Trouble in QuitoPros:Nothing. Didn't have a car wben we arrived at the airport. Waited a day and a half and took a taxi to another office in the city to pick up a car the next day. Though I was covered for insurance through my credit card, would not rent me the car unless I paid for insurance.Reviewed 16 Jan. 2017

Thrifty at Quito airport is a rip off!!Pros:The size of the Chevy Spark makes it very easy to park.Cons:The insurance price was double the price of the car. That and I already have car insurance, Geico, that covers my driving in other countries. I did not want the Thrifty Insurance but the agent would not negotiate. Said that I had to take Thrifty's. The 100k per day mileage limit is ridiculous. I ended up driving 660km in five days so they charged me an extra $40, 25 cents a km, such a rip off. Also the car they gave me, Chevy Spark, was terribly on hills. Almost had two different accidents sliding downhill. My advice rent an automatic in Quito from a more reputable rental agent like Hertz.Reviewed 18 Apr. 2017

Worst car rental ever!!!Cons:1) There was no address for the various Thrifty agencies in Quito on the rental agreement, we couldn't get in touch with anyone, so we spent an hour and lots of taxi dollars trying to find an office. Then, 2) when we finally found one, they said, "Oh, the $72 you paid Kayak for insurance is INTERNATIONAL insurance, which we don't accept (here in Ecuador, presumably), so we had to pay of new insurance to the tune of $150 or so. 3) Then, to top it all off, they said we could only drive 800 kilometers in eight days, or we'd have to pay 25 cents a kilometer above that. A terrible experience.Reviewed 31 Mar. 2017

Verify class of vehicle and total price locally bePros:The car was clean and ready when we got there. The service was friendly and accomodating.Cons:Not mentioned in the online booking process is the mandatory 1st party insurance, which was $20 a day extra. I had purchased third party insurance through Allianz which they did not accept and so I ended up paying twice for insurance. Additionally, the photo of the "premium" car online was a late model Chevy Tahoe / equivalent. The actual "premium" car we received was a Suzuki Grand Vitara - a substantially smaller and less premium vehicle. We were told it would be $100 more a day to have the actual type of vehicle we reserved. Not the local rental counter's fault - their advertising in-location all had the correct vehicles pictured next to their class names - but the international Thrifty website was wrong.Reviewed 14 Feb. 2017

No car available for us!!Cons:this was a total scam. There was no car available when we got in and we were screwed. No other cars at any of the airport car rental agencies either since it was the holidays. had to spend hundreds of dollars more to take taxi into city center and rent a car from Avis the next day at a charge higher rate since it was so last minute. 8 would never use this service again and am appalledReviewed 31 Dec. 2016

Late night Staff doesnt know what they are doing??Pros:Good suzuki grand vitar, clean, minimal dents and scratches. No problems w vehicle.Cons:Only one renting a car at midnight, but took clerk 40 minutes to fill out the paper work?! I carry my own insurance, so declined coverage and paid bill in full w credit card. Then when I returned car, they charged me for insurance despite all the original paperwork saying none. Argued for 10 minutes, eventually gave up. They said it was mandatory to take it. Then why do they ask if you want it? Why is it not in the price? Why did I get the original paperwork w out insurance on it. Want to bet if I had an accident I would have had no insurance coverage on their end?Reviewed 4 Dec. 2016

Terrible car, terrible servicePros:NothingCons:The car was horrible. A Chevy Spark with bad brakes and all banged up. I wanted to cancel the reservation and they told me they couldn't refund me for 10 days. They made me wait an hour just to tell me they couldn't simply refund my money while constantly trying to upsell me. Horrible experience.Reviewed 21 Jul. 2017

Rip off and frustrating mechanically thrifty shoulPros:1. Arrived and immediately told that internet insurance We were sold from booking site is not accepted 2. We were told signing damage waiver is not accepted even though it is described on thrifty contract. But agent at Quito could not show us anything in contract that insurance was mandatory from them She said that is why she was telling us because it is not it writing 3 insurance they offered initially had $1500 deductible and $9500 max value. We had to negotiate just to get $1000 deductible and $20000 just to have enough to cover the car For $25/ day We had already paid $80 on line for $50k coverage 4. Even though flight arrived after midnight agent charged us starting at 5pm so we had to pay extra hours at drop off 5 the Suzuki had an after market chevy alarm that the Attendant did not explain how to use nor supply instructions Alarm would go off every time the door was opened or closed. Even the glove compartment. At one point the alarm went into lockup and could not start the car while stuck on a street in a village in Ecuador jungle Finally got a thrifty mechanic on cell phone to reset it 6 inspite of having two insurance plus our own car insurance they said they keep the 1k damage deposit for for 5 daysCons:See the like sectionReviewed 22 Jan. 2017
