Cons: We had requested a minivan with 7 seats and got a Renault that had 2 seats in trunk with no trunk space.
Cons: There were no staff members when we first arrived. Instructions on how to proceed were posted on a wall. Then suddenly 4 staffers appeared out of nowhere.
OK I guess
Pros: We ended up getting a brand new vehicle, which was nice.
Cons: We waited about 45 minutes for them to prep the vehicle. Not sure why it took so long. Also, it was supposed to include GPS, but they didn't have a memory card for the GPS, so they gave us a portable one. The portable one hadn't been updated in 89 months! Which caused all sorts of technical problems and made the GPS really hard to use. Also, we had to buy the Swiss vignette, as it didn't come with one.
Peace of mind
Pros: We were given a hybrid automatic Toyota which, after the initial confusion (how do you start this car?) was great. I managed to get 78 mpg! Service at both pickup and drop off was quick and efficient. I shall always rent from Hertz in the future. (And take the full insurance as it is so worth the peace of mind)
Cons: It was very confusing to pick up a car on the French vs the Swiss side of the Geneva Airport. Also, our car was not ready. While we ended up with a nice upgrade, it also cost us more than we planned
Cons: Low quality screen winpers Tires not ready for winter snow Car lights not well reflecting
Cons: We put our credit card details in and pre booked the insurance. Once we got to the car rental pick up they had no credit card details in the system and we had to pay a ridiculous amount more for the insurance. We were also not told or informed to not drive back through Geneva to drop off our car off at Geneva airport so we also had to pay a 40 franc tax! We will not be using Kayak again because of this experience. As the overall cost was much much more than stated or indicated when initially booking. Melissa
Convenient Pickup on French side.
Pros: This is a great location if you intend to drive the car into France. If Switzerland is your destination you will have to buy a 40EUR Swiss vignette. The pickup was fast and efficient. The car was in excellent condition.
Flat tire ruined an otherwise good experience
Cons: We got a flat tire while driving on the freeway from Val D'Isere to Paris. Could not figure out the spare as guide written in french. Used a fix a flat cannister to fill up and get us to nearest Hertz office where they helped us put on the spare (temporary) tire. Made it to Paris to find out charging us 200 Euro ($250) for the flat!! Very disappointing as it was not a result of anything we did wrong and was likely the result of a tire defect. This is poor customer service and I will never use Hertz again!
Poor website and issues on insurance and clealiness
Pros: Not much
Cons: The website kept throwing me off everytime I tried choosing options. Specially when I chose the Insurance @ 10 Euros a day and they tried to modify the vehicle return time. Finally through exasperation I booked the vehicle hoping to chang the return time and insurance at the desk. Although I was able to change the return time with little difficulty, the insurance was a shocking 250 Euros for the 5 days. At a rough calculation, that would amount to a whopping 18 thousand Euros for a year which more than the value of the vehicle !!! A racket no doubt. The other point of disappointment was that the vehicle was reaking of cigarettes ; as a non-smoker I found it disgusting. Having handed in the vehicle I was refused any receipt to state that it was returned in the same condition when taken. I was advised the agent that I would receive a receipt, but 24 hrs has lapsed with no such receipt. Overhaul, not a very professional transaction.
SUV. Came without winter tires. Tires were bald!! Chains were the wto
Pros: I could return car early and hopefully get a partial refund.
Cons: Had to cut trip short and was limited where to go. Just dangerous
Awful Service and No Winter Tires
Cons: Hertz charged a ridiculous additional rate €250 for insurance if you didn’t want to put down a €1000 euro deposit. This was not previously part of the rental contract. The car was also only equipped with summer tires and there was still a significant mount of snow around Geneva and the Chamonix-mont-blanc pass. They offered snow chains for an additional €50. This was also not covered in the online rental agreement. Could not be more displeased with the overall customer service or the Hertz product. Will not be renting from Hertz again!
