Pick up arrived 1.5 hours late. I was charged 30% more than announced and the car was in very poor condition. Was forced to accept the deal unless I would be willing to be left in the middle of nowhere (rental office) at 10 pm with my family after a 24 hour trip. Worst experience ever.Reviewed 29 May 2022

The shuttle was supposed to pick our party of 5 up at Keflavík Airport but when we arrived they would only shuttle one of us to the rental facility so I had to go by myself then go back to the airport and pick the rest of my family up. The facility appears to be in a car junk yard. The car pick up process took a long time, the staff was rude to everyone waiting there, and they put a hold on my credit card of over $3k on top of the cost of the rental and insurance. I thought I was signing for the cost of the rental and insurance because I did not understand the conversation rate. The hold was never verbally explained to me. The car was clean but run down, dented and rusty. Luckily I took video of the exterior and interior before I got in because when I dropped it off they were going to charge me for a dent in the door until I showed them my video… even though when I picked the car up they assured me that they took enough pictures. I also heard them on the phone with another customer who’s rental died at a waterfall. They basically blamed it on the customer and told them to call roadside assistance and hung up on them. Renters beware!Reviewed 23 Sep. 2021

The car was filthy with black/ oily grime on steering wheel and all buttons, the tires were low in air so we had to constantly find gas station to fill them, the car was dented and with broken light covers. Ended having to pay for daily insurance which doubled the rental cost.could have found a better car for the same price elsewhere. Pick up and drop off was convenientReviewed 17 Sep. 2021

The drop off was quick. Only because we were the only people there. The pick up was a complete mess and took forever. Took a long time for the shuttle to arrive from the airport. The rental car was very old. It had 110,000 miles on it was was very. I wish I had rented from hertz. avis, or enterprise and not a discount car rental.Reviewed 17 Aug. 2021

Waited over an hour for pickup at the airport. Can't reach the office by phone, no one picks up. Rental location is different than listed (search for Bílar og hjól)Reviewed 15 Aug. 2021

Car was fine, but it took 2.5 hours of waiting to pick up the car. Rent from someone else.Reviewed 10 Aug. 2021

It took over an hour to check out and receive the vehicle, which was not washed after the last driver. The electronic fault light was on from the moment I picked up the vehicle (orange, not red) and I later found out the windshield wipers were in horrible condition making it difficult and dangerous to drive in the rain. Other than that, the vehicle (Dacia Duster) performed well and seemed mechanically sound. The drop of process was as bad as the checkout. The address on the rental form was NOT the address to return the vehicle. After several “Google attempts” to find the address for the return location, I finally stopped at a competitor’s office to ask directions. I (and others returning vehicles) were expected to wait over an hour to return the vehicle while it was checked in and inspected for damage. I arrived 3.5 hours before my flight. After several customers threatened to just leave the keys and get taxis to the airport (we were told we couldn’t use the shuttle if our cars were not “properly” checked in) the staff finally took us to the head of the line. By the time I got to the terminal and through check in and security, my flight was already boarding. Very stressful overall. After repeatedly mentioning the condition of the wipers, I was emailed a check-in sheet stating they were in good condition- indicating to me the issue was not addressed for the next renter.Reviewed 3 Aug. 2021

We were supposed to pick up our rental at 7am, we did not receive the rental until 9:15-9:30am. When we asked about where the rental car was, we were given the answer of “it will be here in 20 minutes” which turned into 2 hours. They did not offer us a different car instead only offered to add an additional driver for free. Also received a hard time regarding rental insurance through my credit card, the employee kept questioning my rental insurance and pressuring me to buy it through them when I already had it. When we received the car, it was beat up, rusted, tire pressure and check engine light were on. The car overall did well during the trip but I would not rent a car through this company again.Reviewed 29 Jul. 2021

Pick up at the Reykjavik airport was shoddy. 10 people crammed in a van meant for 7 plus if there was only one driver in a family only that driver was taken for the rental car pick up. That driver was then supposed to drive back to the airport to pick up the rest of the family members. The wait time to pick up the car was long (with a token system where processing each token took about 20 minutes). Imagine the wait time if you are 5th in the line (with your family waiting at the airport for you to come and pick them up after you rented the car. The car I was given had already 172000 km on it. Seats were stained and shabby. Since I did not take their insurance I had to pay $3000 as security deposit for that small car (Hyundai i10) and I do not know if that car was worth that price in the 2nd hand car market.Reviewed 11 Jul. 2021

Didn't get the car we chose/were billed forCons:We were a party of 6 adults with 6 pieces of large luggage and 6 pieces of small luggage. We requested, had a confirmation and paid for a Toyota Sienna van with room for 7 adults and lots of luggage, but received a Citroen Picasso with room for 6 adults and no luggage. There was nothing else available at pick up and there was nothing they could do to make it better. Would not provide a roof rack unless we paid for the rental of it. We were therefore extremely crowded and uncomfortable for the entire time of the rental. The rental location was very hard to find as it was not at the airport as expected, where all the other rental companies were located. Would never rent from them again.Reviewed 6 Jul. 2018

Not the best valuePros:Staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. Insurance was offered at a reasonable rate.Cons:Rental was actually through Fair Car, not Economy Rent a Car. While somewhat cheaper than other large car options, we still paid a lot for a car that was a tight squeeze for five people and our luggage. We changed the pick up by only a few hours, which led to a noticeable change in price. After it was all said and done, the car was almost $200 more than expected. It looks like we were originally quoted a price in euros, not US dollars and local taxes were omitted.Reviewed 23 May 2017

Pros:Cheap and fair.Cons:We were not informed that the Iceland Economy Car Rental company does a "pick up service" since their building is not in the airport. This meant we were not looking for the driver when we landed and missed him. This created great confusion as we did not have cell service there to contact the company and had to find airport help.Reviewed 6 May 2017
