10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was excellent. Food was wonderful. Private onsen was clean and quiet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved that it was very clean and quiet.
Cons: I loved everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very Japanese breakfast for westerns. Outdoor spa rooms were beautiful, however tub itself could have been skimmed for bugs before we enter.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive during my stay, and the mini onsen in my room was so relaxing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unbelievable experience from start to finish. The kaiseki service was exceptional - a meal of the highest quality. Staff were friendly, attentive but not overbearing. The room was fantastic and authentic. The games room and private onsen were the icing on the cake. A perfect romantic getaway.
Cons: Nothing of note - wonderful stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything is great! You are in the middle of the nature and feel the vibe since minute one. The staff is very friendly and the facilities outstanding. Both the public onsen and the private ones are great. We had one in our room which was a great plus. The dinner was excellent as well!!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing ryokan surrounded by nature in Hakone. It is isolated from town, but I found it was better that way, in order to relax and enjoy the comfort of the hotel. Plus the bus from the Odawara station stops right next to it, just 3mn walking. It is an expensive place, but worth it. Attentive staff, very comfortable, fantastic dinner and breakfast, perfect room with private outdoor onsen. The public indoor and outdoor onsen are very nice too. Since there is an option of renting privately for 45mn the outdoor onsen (that was probably the highlight of the stay), probably next time I would go for a cheaper room with indoor onsen.
Cons: It is a bit too expensive
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The room was beautiful and the peach aperitif before dinner was divine. Other then that read below. Wasn’t the experience I was expecting.
Cons: The food was extremely disappointing... bland and not fresh. They served cold tempura and over cooked fish. I was traveling with my father in-law who is a Japanese gentleman and he was very surprised by the lack of service and odd food choices. I’ve traveled a lot in japan and this was not Ryokan service! We had to go to the restaurant to eat instead of having our keiseki meal served in our room. $1200.- for severely mediocre food and service. We made a reservation for the private Onsen and were rudely and repeatedly told “only 45 min!” For 1200 dollars I expect to not be told by rude staff that there is a limit. On top of the rude staff and mediocre food we had to trudge to the front desk to pick up a key for everything. How about brining the key to our room... since we made a reservation! All in all... don’t waste your time or money. And if you do go, bring your own food as you will go hungry here if you don’t.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, open bar, great food, generous portions and inexpensive wine
Cons: View was not very interesting.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The generous sized rooms, comfortable clean bedding and the delicious dinner and breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. The Japanese style bedroom we had was great and with a nice view. Awesome to have onsen in the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed was great! Had the best sleep ever :)
Cons: Not much restaurant near the area.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing old Japanese style house. Staff was so helpful with the activities to do around. Thank you!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The onsen and the Nice location near the countryside. The staff/owner is extremely kind. I loved the food they have here too, I had the lasagne. Excellent price for such a tasty meal!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fully equipped kitchen + private onsen!
Cons: Nothing (dinner options not amazing but totally ok)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, super comfy futon, spacious room, and best of all room included use of the onsens which were indoor and private. Perfect if you want the experience but arent ready for public nudity or have tattoos. We regretted not getting the breakfast, make sure you get it cause if you're staying in the area you'll find nothing open till after 10am. The onsens were perfect too. It was so easy to get to too! Close to the Gora station.
Cons: I had no issue with anything, but things people who are extra picky might consider: squeaky floors (its a traditional building, probably been there a hot minute) and there are some spiders (large ones) in a few dark corners (you're surrounded by nature sooooo yeah unavoidable)
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Too much noise after 10 pm in the dorm rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place. Two private onsens and near to Gora station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the onsen! Very cosy place in the evening :)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great, staff was very fun and helpful. Facilities were amazing, onsen was very nice.
Cons: The only thing I could say, more time in the onsen during the day would be nice.. maybe earlier morning hours for those folks who don't sleep in very well :).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very helpfull The onsen is perfect Bus station very close
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a short walk to town so very convenient. The bus route was also very nearby
Cons: The bus times finished very early and this made it difficult to get back to the hostel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location
Cons: Cleanliness and friendly Staff ‘s
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were great and the views from the communal space are absolutely breathtaking. The staff are knowledgeable and the kitchen facilities are super good. Everywhere is spotlessly clean.
