Pros: Quick and easy process to pick up and drop off the car. Very nice and friendly budget representatives.
Cons: They should have the sand protection policy online so people can read it ahead of time. We went to check out the car and found 6 other scratched that weren't mentioned on the page.

Cons: Difficult to find the car when we arrived with no assistance. The gentlemen that checked the car in was an absolute dick and they attempted to overcharge for scratch on car that was already there.

$600 charge for paint chip
Pros: Decent car.
Cons: Returned the car with a paint chip on the passenger side door, size of a grain of rice. Got charged $600 for it; they know you won't argue because you have a flight to catch.
BE WARNED: They will either get you for buying their 'insurance' or get you for 'damages'. Roads in Iceland have a lot of small pebbles, so you WILL get paint damage.

Couldn't have been happier
Pros: Had an excellent experience using Budget to rent a car to drive around Iceland. We arrived at 4am at the airport and had our keys and documents signed within 30 minutes. The car came with a full tank of petrol and was spotless inside and out. We rented a Hyundai i10 which I'd highly recommend. The car came with studded snow tires which I didn't expect. They came in handy when driving the icy roads in Northern Iceland.
Cons: The gentleman asked if we'd like to return the car with a full tank or empty tank of fuel. I obviously said empty because it seemed like a better deal. I believe I was charged an extra $80 USD for the full tank which would have cost me around $50 USD if I was to fill it myself. It was my fault for falling for the convenience of it.

Car was right out front!
Pros: Car could not have been located better - it was parked right out front of the terminal, which was crucial because it was so cold and we were in a hurry. Drop off was just as easy.
Cons: The car sounded like it had some mechanical issues, and was missing a hub cap, but didn't have any major issues.

Pros: Car was pretty new and did its purpose fine!
Cons: HIDDEN. FEES. My total renting from budget was $167, when i left the front desk the final price was $591! It is unacceptable! We added a GPS, whiche they charged over $60 a day for, this is one ove these crappy 2003 GPS, impossible to work with. And on top of that hidden fees, I had the feeling of being of dishonesty. When i got the car keys i had to walk 5 min to pick up the car and was told to make a full on inspection of the car that they estimated would take 15-20 min, the last thing you wanna do after you've been standing in line for 85 minutes, and had your price more than tripple. Returning the car, Budgets representative took 25 minutes going throught the car (while im standing next to him) and finds things on it that is just inpossible would have been our fault but just general wear and tear, their insurance claime came down to $1756, so DON'T FORGET INSURANCE, they will do anything to milk out an extra dollar.
All in all, BEWARE!

Pros: The car was in very good condition and tips given for driving Iceland roads was helpful.
Cons: I wanted to pay in cash, but was not allowed.

Pros: No problems. Busy return desk at 4 am worked efficiently
Cons: Emailed to extend the rental and never heard bsck

Do not rent with Budget- will not honor kayak res specifications
Cons: When we went to check the car we were given, the dashboard said that one of the tires had low air pressure. The associate who handled our reservation told us to come back inside and tell them if anything was wrong with the car. She sent out a different associate to check for us, and because he clearly wanted to be done for the night he told us to ignore the warning about low air pressure because the problem was with the dashboard display, not the tire. He was incredibly rude to use when we told him we could tell that the tire pressure was low just by looking at it. He told us should just take the car and take it to a garage to get it fixed if it was bothering us and it was not his problem. As you know, the roads in Iceland can be quite dangerous and your associate told us to drive them with a deflated tire. Aside from the poor customer service, your associate put our lives in danger by telling us to ignore the car's warning signal and drive dangerous roads with a deflated tire. He left and went home for the night, and we were forced to spend another 1.5 hours at your return center until they gave us a new car. In addition, the initial associate we dealt with said they would not honor the reservation conditions from our kayak reservation which promised a car that fit 4 suitcases. From start to finish, this was an unpleasant and dangerous experience.

Drop off unclear
Pros: Pickup not bad. A bit of a walk to Cars would be ugly in winter. Friendly desk staff.
Cons: Drop off inefficient and not well marked. Shuttle is a van that take 6 people at a time, so expect to wait. Walk to airport would be terrible in winter.
Pros: Managed to get the 4x4 I hoped for. That's pretty much it.
Cons: Bought travel insurance to cover the vehicle only to find out that if you decline their insurance they hold several THOUSAND dollars as a deposit. Don't remember seeing that written anywhere when I did this deal. So I had to get their coverage or be stuck with whatever. Wound up paying as much as other companies so no real discount after it was all said and done! Won't be using them or maybe even Kayak again for rentals!!

Decent vehicle but pricing is false.
Pros: The Dacia Duster was a good little SUV for Iceland's gravel roads. I definitely recommend getting something with AWD or 4WD for Iceland if you're planning to leave Reykjavik.
Cons: Ace subcontracts with a company called Go-Iceland. If you do not want their insurance, even if you already have your own, they will charge you a $3500 deposit. Yes, that's right, $3500. Their proprietary insurance is quite expensive and dies not cover chipped windshields or tires. You will still be responsible for these damages.
Luckily we incurred no damage and despite paying considerably more for the vehicle than we expected, we got good use out of our car and had an amazing time in Iceland.
We will be going back but we will not be using Ace.

