Pickup and dropoff are dealt in the most inefficient time consuming way. Car was not ready at pickup time. counter agent did what she could to help but it took over an hour an a half to get vehicle. With insurance and deposit, cost of rental was excessive (time and ahalf the prie of the rental rate) Returning vehicle took 20 minutes. Rental terminal has a laughably small parking lot that is supposed to be both for pickup and dropoff for 6 or 7 different companies so even getting in and out is a messReviewed 25 Jan. 2022

When picking up the car, we were a few hours late for pick up. They said they already rented out the car and we would have to take an upgrade, the upgrade would cost almost three times what the original rental cost was. I declined and went into emergency planning mode of where we could stay for the night with out a rental car and then find one in the morning. Once they realized that we were not going to pay for an upgrade, suddenly a downgrade was available. Which though it was not what I wanted, was a suitable option. We agreed to it, she said it would be 1/2 hour to get it cleaned/car wash, we waited. Then when we went out to the car, turns out it was not a downgrade it was the exact car we had booked to begin with, also, it was dry to the bone, so I have a feeling they did not wash it and the option we booked had been available all the time. Over all, it should not be that hard to pick up the car you initially booked with out additional fees. Then when going out to the car I took a video as I always do for proof of condition, and there were a considerable number of dents and scratches, including a crack in the windshield and the knob to the stereo missing. I explicitly asked her to mark those as issues on the carbon copy inspection paper and recorded them, and I am happy I did as they tried to change me for both of those upon returning the car. Over all this experience further solidified my belief that car rental agencies are sharks that are trying to scam every dollar out of you that they can. It is sad to have to play games like this when on vacation just to pick up a car you have already paid for.Reviewed 14 Jan. 2022

The customer service is poor. Rented a car and paid for it in advanced. At pick ip the car was already rented to someone else. Had to get a smaller car and then wanted to charge me for the same amount of a bigger car. Staff cant resolve anything. Does not give you a resolution. Good car doesn't make up for insurance scam and poor customer servicePros:We had a Ford Explorer SUV that was able to fit our big group and was clean, drove perfectly, it would have been a 5 star review had there not been poor service with Europcar and the insurance scam they pulled on usCons:I rented a SUV from Europcar through carrentals.com I purchased the insurance package through car rentals and when I go to Punta Cana they told me that for the SUV I cannot have the insurance I bought, I must purchase Europcar's insurance package. They also said that they DID NOT have it in writing as to where that actual company policy exists. They also did not have any paperwork that showed the different insurance packages. It seemed very sketchy and when I asked if there was a supervisor to speak to the guy said he was the supervisor. My rental went from being $375 to almost $700 with the little insurance scam. I emailed Europcar's customer service the day it happened, after my 7 day trip I still had not heard anything and still two weeks later have not heard from them.Reviewed 30 Oct. 2018

Bait & SwitchPros:Because Europcar didn't have the same car I reserved, they gave me a similar one that may have been an upgrade.Cons:Insisted I pay for insurance which tripled the cost of this rental.