Cons: The room smelt like old feet and there is a restriction on the showers and Onsen. You can't use the showers between 11.00am - 3.00pm so if you fancy a lazy morning you're screwed - I had to sneak into the closed Onsen past the staff just to have a wash.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredible friendly and helpful. The hostel is so beautifully clean and far exceeded our expectations. The bed was really comfy and the onsens onsite were really picturesque and fun. 100% happy and 100% would recommend. Having morning coffee on the little balcony in the midst of the mountains was a perfect moment.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great place, so beautiful! Loved the onsens and the balcony. Friendly people, everything was perfectly clean! Would highly recommend
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I highly recommend this hotel to Hakone visitors. First, the location is good. The place is close to Yumoto station, and it only takes 10 minutes of bus. Second, the room is cozy. We stayed in a room that is good for four people, Tatami and futon were comfortable and good for sleeping. Third, the Onsen(hot spring) is warm and relaxing. The only that need to be aware of is the time of using outdoor hot spring. Four, the lounge in 1st floor is good if visitors like to stay at Hakone for vacation, and want to cook.
Cons: The only thing I felt like this hotel could improve is the lounge in 1st floor is too small, we had to wait for people finished. I hope the lounge could get larger space.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was immaculate, the staff were really friendly and I couldn’t believe the value for money!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The thing I liked most was the onsen, one inside and the other one outdoors, depending on the time. The spaces were well taken care of and the staff was so friendly!
Cons: It is a little bit far away from the station, but no more than 10 minutes walking.
Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa - Hakone - Building
6
9.0 Excellent (1,204 reviews)
C$ 576+
Overview Reviews
Located within the Fuji Hakone Izu National Park, 80km west of Tokyo. This residential lodge is located in Fuji and is situated in an area (Gora) famous for its natural hot springs (onsens). The resort's on-site spa has 8 treatment rooms available as well as two hot spring baths, one for ladies and one for men.
7.0 Good
Pros: We liked the view and the friendly staff, particularly the trainee staff member from Guam. The free shuttle was great and much appreciated.
Cons: I felt the lounge area looked very tired and I was cold on one occasion. One evening we ordered club sandwiches. The toast was cold which made the sandwich unappealing. We treated ourselves to dinner in the restaurant. The hot side dishes were delivered well before our main course and were cold by the time our steak or chicken arrived. For the price, I would expect much better timing. The other issue was that there were very few places to eat nearby. Overall, we felt that the price for the room and food was too high.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Really nice hotel, rooms are really large and comfortable. we are a family of 5 and we took 2 rooms, but they are large enough to squeeze 4 people in. Service is amazing, there is always someone to welcome you in, everyone speaks English . I also liked the shuttle service. Hakone is a region and not a city , as such you need to move around in order to see the attractions, the shuttle service to take us to the nearest station or outdoor museum was very useful. the hotel has a great western and Japanese restaurants. we only ate the western restaurant. Prices are similar to what you will pay in Australia or on your Fijian holiday ($150 a family for dinner) but the standard and service are really high. Open bar everyday from 4-7pm is really nice to have. we are not big drinkers , but its a nice have. The hot spa in the hotel was great, personally I find it unusual to bath naked , which is the Japanese tradition, but when I went to use it around 8pm, I was the only person in the spa.
Cons: Loved everything. I would have loved to have a bath/spa on the balcony. The balcony is large enough to accomodate this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Free drinks from 4-7pm daily!!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast and afternoon beverages. Spa was amazing
Cons: Paid for a mountain view room and was kindly upgraded to a bigger room. But the tree outside the massive window meant we could see no mountains. Beds were amazing although 2 together made separately isn’t really the same as having a king bed to share.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Onsen very clean, all the staff are all very helpful, cozy atmosphere, room size really big
10.0 Excellent
Cons: No free breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful decor, wonderful staff! They had a daily free drink happy hour in the living room. They offered shuttles to both go and be picked up from public transportation.
Cons: I wish they had a better moderate dining option. We had lunch and dinner in the upscale western restaurant. Food was good but pricey. Glasses of wine started at over $20. You could get casual food in the living room, but the menu was very limited and food was just ok.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large and airy room with all comforts, great view over the mountains, outstanding service, cosy lounge/bar, nice free drinks in the afternoon.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality, quality services, room cleanliness, breakfast buffet, drink service after arrival, shuttle bus service
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Free cocktail hours. The room was huge, the amenities were great. The onsen was beautiful. Free shuttle to/from Odawara.

