Pros: Quick and easy process to pick up and drop off the car. Very nice and friendly budget representatives.
Cons: They should have the sand protection policy online so people can read it ahead of time. We went to check out the car and found 6 other scratched that weren't mentioned on the page.

Cons: Difficult to find the car when we arrived with no assistance. The gentlemen that checked the car in was an absolute dick and they attempted to overcharge for scratch on car that was already there.

$600 charge for paint chip
Pros: Decent car.
Cons: Returned the car with a paint chip on the passenger side door, size of a grain of rice. Got charged $600 for it; they know you won't argue because you have a flight to catch.
BE WARNED: They will either get you for buying their 'insurance' or get you for 'damages'. Roads in Iceland have a lot of small pebbles, so you WILL get paint damage.

Couldn't have been happier
Pros: Had an excellent experience using Budget to rent a car to drive around Iceland. We arrived at 4am at the airport and had our keys and documents signed within 30 minutes. The car came with a full tank of petrol and was spotless inside and out. We rented a Hyundai i10 which I'd highly recommend. The car came with studded snow tires which I didn't expect. They came in handy when driving the icy roads in Northern Iceland.
Cons: The gentleman asked if we'd like to return the car with a full tank or empty tank of fuel. I obviously said empty because it seemed like a better deal. I believe I was charged an extra $80 USD for the full tank which would have cost me around $50 USD if I was to fill it myself. It was my fault for falling for the convenience of it.

Car was right out front!
Pros: Car could not have been located better - it was parked right out front of the terminal, which was crucial because it was so cold and we were in a hurry. Drop off was just as easy.
Cons: The car sounded like it had some mechanical issues, and was missing a hub cap, but didn't have any major issues.

GPS kept telling me to go off-road
Pros: Car pick up was great. We made sure we had all the protection plans we could get and opted to get a GPS just incase we got lost. Car performed well and held up to the rigors that we put it through.
Cons: It might be an Icelandic location thing, but the GPS kept telling us to go the opposite way or to go off-road. In the end we just ended up turning it off after the first day. Windshield wipers probably needed to be changed as they would smear rather than wipe the windshield clean.

Pros: I bought the Kayak offered supplemental insurance policy at booking time ($36) which was supposed to cover everything up to the value of the car at $USD 40,000. The majority of the check in process is a hard sell first to upgrade car to 4x4 (which they make it sound like you will need-- and you DON'T), then a big sales job on how the insurance Kayak offers through thid party which I got doesn't cover much, that none of the credit cards do either, and try to scare you into buying their supplemental package for ash and sand. We never saw any ash or sand the whole trip. A hard sell rip-off.
Cons: Hard sales tactics for bogus supplemental insurance

Pros: Comfortable and nice car
Cons: A lot of hidden fees and they are not very explicit about what they are charging you for. Be careful and read the whole contract and fine print! I was quite taken aback by the charges they put through and reached out to request an assessment of the charges and they were not helpful and were quite dismissive.

Cons: I think this company is running a scam on foreigners. They charged my credit card for some alleged "broken door stopper" after I bought insurance through your website for the car rental. They wouldn't acknowledge that I had paid for the car insurance and they charged me again for car insurance. So I paid twice for car insurance and then in the end they charged my credit card for damage that didn't even exist. Very unhappy, like I said I think they are scamming people.
Pros: Managed to get the 4x4 I hoped for. That's pretty much it.
Cons: Bought travel insurance to cover the vehicle only to find out that if you decline their insurance they hold several THOUSAND dollars as a deposit. Don't remember seeing that written anywhere when I did this deal. So I had to get their coverage or be stuck with whatever. Wound up paying as much as other companies so no real discount after it was all said and done! Won't be using them or maybe even Kayak again for rentals!!

Decent vehicle but pricing is false.
Pros: The Dacia Duster was a good little SUV for Iceland's gravel roads. I definitely recommend getting something with AWD or 4WD for Iceland if you're planning to leave Reykjavik.
Cons: Ace subcontracts with a company called Go-Iceland. If you do not want their insurance, even if you already have your own, they will charge you a $3500 deposit. Yes, that's right, $3500. Their proprietary insurance is quite expensive and dies not cover chipped windshields or tires. You will still be responsible for these damages.
Luckily we incurred no damage and despite paying considerably more for the vehicle than we expected, we got good use out of our car and had an amazing time in Iceland.
We will be going back but we will not be using Ace.