Brand New Rental, Terrible Service
Pros: Started out great that we had a brand new rental only 45km before us but turned out to be awful. The fact that we had a brand new rental was the only good thing, the price started out good too.
Cons: From the start it was difficult to find the shuttle at 5:00 in morning. The service agent at the ACE rental location was not super helpful, explained very little to us only the necessities. Suggested I upgrade coverage to not pay a deposit but turns out that didn't cover everything. On the first day the battery in the brand new car failed and they wouldn't give us a replacement, we had to wait until the next day for them to replace the battery and drive with a ECO feature off. When we returned at 3:00 like requested to return our car the agent was not there we has to wait it 0* weather outside. When he did show he explained nothing and charged us an additional fee as never explained why, and now we have dispute with their service and out credit card company. My suggestion is look elsewhere and get all the insurance you can. The insurance Kayak offers from Alliance covers nothing.

Horrible Customer Service
Pros: Nothing about this company was good.
Cons: I usually don't write negative reviews but read this for your own sake...DO NOT book with this company!
They claimed that there was a tiny dent on one of the doors which was most likely there beforehand but that tiny dent they said they usually charge $1200 for that small dent (which is insane) but they are going to be nice about it and charge $600. At that point I realized that they are trying to just rip off money from me and after going back and forth and they said they will charge me $400.
So clearly it's based of random numbers and I was extremely disappointment because clearly they are stealing money.
So, do yourself a favor and book with a different company that have better and more honest customer service and don't so obviously steal your money.

Ripped me off
Cons: Cracked oil pan from gravel or previous accident. Took on no-off roads, main highway only and then they charged me almost $2,000 to fix the oil pan.

Pros: The car was clean, hassle free, and worked great.
Cons: The deposit was a bit much for someone to just drop out of pocket right away.

Pros: Very helpfull
17 Apr 2017
Cons: Had a hard time finding an employee to drop off the car.

Will recommend to anyone
Pros: Turnaround time at pickup and drop off time.
Cons: Upon picking up the car in Reykjavik, Iceland, the Avis employee informed us that the insurance would cost twice the cost of the rental, and did not know if we could cancel it if I found out that my credit card was already providing coverage. He then said it would not be possible to refund my money.

Everything went smoothly
Pros: Polite, efficient staff. Process went quickly and smoothly. No pressure to buy extra insurance.
Cons: A sign at the shuttle stop at the airport would have been great. We had no idea where to stand, or how long the wait would be... and it was very very very cold!
15 Jun 2017
Cons: I bought CDW from the link on the kayak website where I rented the car. I was told by Avis in Reyjkavic they would not honor this policy so I had to bu another policy from Avis.
Waited in line over 1 hour to pick up car.
25 Dec 2016
Pros: The representative upon my arrival was very courteous and helpful. The car was relatively easy to find in the parking lot and when we arrived it was very clean and ready for us to go. I also liked that it had a full tank of gas.
Cons: I thought the car was a bit pricey for what it was. But maybe that's just because it was in Iceland and everything is expensive in Iceland. Also, I found the car to be a bit small. We had four adults and an infant in a car seat. The description of the vehicle said that it holds 5 and luggage for 5. However it barely held luggage for 3. One of the passengers had to have their luggage on their lap the entire way back to and from the airport. Finally, the drop-off procedure can stand some improving. When I dropped off the vehicle fortunately I had already dropped off the other four individuals at the terminal and I drove the car back by myself. But when I got to the drop-off location it was windy and snowing and raining and very cold and there's no shuttle back to the terminal so I had to walk back in that nasty weather. It wouldn't have been a problem in the summer time but that particular day was nasty.
Cons: We were not informed that the Iceland Economy Car Rental company does a "pick up service" since their building is not in the airport. This meant we were not looking for the driver when we landed and missed him. This created great confusion as we did not have cell service there to contact the company and had to find airport help.

Not the best value
Pros: Staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. Insurance was offered at a reasonable rate.
Cons: Rental was actually through Fair Car, not Economy Rent a Car. While somewhat cheaper than other large car options, we still paid a lot for a car that was a tight squeeze for five people and our luggage. We changed the pick up by only a few hours, which led to a noticeable change in price. After it was all said and done, the car was almost $200 more than expected. It looks like we were originally quoted a price in euros, not US dollars and local taxes were omitted.
Cons: Our rental was for 2 days and 2 hours, they were going to charge for 3 days. We brought the car back right before the end of the second day and ended up being charged nearly $90 for returning it "early".

Exorbitant gas cost substantially increased cost
Pros: Pickup was fine and the vehicle was fine.
Cons: We were told to fill up the gas tank at the airport upon return. I asked if the price at the airport gas stations was higher than we'd pay at stations in Reykjavik. The Hertz rep said that the price would be identical. When we got to the airport to return the car, the gas stations wouldn't accept cash or our US credit cards. We tried both stations at the airport. No luck. So we handed in the car with half a tank, having wasted 20 minutes trying to fill up. We explained the issue to the trainee attendant at Hertz's returns desk and he told us there was nothing that can be done. They simply charged us the penalty rate for a non-full tank. This was highway robbery in my view. I won't be using Hertz again.
Pros: The staff were very friendly and professional.
Cons: I had expected a slightly higher quality car. The various categories/tiers made it difficult to honestly assess value. For example, we selected a "VW Golf or similar" and ended up with a Kia. I do not consider the Kia similar given we did not select the economy category.