With a stay at FUKUZUMIRO in Hakone (Tonosawa), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hakone Hot Springs and Hakone Kowakien Yunessun. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff! Loved Yuriko!
Cons: I loved but I’m Japanese American and very familiar with the culture. Foreigners didn’t seem as respectful of the conventions of a ryokan.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Have dinner, have a soak in a Onsen and experience Japanese hospitality at is best. This was an incredible experience and if you were thinking about staying in an Ryokan - splurge the cash and stay in this one!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you aren't sure whether or not to stay at a ryokan - DO IT! You won't regret it. This was one of the best experiences I had while travelling in Japan. Fukuzumiro was easy to find (quick bus from the train station) and I was warmly greeted by the staff. The inn is old but well kept and gives you a true traditional experience. The onsen was relaxing and peaceful, I went once before dinner and once in the morning the next day. For dinner, the staff prepared me an amazing vegetarian multi-course meal. Probably the best meal I've had in my life. The woman assisting me was so helpful and kind, and even though I can't speak Japanese, she spoke enough English to help explain things to me. She even walked me to the bus stop the next morning and made sure I took the right one. I highly recommend staying at Fukuzumiro in Hakone!
Cons: NA
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent traditional experience. Would highly suggest making a stop to Hakone and Fukuzumiro.
Cons: The dinner is very traditional. Enjoyed my stay at Fukuzumiro but would probably pass on the dinner next time.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: As expected. Old building with wooden floors and authentic traditional Japanese rooms. The staff was extremely friendly and went beyond their way to explain everything to us in detail and make us feel as comfortable as possible. There is both public (separate for men and women) and private (accessible by everyone) onsen. We tried the private one. It was a bit small but it was definitely clean and offered everything required for a relaxing and true experience. Food is served in the room. We didn’t try the breakfast (had to leave before 7am) but the management offered us a discount for the 5-course optional dinner instead (costs ¥5.000 per person). We opted for the dinner and it was delicious. Our room was overlooking the inner pond with koi fish and we could hear the relaxing river sounds in the night. Rooms are equipped with anti-mosquito device and a fan to make your stay more comfortable if you visit Japan during the hot and humid period of June-July.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Traditionnel ryokan, friendly and helpful staff even though limited English.
Cons: In the village restaurants close early, most around 6pm. You can eat at the ryokan, but this is very expensive.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The service was outstanding, and the location along a roaring river was perfect. The building was wonderful old-style, but the two rock ofuro were a bit on the rough side, though the one wooden one was great. I went for the Japanese breakfast, and I thought it was excellent. It was a pleasant, 15-minute walk to shops, restaurants, and the train station. All in all, this was a great place!
Cons: Maybe the two rock ofuro could be updated, or better yet, changed to wood, but I wasn't disappointed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Ryokan experience
Cons: Property older and not kept up well. It reminded me of summer camp
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner experience was fantastic
Cons: Sharing of toilet facilities
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is super nice, food is excellent, and you get a beautiful river view from your room.
Hakone Hostel1914 - Hakone - Building

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Hostel is a very nice and historic building. You have to accept thin walls, but it is a really nice house. The kitchen is small, but has all you need. In the small village you have two convenient stores and some restaurants. Bus and train stations are nearby. It is a 30 min bus ride to lake ashi. You can start hiking trips from the hostel. The staff member we met was very kind, showed us the best spots and even offered to take us to a firefly spot nearby. Very welcoming! She even upgraded us to a better and private room. Thank you again :) We would definitely book again!
Cons: Shower wasn't on the same floor. Thin walls. Kitchen could be a bit bigger. But all in all no problem.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was easy to found even if a bit away from the center but the view on the was worth. The staff is gentle and helpful
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The manager, Kana, is very friendly. She provided us great hospitality. Clean toilet and bathroom. Close to Miyanoshita Station.
Cons: A bit disappointed with the double room as it does not have air-corn with only a tiny fan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff!! Very kind and helpful. Allowed me to check in three hours before time since she was there when I arrived, and then proceeded to help me get a Hakone Free Pass and drove me to Lake Ashi in her car. Also great facilities and great location.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely helpful with everything! The building was old and very beautiful. The room was okay to stay in for a couple of nights and there is a big common area in which you can eat, drink and relax.