Brand New Rental, Terrible Service
Pros: Started out great that we had a brand new rental only 45km before us but turned out to be awful. The fact that we had a brand new rental was the only good thing, the price started out good too.
Cons: From the start it was difficult to find the shuttle at 5:00 in morning. The service agent at the ACE rental location was not super helpful, explained very little to us only the necessities. Suggested I upgrade coverage to not pay a deposit but turns out that didn't cover everything. On the first day the battery in the brand new car failed and they wouldn't give us a replacement, we had to wait until the next day for them to replace the battery and drive with a ECO feature off. When we returned at 3:00 like requested to return our car the agent was not there we has to wait it 0* weather outside. When he did show he explained nothing and charged us an additional fee as never explained why, and now we have dispute with their service and out credit card company. My suggestion is look elsewhere and get all the insurance you can. The insurance Kayak offers from Alliance covers nothing.

Horrible Customer Service
Pros: Nothing about this company was good.
Cons: I usually don't write negative reviews but read this for your own sake...DO NOT book with this company!
They claimed that there was a tiny dent on one of the doors which was most likely there beforehand but that tiny dent they said they usually charge $1200 for that small dent (which is insane) but they are going to be nice about it and charge $600. At that point I realized that they are trying to just rip off money from me and after going back and forth and they said they will charge me $400.
So clearly it's based of random numbers and I was extremely disappointment because clearly they are stealing money.
So, do yourself a favor and book with a different company that have better and more honest customer service and don't so obviously steal your money.

Ripped me off
Cons: Cracked oil pan from gravel or previous accident. Took on no-off roads, main highway only and then they charged me almost $2,000 to fix the oil pan.

Pros: The car was clean, hassle free, and worked great.
Cons: The deposit was a bit much for someone to just drop out of pocket right away.

Pros: Very helpfull
17 Apr 2017
Cons: Had a hard time finding an employee to drop off the car.
Cons: Upon picking up the car in Reykjavik, Iceland, the Avis employee informed us that the insurance would cost twice the cost of the rental, and did not know if we could cancel it if I found out that my credit card was already providing coverage. He then said it would not be possible to refund my money.

Everything went smoothly
Pros: Polite, efficient staff. Process went quickly and smoothly. No pressure to buy extra insurance.
Cons: A sign at the shuttle stop at the airport would have been great. We had no idea where to stand, or how long the wait would be... and it was very very very cold!
25 Dec 2016
Pros: The representative upon my arrival was very courteous and helpful. The car was relatively easy to find in the parking lot and when we arrived it was very clean and ready for us to go. I also liked that it had a full tank of gas.
Cons: I thought the car was a bit pricey for what it was. But maybe that's just because it was in Iceland and everything is expensive in Iceland. Also, I found the car to be a bit small. We had four adults and an infant in a car seat. The description of the vehicle said that it holds 5 and luggage for 5. However it barely held luggage for 3. One of the passengers had to have their luggage on their lap the entire way back to and from the airport. Finally, the drop-off procedure can stand some improving. When I dropped off the vehicle fortunately I had already dropped off the other four individuals at the terminal and I drove the car back by myself. But when I got to the drop-off location it was windy and snowing and raining and very cold and there's no shuttle back to the terminal so I had to walk back in that nasty weather. It wouldn't have been a problem in the summer time but that particular day was nasty.
Cons: Our rental was for 2 days and 2 hours, they were going to charge for 3 days. We brought the car back right before the end of the second day and ended up being charged nearly $90 for returning it "early".

Exorbitant gas cost substantially increased cost
Pros: Pickup was fine and the vehicle was fine.
Cons: We were told to fill up the gas tank at the airport upon return. I asked if the price at the airport gas stations was higher than we'd pay at stations in Reykjavik. The Hertz rep said that the price would be identical. When we got to the airport to return the car, the gas stations wouldn't accept cash or our US credit cards. We tried both stations at the airport. No luck. So we handed in the car with half a tank, having wasted 20 minutes trying to fill up. We explained the issue to the trainee attendant at Hertz's returns desk and he told us there was nothing that can be done. They simply charged us the penalty rate for a non-full tank. This was highway robbery in my view. I won't be using Hertz again.
