They canceled the reservation the day of the rental because there were no cars available. More advance notice should have been given. Fortunately the Avis down the street was able to accommodate us as well as several others who experienced the same thing.

Website gave me a car but when we got to the place they said they have no cars? This has happened twice in our vacation and has runed most of our vacation. Stuck on PEI Island for 3 days with out a car when we had a confirmation number and all... apparently it doesn't mean anything

Great staff, was all very good!

Cons:

Nothing better then going home to good hospitality. And the comments on the side that I can see are exactly the same comments about the Hamilton, Ontario location. I am finding that to be not the truth.

Pros:

Super friendly and they actually answered the local phone to assist us prior to our cruise ship arrival! At the counter they were fantastic, made sure we had all the info to make the most of our one-day rental in Sydney.

Cons:

They had pickup from the ship/harbor, but were closed at after noon on a Sunday so we had to take a cab back to the ship. Only $10 but shuttle both ways would be extra grand.

Pros:

It was very convenient to get to the location as there was a shuttle that we saw just as we exited the ship at the port of Sydney. The car was clean and comfortable and we really liked the fact that they had pre-printed directions for some of the most popular sites in the area—and the car had Sat Nav as well.

When I picked up the car in Sydney at 12:00 PM, the agent was warm, welcoming, efficient, and knowledgeable. She asked what my plans were in Sydney and gave local suggestions as she processed my paperwork. What a wonderful way to introduce me to the beautiful Cape Breton.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