Cons: The room had no a/c, but that was only temporarily.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very helpful with everything. He recommended us an onsen, some things to visit etc. Very clean and cosy. Very comfortable. There are lots of buses to visit the main things around the area.
Cons: You have to take the bus to visit the main attractions.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The cleaness and owner are friendly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the friendliness of the staff. she carried my luggages to my room upstairs
7.0 Good
Pros: The hospitality was very nice. The hostel has its charm as it was a post office 100 years ago, and I feel it has a lot of potential. It was a nice change from the other hostels we stayed at on our trip.
Cons: Hakone in general seems a little bit pricey compared to other places we visited, so along with that, came a higher price for the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host Kana was truly incredible and kind and was always there to make reservations and give tips or help with any problems. I want to thank her for making this an amazing and relaxing stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the restaurant, room, and public osen were nice and relaxing to see
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: As a frequent traveler, I have stayed all fancy luxury hotels world wide , no hotels would charge me extra money for twenty minutes late check out , I just wasn’t aware of time and all I ask is 20 minutes more.... Not to mention my family ask for milk at the lobby, they were informed that milk is free only for 4th floor customers. they also being told 11:30 check out is for 4 th floor customers only. We understand that the fourth floor rooms are more expensive. But please don’t forget that we are also your customers. We also pay more than one thousand us dollars per night per room!!!!!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff delivered one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. They exceeded all expectations. They also pay attention to so many details and the little things that make you feel like royalty. For example, a member of the staff greeted us even before we walked up to the front entrance. There must be a camera as you cross the bridge to access the grounds. They must have seen us coming because there was someone waiting for us right there offering to take our bags. We were ushered into a waiting area looking out into their beautiful garden where we were offered welcome drinks and treats. Our room was beyond comprehension. Everything we needed was in there. Shaving kit, robes, a smartphone that offer d FREE international calling, Bluetooth speaker, amazing toiletries, an onsen/hot tub on our balcony, traditional Japanese wardrobe for dinner & breakfast and SO much more.
Cons: Although an amazing experience, I'm not convinced it's worth $1k/night. No early check-in which means a max of 20 hours for each night of stay. The location, although beautiful, isn't easy to get to.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service. Excellent food an private onsen a real treat
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is quite pricy, but for a reason. Super authentic Japanese style and perfect service. The open-air in-room hot spring tub gives you a perfect view and tranquility of bamboos and trees. Bed is HUGE. You can wear the kimono PJ while in the hotel, pretty immersive experience. The public hot spring cannot be reserved for single group use, but it is open for quite long hours, and you can easily find private time to enjoy. Kaiseki breakfast is spectacular and very fulfilling. You won't regret if you need to save money just for that one night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen, the bed and the dinner were amazing
Cons: The checking process was not super well structured and the staff was not smooth
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the privacy and the relaxation aspects. The staff were so respectful and actually anticipated my needs before I articulated them. The room was enormous, well stocked and so comfortable.
Cons: The only thing I can think of, and it is minor, is that some staff had poor English and could not understand what we were asking. But this didn’t detract from the stay and they went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed in the end.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Food, location, service, shuttle directly to the hotel from Hakone-Yumoto station.
Cons: Price might be a little high, but superb food, service and room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious room with great facilities - tea/coffee machine, bar fridge, music system. Private onsen on the balcony and connecting glass door straight into the shower. Quiet and comfortable. Free shuttle to station in Hakone.
Cons: Nothing to dislike!

Cons: The breakfast was very average
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff are nice and helpful. The hotel has a nice ambience
Cons: Hotel restaurant has limited seats for the people checked in at the hotel. It causes inconvenience for late check ins.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and serene. Beautiful garden. Love the hot spring bath in our room. Room was spacious, clean and bed was comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Well managed facility with friendly staff. In room and communal onsen are excellent and meticulous!
Cons: Location is best accessed by self driving, although a shuttle is available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The kindess of the staff was super! Very nice people and very helpfull. We lost an suitcase in a bus and they did everything they could to help us. the hotel was clean, with a nice onsen outside. Everything was clean.
Cons: I cant think of anything what i didn't like.
