Dollar Rental changed my vehicle rental from. 15 passenger van to a mini van without notification!!! I even drove 1.5 hrs to confirm I was getting a Ford Transit 15 passenger van a week prior to pick up. When I arrived on the day of rental they said I had rented a minivan! I showed the email proof of the Ford Transit. They said I could have that for $500 more!!! The finally gave me an old 12 passenger Chevy van that was very uncomfortable to travel 3,800 miles in over the holidays. Both managers blamed others for the mistakes made and were put out that I wanted what I paid for and reserved. I'll never do business with them again.

I didn't appreciate the "nickle and diming"; the final price was almost 3 times what was advertised with all the added fees and taxes etc. They should be far more transparent with the final cost to the customer. Staff are upselling to the benefit of the business and not necessarily that of the customer. I was offered a transponder but after closer inspection it would have been cheaper for me to pay for the tolls. This was very disappointing; I recommend better training and customer sensitivity workshops.

The pickup experience was horrendous, took almost 2.5 hours. The initial check-in line was extremely long. Once check-in was completed and instructed to go to lower floor to pickup car, you had to find an employee to put your name on a waitlist. The system was chaotic and unorganized. The entire process took 2.5 hours, I was late to meet friends for lunch and delayed my entire schedule. I was only in town for a night and required me to make alternate arrangements. Lastly, I was billed incorrectly and charged for refueling, even though I returned it at the same level I took the car.

Electronic checkin allowed us to avoid the desk with the long line and get to our selected car directly from baggage claim. Team members walked the car with us taking photos before we left then emailed them to us. It kept everything very transparent.

Had a problem with pick-up. Got the text of which car to grab (in a specific parking spot) and was confirmed via text and email. When we tried to leave the check out person said he had no record of my reservation and no link to that car. So, it took a very long time to depart airport. Also, car was not very clean.

I think the company is ridiculous. Only 3/4 quarters of a tank of gas a they considered that full . I was hit with a ton of BS hidden fees . The car for the money was a disgrace . You can’t get ahold of anyone from customer service. I was highly disappointed an will probably never tonite hertz again unfortunately.

I ended up paying almost double the prepaid amount. Much of that is my fault for forgetting car seats but hidden fees made up the rest. Getting the car was also a hassle as there was a mix up between what car I was assigned and what was in the actual spot. The staff person was not particularly kind in assisting me.

We waited in line for pickup for over an hour, having reserved and paid for our rental in advance. If we hadn't already paid, we would have never waited in that line and would have gone with a different company (perhaps the one without a line). BUDGET= excruciating line. Once an agent opened, we were done in 5 minutes. It's a hard NO for Budget.

I tried to cancel my reservation less than 24 hour's after booking and I was told I booked a non refundable car. They have very strict policies and would not refund me for the car. I had to pay for it, even though I couldn't go on my trip. So disappointing, I cried. Renters beware!!!

I tried 4 different cars because each car had an issue. Two cars reeked of smoke, one had a smashed in back fender, and the last had sand and trash all over the floor board including 11 used water and soda bottles strewn around the interior of the car. The Avis agents were accommodating in switching cars but it was a terrible experience having to walk back and forth to the counter and car each time. It took over an hour to finally get into a car. They also didn’t escalate to a manager until I asked for one when we pulled the car up to show them all of the trash. The manager was very friendly and helpful. He apologized for the trouble. The return was challenging as well. The signage was poorly done. I parked in one of the designated return spots and followed signs up 8 flights of stairs to the rooftop to find that I had been misdirected. I walked back downstairs and ultimately found the return desk on the ground floor. The agent asked me where I parked and told me I had to move the car the rooftop. I told her the signs directed me to park in the designated spots side the garage which were clearly marked as Avis return spots but she insisted I move and that the car was now late. She said the signs were wrong and need to be removed. When I expressed displeasure with the poor signage and waste of time the agent told me I could call customer service. I had to go back upstairs and drive the car all the way to the top of the garage. The process was inefficient and frustrating.

I will never rent from this company again. They get you in the fine print with their insane insurance requirements, forcing you to purchase their coverage which is 3x the cost of the rental. They are also poorly located about 20 min from the rental car terminal at the airport. When they drop you off, they do not take you to the departures terminal, so you have to take another team.

Cons:

The vehicle was very basic. This wasn't really a problem based on our needs and we did choose economy, but I can't think of anything else that could have been better- other than maybe price but I realize this is a supply/demand issue.
