Top tips for renting a car at Buffalo Airport
A great feature of car rental at Buffalo Airport (BUF) is that they have six major rental car companies that most travelers are familiar with. What is even better is that all six of the companies have their customer service counters on the first floor of the Ground Transportation Center that is right across the street from the terminal building. All the cars that they have available for rent sit in the parking lots of the Ground Transporation Center that is adjacent to the terminal building, just outside of the baggage claim area. The cars are one floor down from the customer service counters in the parking structure.
When you are ready to return your car rental at Buffalo Airport, follow the ample signage you will find along Highway 33 as you approach the airport. Once you are on the airport property, proceed to the Ground Transportation Center and head to the appropriate location for your rental car company. Once you're there, park and lock your car and note your gas level and mileage. Take your keys and your contract and hand them to a staff member or simply drop them in the dropbox.
Since this is an airport that serves a rather large city, you can find several transportation options to get you from the airport to the center of town. The only problem with these modes of transportation such as buses and taxis is that they can be a problem both in terms of how you're going to transport all of your things and in terms of the ongoing cost of using them. That is what makes car rental at Buffalo Airport such a great combination of convenience and cost savings.
Like a lot of major airports in the United States, this airport experiences busier times throughout the day. For travelers that are arriving on flights at this airport and plan on renting a car, you should expect the busiest time of the day will be between 3 pm and 6 pm and then again from 10 pm until midnight. During these times you should expect longer wait times to pick up your Buffalo Airport car rental. That is one of the reasons it is vital to book a car before your trip to this airport.

Every thing was good but the drop off. Did not have any direction where to park or an attendant to help with information.

I was cheated on fuel. The car was given to me about half full. The GMC Denali doesn’t have a standard fuel gauge but miles till empty. I returned the car full and the agent promised me a $50.00 credit which I did not receive.

They wouldn't let me rent the car without a flight number because it was booked at the airport. This was not disclosed and now it's taking forever to get a refund because I used the pay later option through Affirm and now have to go through a dispute process. This is horrible!!!

I used to work in the rental car business so this is not coming from a perspective of entitlement but rather experience. This SUV that was rented was simply not cleaned at all. There was a complete lack of care by the Budget employees at the airport in Buffalo. I did not report this at the time because the walk to the car is far away from the counter and I had to get to my appointment. Complaining wouldn’t be necessary and waste everyone’s time if a job was done properly from the beginning.

I did not like it at all. Kayak is only a front runner for another corporation that takes your money and I never got a car when I got to my destination and I haven't gotten all my money back yet. I did not understand that you're not really going to kayak kayak is just looking for cars for somebody else who may or may not get your car for you. I didn't like the experience at all and I never got my money back from kayak. I only got partial funds back from a corporation called QEEQ there you go.
The ease of extending the drop off time by 4 hours was greatly appreciated. That no extra fee was added was a great gesture. Pick up at the beginning took longer than it should have. I miss the Gold Club days.

I didn't end up getting my car. I waited in line for over an hour, saw them check out less than 10 people, and was then told they didn't have cars available for anyone except the people that had reserved a minivan. I ended up canceling my reservation and booking a car with Enterprise the next day. If at all possible, I'll never use Hertz again.
I got a brand new car, clean and a hybrid car. That was a nice experience.

Bad customer service. They tried to get me to upgrade knowing they would give me a free upgrade if I declined because they did not have a vehicle in my level I selected. The clerk also lied about having to buy the toll pass to go into Canada. The toll pass does not operate in Canada.

The Buffalo airport car rental was a 3 hour wait. This was terrible with my family of 5, including 5, 8, 10 yr olds. Will never do this again.
Because it was an unexpected rental due to flight cancellation, it was last minute. They were experiencing some technical issues but were able to get us taken care of fairly quickly and were very helpful and friendly. The vehicle provided was perfect.

This was a miserable experience where the reservation made has not honored by Enterprise Rent-a-car Buffalo airport desk agent or manager. Although booked correctly on your site they decided to tell me not vehicles were available while I had seen multiple vehicles in the parking lot waiting for pick-up.