6.8 Good
Pros: I liked the outdoors area, very pretty. Room with personal hot spring was nice. The toiletries were nice, each person got a little bag of toiletries.
Cons: Definitely not worth the money. The hot springs area was ok. No extra touches. They had 3 beat up massage chairs outside and an area you could get massage but they were tables in open area blocked by a sheet. No gym. No use of hot springs if you have tattoos (Japanese culture, not really hotel’s fault). Food was ok.
5.5 Okay
Pros: SPA and Onsen facilities as well as breakfast
Cons: Not a great option for a family with children. We had the deluxe room with tatami area and the sleeping option for the kids with a rather thin mattress on the floor was not great. The price is really high to sleep on the floor. The room price is above 600 euro and not worth the room. The onsen in the room and SPA was good though. The breakfast was also good. Almost everything was in Japanese and the staff spoke little english but definitely tried.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the spa in the hotel and the prices are reasonable.
Cons: If they can add more options to the western breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food, staff, room all exceeded expectations
Cons: A bar may have been nice
5.0 Okay
Pros: The window
Cons: Have mites in bed Very old facility with wrapper renovation Breakfast was not good Not worth the price, can get better place at same price Near to road and noisy
5.5 Okay
Pros: The staff were very nice and were eventually accommodating when we told them that we need to shorten our stay.
Cons: We stayed in one of the suites with private onsen. The room was nowhere near the quality you would expect from a 4 star hotel, more like a 2/low 3 star in Europe or the US and definitely not what you would expect for £330 a night, even in Japan. Very old and tired furniture, mould in the shower, no mosquito screens between the onsen, shower and the bathroom. We could not get a good night's sleep because the ceiling fans that are meant to be kept on all night were rattly and noisy, and mosquitoes were flying about. The private onsen was in a tiny room with a window overlooking an ugly building opposite (we were on the 2nd floor). Japanese breakfast was almost inedible. Yes we are European and maybe our palates are not completely aligned to Japanese flavours, but we love Japanese cuisine and we've enjoyed most other meals we've had in Japan. We had to cut our stay short and move to the nearby Hyatt, which is much better value for money and a much nicer hotel in every way.
7.5 Good
Pros: Personal onsen in the room Staff speaks fluent English Special sauce for salad during dinner was really tasty Private onsen available
Cons: Cleanliness was an issue Room was not properly ventilated Insects found in corners of onsen area No public onsen
9.5 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
7.0 Good
Pros: Own Onsen was great. Bedding was very comfortable. Room size very large. Very quiet.
Cons: We had expected more from the food. The dinner was certainly ok but not overwhelming. Breakfast (japanese) was also ok. The whole hotel, while nice is a little dated.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Had a wonderful stay - open air tub in the bathroom was amazing. Enjoyed the dinner and breakfast as well.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The service was amazing! The staff was super accommodating, even bringing our dessert to our room so my kids and I had time to experience the onsen. We enjoyed the nice meals, the scenic view, and the traditional Japanese touches. It was a great experience for my whole family.
Cons: Everything was great! We weren’t sure how to order the coffee so more specific instructions on that would have been helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our room was very spacious and was a nice treat after the tiny rooms of Tokyo. The staff were very nice and helpful and the food was good. Enjoyed the private onsen included in the price.
Cons: -
9.5 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, good location near the Gora station. The stuff was very friendly. It is a nice Ryokan with great onsen that become private at night.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were exceptional. Good command of English and no difficulties with understanding. Breakfast and dinner were included. They were able to cope with one vegetarian and one vegan with no problems. The food we got was abundant and tasty. Private onset easy to book and very refreshing. They seemed genuinely sad to see us go. Big hugs from all the staff and pats from the dog. Highly recommend
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a nice stay. The staffs are very hospitality. Strong recommend to family trip. The mountain View is significant.

Pros: Good dinner buffet
Cons: Connecting balconies are too long
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff and great Onsen
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location with amazing view
Cons: Restaurant ‘buffet’ is quite manic, which does spoil the atmosphere somewhat
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was well located on the lake. There were some really nice views. It was a newer property and the Western style room we were in was quite comfortable.
Cons: It's not a traditional Ryokan so it was disappointing to find out the dinner was served buffet style and personally I found it to be mediocre as did my family. We were hoping for a coursed dinner like a traditional Ryokan. This felt more mass market and was hectic. The private Onsen in our room was quite small. The room itself was very comfortable but for the nightly rate it wasn't worth it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Scenery was beautiful! Staff were helpful and nice.
