I suggest that the cursory walk around the car be reinstated with the rental team, prior to driving off. The video, whilst being a good idea missed a few things. Similarly, the insurance selections could be simpler and clearer, they are not and I have a nagging suspicion that I paid for one thing too many. I rented a car in Iceland and went to pick it up. They were very high pressure for upselling claiming I would need an SUV to survive and would need to upgrade insurance due to weather conditions and that I would see so many abandoned cars on the side of the road from people who rented cars without insurance that got ruined due to winds or gravel. Pros:Very easy process, staff was attentive and welcoming. Car was nice, no issues.Cons:My only complaint was that I feel I was upsold how 'Iceland is different from other countries so the insurance is more worthwhile here.' I came in November and other then some rain and higher winds, I really didn't think the weather was all that special. I didn't encounter any gravel roads going to the main sites along the southern coast and their certainly wasn't need for the wind and ash insurance. Now certainly these things happen, of course, and it's good to be aware, but I felt like the way everyone was talking about the weather I would be stupid not to take it, yet the changes were really not that different from my home country. So maybe I would amend the shtick on insurance to 'useful if you only drive in sunny weather' or something similar.Reviewed 26 Nov. 2019
