I flew on 7/19/24 - the day of the global IT outage. My flight was delayed 4 times, then cancelled, then we re-booked a flight at a different airport, and then we missed that plane and had to re-book again at the last minute. We had to fly to a different airport which would require a 2.75 hour drive to our destination. Fortunately, we arrived around 9:30 pm so we thought it wouldn't be too bad. Even given all of those inconveniences, do you know what the WORST part of our day was? Dealing with the staff at the Hertz desk. Manipulation, lies, and unnecessary delays. I was traveling with a child, and trying to ensure her safety while she laid down on a couch along the wall, waiting for me while I waited and waited and waited in line. BUT there were only a couple of people in the line! The wait was because staff spent an ENORMOUS amount of time with each customer, trying to deceive them and upsell them. When it was finally my turn, the staff did a bait-and-switch with me. Then he told me I couldn't upgrade. Then he told me I could only upgrade if I paid for the reserved car as well. Then he lied to me about my car insurance. Then he priced out a car for $85/day for 3 days and presented me with a written bill for $600.00. I asked for a copy of it for my records and he refused. My 7 year old granddaughter repeatedly walked over to me, sleepy-eyed and asked, 'what is taking SO LONG Grammy?' The staff made me leave the line, go and make another reservation and only then would he allow me to book a car rental. We finally left there AFTER 11:00 PM - to begin our 2.75 hour drive to our destination. It was an extraordinary abuse of a customer, and I will NEVER use Hertz again. I was not able to ever cancel the original reservation: K9242146653. The staff told me reservations cannot be cancelled and it didn't matter because you only get charged when you pick up the car. He said you could make 10 reservations and you wouldn't get charged for them if you don't pick up the car. Would you please ensure that this is correct as they were very deceitful and I can't trust anything they said. Please make sure that I am only being charged for the actual car I rented. It was a 2024 Hyundai Kona, license TN 736BMPZ. The new reservation number was #K92430569D0. Thank you.Reviewed 23 Jul. 2024

The car is ok. It was very quick to get the car. Only the tank did appear to be full.Reviewed 17 May 2024

Customer service at the RDU terminal was excellent. The car was clean and it felt like an upgrade from what I booked, as it was quite new (low mileage) and was very comfortable. I needed to pick it up early, which was accommodated quite graciously. I had a 900 mile drive in this vehicle with no issues.Reviewed 9 May 2024

I opted to refill the gas tank myself, instead of paying for their gas service. I filled the tank less than a mile from drop-off. I even topped it up. After drop-off I received a bill for TWO GALLONS of gas that they claimed they put into the vehicle. There is no way they fit that much gas into that car. Had I not been paying attention, I would've been ripped off. Double check your final email receipt. You may not get it for a day or two.Reviewed 8 Apr. 2024

Firstly, Picking the car up was inconvenient. The business card i tried to use could not be used because the chip could not be read. I was told that would be the only way that they could use a card (no swiping the card or even manually entering. So, I used my personal card, while exclaiming my dissatisfaction. Then, first car I picked was absolutely filthy and moved to another car that was less dirty. I went about my way and drove to Ft. Liberty for work and then returned the car a few days later. The return process was much better at least. When I received my receipt, the final charges do not seem in line with what was presented on Kayak, and I asked for a follow up email or phone call to see if I could speak with someone about the matter and still haven't been contacted.Reviewed 25 Mar. 2024

The drop off location should not be used as a selectable location. No one was in the office, no drop off box is present, and when I called to change the location to a safe Hertz location 6 miles down the road, I was charged an extra fee out of my control.Reviewed 6 Nov. 2022

The option of picking a car of my choice from a bunch of cars in the same class was nice.. The first car we chose the seatbelt lightg would not go out.. Pciked a second and half way through the trip our car started warning us that the keyless fob was at ero battery and be had better do something soon. We spent a couple of hours running down the necessary battery and figuring our how to pry open the case to change the bttery so that we didnt get locked out of our car while attending a wedding and festivities. Other than that the NC RDU Hertz experience was good.Reviewed 19 Oct. 2021

Cons:The attendant left us at the airport in the parking lot of the rental car location because we didn't arrive within 30 minutes of our plane landing. We got there 10 minutes late according to your attendant. Another shuttle had to drive us to the Hertz location because the Hertz shuttle never came to pick us up. Will never use Hertz again and will tell anyone I ever run into to never use Hertz. Worst customer service experience. If it weren't for a nice lady from another car rental company, we would have had to walk back to the terminal with all of our luggage.Reviewed 5 Apr. 2021

Top tips for renting a car from Hertz at Raleigh-Durham Airport

  • If you're planning to fly to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) soon to visit North Carolina, you'll likely want to look into renting a car for your trip. Fortunately, you'll be able to pick up Hertz car rentals at Raleigh-Durham Airport almost as soon as you land in NC. There is a Hertz counter located conveniently at 1017 Rental Car Dr that can make it possible for you to retrieve the rental car you would like. Hertz also has convenient hours at this location, as it opens at 5 am every day and doesn't close down until midnight.
  • A big benefit of renting a car through Hertz as opposed to one of your other options at Raleigh-Durham International Airport is that you'll get access to a large variety of rental vehicles. Hertz can supply you with everything from compact cars and convertibles to minivans and SUVs. If you'll be traveling with a large group, a minivan or SUV might end up being your best bet. If, however, you'll be traveling alone or with just one other person, a fuel-friendly compact car will typically be the best option for you as it'll keep your travel costs to a minimum.
  • When you're trying to decide which Hertz car rentals at Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) you would like to rent, you might want to consider how many miles you'll put on the car you choose. When you rent smaller cars from Hertz, you'll usually get unlimited mileage with them. You can drive them all over the place in North Carolina and not have to worry about keeping an eye on the odometer. But some larger Hertz rental vehicles will have mileage restrictions on them. You'll want to shy away from renting one of these cars when you know you'll be putting a decent amount of miles on a rental.
  • You'll be able to incorporate a variety of add-ons into a Hertz rental car if you would like. For instance, you can choose to have Hertz set up a GPS navigation system for you in a rental car. You can also request they put a car seat into a rental car and equip it with something like satellite radio. Each of these add-ons will add to your total cost, but some of them will be well worth it if you're going to have a Hertz rental vehicle for even just a few days in the Raleigh and Durham areas.
  • Book your rental car at Raleigh-Durham Airport from Hertz at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • Mini rental cars from Hertz at Raleigh-Durham Airport are around 49% cheaper than other car types, on average
