had a 5-door car ready for me... When I returned the car 3 days later, they were doing the SAME to another foreign woman! Maybe they do this to everyone; either way, it left a sour taste in my mouth.
I never took the car because the instructions were not clear about having to have one debit card and one credit card. I don’t own a credit card. So I wasted my time travelling by train from Køge and never picked up the car. I paid for the car and I’m very disappointed that all of this happened . No car and no money back 😞

Was given a diesel car which we don’t want. It was filthy and we had to ask them to wash it before leaving. The price was more than what Experian quoted. It took nearly an hour to find where to return the rental car in Hamburg. They never answered their phones. Will not do business with this firm in the future.

Service was great but the insurance I bought through Kayak when I checked out wasn’t reflected there at the center. As such, I bought it twice which wasn’t a great experience. Why wouldn’t they see the collision and damage insurance I added when I checked out?

I never got the car. I got to the rental car company and they said that you made the wrong booking because it was for foreigners only and ended up wanting to charge me 10 times the booked price. It was a really disappointing experience. It also ruined my trip as I couldn’t make it to my destination and there was no refund due to being same day. I was standing in the middle of copenhagen on Friday at 5 pm, with no car. Kayak proved to be a really bad experience.
We bought full insurance coverage on the car. When we returned it, they found a small scratch on the bumper. We have received multiple emails from them to fill out an insurance form, threatening to cancel our coverage if we didn't return it. So we returned it. But they have sent it again. Unpleasant. Otherwise the rental was ok.

Cons:
We signed up for a deal through KAYAK that specified a certain price and that there is unlimited milage included. After the booking confirmation we got a call from Avis saying the deal is not possible and brought up different terms and conditions that we agreed on.
I saw an additional fee for cross-border travel that I had not expected and that was not explained to me. That is disappointing.

This was a disaster! The prices proposed are only valid if you are not resident in Denmark otherwise they are double. This is not clear on the website. I had to book last minute via another platform and of course this increased the costs. MAKE THIS CLEAR ON YOUR WEBSITE!

We got a much larger car than reserved, but it was very nice and new. Also came with a GOS at no extra charge.
I preordered a 5 series BMW and received a 3 series instead with the service person nonchalantly telling me that they are in the same category. If that is really the case, that is laughable! Also, when acalculating eveything together my 280$ order summary miraculously turned into an almost 1,000$ bill after he misquoted me on the insurance and wanted to cheekily add an extra day because I arrived 30 minutes early for pick up. Car was also not in a clean condition as I would expect it.

Little information provided by staff on electric vehicle charging stations, and only after asking. Turns out these stations are relatively few in the countryside, owned by different companies with different instructions for charging and payment. With these instructions often not available in English. Some stations are super slow, haver relatively few machines or are inoperable, as noted by their google ratings once sought. Will never rent an electric vehicle by Avis/Budget, especially in a foreign country.
