Didn’t get the car I requested (was relying on AWD since I had to go over a few mountain passes). They were short staffed so I elected not to have it cleaned. To make up for that they said they’d mark the gas tank as empty so I wouldn’t have to return full, which the receiving office didn’t honor. (They said someone with Enterprise would call to straighten that out since they really want satisfied customers. They didn’t call). I bought the extra insurance for three days but didn’t get refunded a portion since I brought it back a day early. All around not so great.

We had a prepaid, confirmed car rented. They did not have a car for us. They refused to provide us compensation or another car. Very little in the way of explanation, and no apology. They didn’t even want to give us a refund on the spot. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Put our entire vacation in jeopardy. Never again.

Pros:

Staff was friendly, and got a great rate by not renting from the airport. Drop off was easy.

Cons:

The pickup/drop off location left something to be desired. 6th floor of a dark, old, parking garage that wasn’t especially well-lit. The main entrance was closed due to COVID and we had to use the back door to the elevator lobby. I could see someone, such as a young female alone, feeling quite uneasy about the location.

Pros:

The car was nice and a good deal concerning the other prices by other rental companies. The associate the checked us in was very accommodating.

Cons:

When I originally booked through kayak I entered sea tac airport as my pick up and drop off location. I never confirmed and looked up the address of the Thrifty location because I assumed it would be at the airport that I entered. I got on the shuttle to the car rental terminal where I had to wait in line for an hour because there were so many guests arriving and only two associate working. When it was my turn the associate informed me I went to the wrong thrifty so I had to take the shuttle back to the airport then the train to downtown Seattle where the Thrifty I rented from actually was. I would recommend a much stronger and noticeable alert that the location of this thrifty is not at the airport. I found it says that is small writing randomly in the second email I got. It needs to be more noticeable while booking the car.

Cons:

Seattle pick-up location closes at 12P. I arrived a little late for my 12P pick-up, did not receive my car, yet I was charged for the full ten day rental contract. So far after two weeks Thrifty has been unwilling to negotiate.

Supplier choice

The car was clearly a former Uber with the permit and "this ride might be recorded" stickers. Something oily was sprayed on the inside of the windshield making it very hard to see and when I tried to clean it it got streaky and worse- I used Windex and then a kitchen cleaner and it was still difficult to see through the streaks to the point where it was unsafe. The car also had paint pen writing on the rear drivers side window which I had to scrape off. The interior smelled like someone tried really hard to cover up stale smoke.

Supplier choice

Their team were understaffed, under supplied and crabby at pickup. There was a noticeable deficit of “normal” cars, and they were often trying to convince people who had booked economy to take a mini van. On return I needed to adjust by 30 minutes to accommodate flex in a travel schedule, and their phone staff were dismissive and rude. They charged me a silly fee, despite the fact that when I arrived, the location was CLOSED, so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. I will NOT be using Hertz again.

I don’t like that hertz said they would rent a car to me with a pick up time of 12:00pm even though they close at 12:00pm on Saturdays and refuse to service anyone who comes after noon. YES, I was a few minutes late to pick up my car that I reserved for pickup up at 12pm but WHY would they even let me pick a check in time that was the same as when they stop working??? Why not set the latest pick up time 30 minutes before closing????? Why hertz??? 🙁