Cons: Dining room was too noisy. Towels were poor quality. Pillows were too hard.
9.3 Excellent

Pros: Very good experience stay in the hotel. Great location. The dinner was so delicious and beautiful. The room was clean and bed comfortable.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good; fresh fruit, egg and toast. Good coffee. Staff excellent: the manager Astu booked us a great place for dinner because he was worried that restaurants might be booked up. The downstairs bedrooms lead on to a large lining room so it’s like having an en suite living area. Place gives good access to lake, Paolo art museum, outdoor museum. We really recommend this place if you want to see Hakone.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! In fact this July was our second time to stay at Mount View, and we plan to come back and stay here for the autumn season. The location is unbeatable -- close to many attractions and there's a bus stop right across the hotel. The staff is helpful. The food -- it was like having a individual buffet set for each guest. Loved the little Japanese sweet treats they serve on a pretty dish every day. The futon beds, yukatas, dinner jackets, toe socks and small towels --- everything is always perfect!
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The dinner, they presented good, but nothing tasty.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is such a great value for what you get especially since lodging in Hakone can get expensive. Amazing traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. The public hot spring was really relaxing and soothing. The staff were all wonderful and accommodating. Many of them spoke several languages including English, Chinese, and Korean. Bus stop right in front of hotel for easy access to train stations and major attractions. There’s a Lawson convenient store about a minute walk from the property.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was great and private onsen was fantastic. There is BBQ spot near the lake. You should try.
Cons: English service was provided before 9.p.m

Pros: Good location and service, friendly staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. The location was amazing - very close to the train station, could walk to the Hotel - just a couple of blocks. Central to the Town Centre and within walking distance to walking trails in beautiful surroundings.
Cons: The property is an older property which we expected from other reviews, but very clean and great value for the money spent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location. We had the Japanese style breakfast and dinner included which we enjoyed. The public baths were nice with both an indoor bath and an open air to the outside public baths. There was parking on site which was convenient.
Cons: Dinner serving time period is fixed and there was no booking.com option to book the first night without dinner which we could not take advantage of since we would arrive after dinner time. The bathroom and the in room bathtub and shower are rather small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great hotel! well located, with a traditional Japanese experience (design, food and onsen!)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A ryokan experience I expect. A view from my room balcony and private outdoor onsen was fantastic. Hotel location is very good 1 min. walk from hakone-umoto station and close to river.
Cons: I reserve room with outdoor onsen tub on balcony and it more expensive than normal room but it just on second floor. When I use the onsen tub at early evening, I hear voice from people how walk pass my room on river side and feel not private. Another thing, my room was next to a breakfast room. In early morning, it's very noisy from staff how setup room and prepare a breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location looking over the river in Hakone. The meals were a wonderful traditional experience. My room was so relaxing and gorgeous with my own private hot tub. The public bath was well designed and very inviting with a lovely view of the river.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is next to the river. We have a river view in our room. The Kaiseki was amazing. The onsen would have been better scheduled in the morning to better enjoy the view. Will definitely come back!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was absolutely gorgeous! The staff all very kind! And everything was super comfy! The location is right by a beautiful river with falls and you can see and hear the roar of the river from the onsen and if you open your window. It's also very close to the Hakone-Yumoto Station that gives you access to everywhere. Keep in mind when traveling though, that last buses and trains stop right around 5 pm and so you have to be headed back to Hakone Yumoto around 3-4 pm to get back before buses/trains stop.
Cons: The building had a bit of a smell to it and seemed to be quite old with some tilted stairs.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location. Hot spring. Breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff was really nice, room with the onsen was nice and location great
Cons: Well se chose to sleep on futons, so not a problem with the Hotel. Seems we have slept almost too confortamble in our home because now my back and hips were hurting so bad that I kept waking up.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is nice. Amazing facilities and incredible onsens. Lovely staff and really great food. But the best part are the kimonos set they offer to the guest to walk around the hotel.
