Inexpensive, comfortable and easy
The staff was really kind - the man who handles luggage during the day is the most hospitable Bellman I've ever met. Excellent value at less than $200 for a night in Manhattan.
The bed isn't terribly comfortable. But everything else was good!
friendly staff, great decor, good location
extra charges for everything wanted a double bed $100 “upgrade” wanted breakfast $16.95pp for run of the mill hotel breakfast no hot food. hotel fee per day $20, i know that’s standard for some hotels but they tried to be sneaky about it, that’s what i didn’t like. just be honest and upfront.
Family Gathering
My son was graduating with a professional degree. Family from the Midwest were coming to NYC for the investiture. I made a reservation for 3 rooms (first mistake!). When I contacted The Avalon to change into the individual rooms, I was told to contact the online site where I made the reservation. The online site was absolutely no help! They refused to render any assistance, as they already their money. Contacted The Avalon who worked things out. They were a pleasure to work with. Rooms weren't ready when checking in, but all 3 parties arrived before 11 AM, so not unanticipated.
Avalon is an oasis in NYC
After long days of exploring NYC, the quiet beauty of the Avalon gave a wonderful respite. The rooms are generous in size, extremely clean, and oh so quiet. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay in the heart of the city in the shadow of the Empire State Building. Complimentary fresh ground espresso & hot/cold filtered water. Our queen room ended up being a king - bonus!
Hair dryers are not great Extra fees not obvious upfront - paid $20 per day plus taxes on top of prepaid room.
Terrible management
They were incredibly understaffed for the week after Christmas. It took an hour and a half to check in and 2 hours to get our car at checkout. Would never stay here again
LOVED this place!
got a good deal on Kayak.com. When I showed up to the hotel, they upgraded me to one of their best rooms for no charge. the room was beautiful, bed comfortble, and the space quiet. What a lovely refuge for a busy business trip! Thank you Avaol for a great stay: I'll be back!
not a one!
Huge room
Great location between 2 subway lines and a short walk to Penn station. Room was very large and clean. I would definitely stay here again.
Adequate hotel for business or to use as a "base"
Decent location, very convenient to 6 subway which is great to get up and down the east side of Manhattan. Very helpful staff.
Not a great few blocks for bars and restaurants and nothing much to speak of in the hotel itself. Wood veneer floors in rooms are probably easier to keep clean but not very comfortable or inviting.
Price. Bathrooms were clean and nice. Spacious.
The facility felt very old and outdated. The quality of the floors, rugs, couches, shades was all poor. The floors were fake wood linoleum that moved around under your feet. The rooms need upgrades. The views out the back are straight into a construction site.
Wifi was really spotty the first day, and the shower was installed with hot and cold reversed.
Valentine's weekend in NYC
Great location, excellent price, friendly staff
No issues
Hotel Restaurant food was really good
No tea & coffee in the room
Room very large and excellent confort, convenient location, very kind staff, very good beds. I was upgraded
I bit old
The room was quite large and looking good, large bathroom, the bed was good. Two big flat TVs in the room. Location is perfect.
The ventilation/heating system was making awful noise, couldn't sleep the first night at all, next day after coming back from the tour found out that it could not be turned off even manually, and it was too hot in the room after a while. After they failed to fix it, had to move us to another room for the last night. Though it was better room , it was quite tiring to pack and move out after midnight, feeling exhausted and sleepy after a long day. No discount was offered after all this mess, quite dissapointing for such a high class hotel, what they think, they are. No room service???
Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
location is perfect for being in the heart of midtown, 5 minutes walk to the empire state building. friendly staff, free internet definitely a plus. clean rooms,
given their size, rooms could be a bit cheaper.
large room for NY staff is pleasant
rooms not cleaned at convenient hours. we were out of the roomm from 8:30 am till 3pm and room still hadn't been cleaned,we complained and a quick but not acceptable job was done, the next day maids wanted to clean in the afternoon so we had to leave the room when our granddaughter wanted to nap and they didn't do a good job.breakfast too expensive
Quiet, reasonable position for walking most places for active people
cheap plastic flooring material on bedroom floors with no rugs. Prices high for location
Location was about right, for access to Manhattan in all directions. There was a very visible labor dispute during the length of our stay, and we benefitted from this with a "no extra cost" upgrade to our room (from Deluxe to Executive).
The Restaurant was a rip-off - poor menu, poorly presented and often semi-cold - so, poor value. Breakfast was definitely not up to standard. We complained verbally, but we were merely told to fill out a complaints form by the restuarant staff, who didn't want to know really. Eat elsewhere, plenty of choice out and about. We did not have time to do so, but this review will suffice if it comes to their attention how we felt
spacious room, jacuzzi bath, spacious bathroom, good breakfast. very good situation midtown