Cons: Nothing to deslike there
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Have lived in different higher class ryokans around Hakone-sumitomo and Gora areas. Gora Kadan is the best experience I have ever had. The ryokan is built largely of wooden. The long corridor at lobby floor with wooden foldable doors on both side look fantastic. All the wooden structure and furnitures are well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. I booked 2 rooms, one with private hot spring. The outdoor hotspring is built like a garden. Looks really nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. This time, I travelled with my kids and also my mother. The hotel arranged a private dining room with higher chairs for us so that my mom could sit comfortably for the meals. Also, as my mom has to walk very slowly, we were late for some scheduled activities like dinner and breakfast. The staff was patient and waited for us politely. On the day we check out, it was a rainy date, they use two Benz luxury saloons to drive us to the train Station. The food is of very good quality. We have both sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu for the dinner. The kids are served with kids menu. While the starter and main course are delicious, the desert is also awesome - a hollow orange filled with orange jelly, an artwork in addition to its good taste. The facilities are good. My kids enjoyed the warm swimming pool very much (they really like to swim). Towels are ready for use at swimming pool side. My wife and I enjoyed the Kadan Spa, a relaxing experience. All in all, a very memorable experience for my family.
Cons: Suggest the swimming pool can open for kids at earlier time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful experience nice food and people
Cons: Expensive and time of check in and check out is very streight 15 true 11
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Place was beyond amazing from the architecture to the food and just the whole experience actually!!! You really felt like you were transported in time. Love the complimentary kimono outfits too. Staff was incredibly nice and offered impeccalbe service! The traditional food being serviced in the room was such a wonderful, unique dining experience. My kids were so happy here too! Most unique hotel experience ever!
Cons: Toilet room had a slight smell but that could have been the sulfer smell from the hot springs maybe... Bed was also not very comfortable but I know that the low profile "futon" style is to make it look more traditional Japanese style but I would suggest they use a cool/breathable memory foam mattress type instead.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Private dinning in room - Excellent variation of dinner dishes and service. The private bath is also an experience you shouldn't miss.
Cons: maybe the resting rooms after the hot baths could be bit bigger
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely breathtaking property with amazing service. The dinner served in room was out of this world and a real experience. The public baths were a must also. Would be silly to miss out on these
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The attendant, staff, service, room, facilities and environment were fantastic.
Cons: The kaiseki dinner was abit underwhelming.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Uniquely mountainlike retreat. Superior location and amenities! Beautiful room and lobby.
6.8 Good
Pros: We had an open air bath in our room which was amazing. Our room was spacious and very clean. The yukata was really fun and an unexpected treat! You aren’t allowed shoes inside the property which made the whole experience authentic.
Cons: The bed was hard and the pillows were not comfortable. There wasn’t a lot around the hotel, and we struggled to find other places to eat. The dinner at the hotel was expensive and there wasn’t much variety. They only had a Japanese breakfast which was interesting but not always what we wanted!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view from the room.
Cons: Nobody told me the hotel was 25 minutes up in a mountain (which cost $58.60 to get to). Nothing around the hotel, so we had to pay whatever they asked for dinner which ranged between $58, $68 and $88. In total it cost us more than $800 for that one night. We didn’t get to see Mt. Fuji , the only reason we wanted to stay in Hakone.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room and bathroom. Lovely onsen experience. One of the cleanest hotels I have stayed at. A quiet hotel even though clearly child friendly. The guests were very respectful. Good choice for breakfast.
Cons: Difficult to walk to when the cable car has stopped running. A good walk uphill from the station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The private bath was excellent, the room was top notch, the breakfast was true Japanese style, the hotel is highly recommended.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The in-room ofuro was amazing. Staff are so helpful and nice. Wonderful ryokan. Hope to visit again. Next time, we'll be sure to call for a pick up from the Gora station from the station itself or the info desk at the station.
Cons: Didn't know they would pick us up at the station. This was my fault, however. Therefore the walk there from the station was quite the workout.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really delicious breakfast, very relaxing onsen inside the room. Also, the hotel is very clean and comfortable. The bed very nice to sleep in.
Cons: The private onsen could have been a little bit bigger so you could fit 2 people into it.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The position is nice and the entrance hall, also the architecture from outside
Cons: All the internal areas give a sensation of fake , especially the rooms: laminated plastic instead of wood, spot light, it seems that they wanted to create a traditional effect with poor materials ... very strange. Then, the rooms are very poor: nothing in the minibar, no slippers, very anonimous welcoming. In the onsen you should take your own towels because there are no towels there! For the price they ask, service and environment are definetly not good enough.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Updated hotel-very clean! Room was comfortable and having our own private Onsen was fantastic!
Cons: Hotel sits on a very steep hill. It was a challenge to walk back and forth to town. Glad we had backpacks and not luggage as we couldn’t have gotten it up the hill.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The staff was great! Very welcoming and friendly!
Cons: The food was not at all what we expected. The fish and meat tasted as if they had been frozen for a while and then heated.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was very good - you choose BBQ or Nabe (hot pot) and we had an amazing wait staff who spoke perfect English and was extremely helpful! The private Onsen were very helpful as both my partner and I have lots of tattoos. You don’t need to make any special reservation so as long as the baths are free, you can use them! The shuttle bus to/from Kowakidani station was really great and very helpful. I also mentioned in my booking that I was staying for an anniversary, and the hotel left a small gift and a “congratulations” note in the room! The souvenir shop has a sale of 10-20% off everything for a few hours in the evening, which is really great, and of course encourages you to purchase some lovely Omiyage (souvenirs) for your friends and family.
Cons: The cleanliness of the outside sections of the hotel probably could do with a look - we had a room with an open air bath on the balcony, and it could have done with some extra cleaning. Also, some of the floorboards on the balcony were damaged and you had to be extremely careful as not to step on them otherwise you would fall through to the next floor! Whilst the private Onsen do not require any special reservations, the system they use (a wooden key that you take and hang outside that particular bath) did not work so well. We experienced some guests who went and sat in the baths without taking a key, or by using a different Onsen than what their key specified, so it meant that the baths were mixed up and it was unfair for those who wanted to try specific baths.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything! Some reviews said that there wouldn't be English speaking staff, nor wifi, but we had both. The service is very attentive, food is good, both private and public baths are very lovely, nothing to complain. We also had our own private outdoor bath in our room, which we enjoyed a lot and room service delivered sparkling wine. The massage was wonderful. We didn't want to leave the place. You don't really need to take anything with you, as the hotel provides you the yukata and slippers, that you can wear in the facilities. You find all the toileteries in your room as well as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, peeling gel, facial stuff, everything in the onsen facilities. I can warmly recommend this place, unless you are looking for more Western style accomodation and aren't a fan of Japanese food.
Cons: Can't really think of anything negative.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Very comfy beds Private balcony bath great Private onsen good
Cons: Cockroaches Silverfish in the bed No English ie on menus or staff speaking This isn’t a hotel aimed at international Customers. We said we were vegetarian and were served fish and meat for breakfast. We asked them to remove this from the table. On email they said we were to pick what we could eat. However the staff couldn’t tell us what was suitable. When we complained about the cockroaches and silver fish in the room nothing was done. Half the restaurants around closed very early if they were open at all. We would not go again. Also everyone wears the same clothes everywhere so like a prison camp or cult.
6.8 Good
Pros: There was multiple bath rooms
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything! It exceeded our expectations. Facilities, room, food, amenities, service. Everything was beyond our expectations.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Onsens Dinner was lovely, staff were brilliant and explained everything (in english) Free shuttle bus to and from station
Cons: Room was a bit smaller than expected from the photos on the website
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The man at reception spoke very good English but let me practice my Japanese anyway which is excellent. The room came with complimentary tea and manju, some shirasu senbei and some mochi. It was completely quiet and felt so private and relaxed. The breakfast was gorgeous and I wish I had time to try the free ramen in the evenings by the onsen. They provided a local restaurant guide though which was much appreciated.
Cons: There wasn’t anything I didn’t like! It was all great. No complaints.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff Room is new and spacious Quite a number of spring pools Free private bath tub Free compliments: drinks, Japanese noodles, milk Delicate breakfast with free rice refill
Cons: Not near train station but with free shuttle bus
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and dinner was awesome. We stay the hotel three days that breakfast for each morning and evening all deferent and so delicious!
Cons: The housing facilities are too old
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with a tub on the balcony. I don't think that it was natural spring water though, but that was fine. I really enjoyed lying in a warm tub in the evening and listening to the rain. Amazing experience.
Cons: There was a bit of a language barrier. None of the receptionist spoke fluent English. It wasn't really an issue. I should have learnt more Japanese!
