Pros:The service from Diloné at the pickup location in Punta Cana was excellent, he was very cordial and attentive.Cons:It really seems that regular wear and tear on the appearance of the vehicle is what gets considered as "damages" to the vehicle. Dings and scratches smaller than the size of a dime are all considered damages. There was a minor, hardly noticeable crack in a taillight that was being considered as damage done by me at dropoff; fortunately I had taken pictures and videos of the car at pickup and was able to proof that this hard to see crack was there when I picked up the car. That still cost me valuable time at dropoff or could have also cost me quite a bit of out of pocket cash.Reviewed 19 Jan. 2021

Pros:Convenience, dropped it off at a different locationCons:The insurance we reserved was a joke. It was 10 dollars a day on the Kayak site only to find out when we got to the Hertz facility they wanted to charge more for insurance than the entire car rental price. We had 2 dents on the car that I told the hertz guy about. He saw them and agreed, but didn't add them to the damage sheet! So, at the other end, they are trying to charge us for dents that I have pictures of on my phone! The language barrier was a joke. If I have to pay for damage that was already on the car, I'll be coming back to Hertz for this.Reviewed 27 Jan. 2020

Pros:Absolutely nothing. This was the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had, which is unusual considering I often use Hertz.Cons:There was only one agent at the counter and he took forever to process the customer before me. Then they only informed me that they only had a larger vehicle left abs would not honor my reservation price.Reviewed 18 Apr. 2021

By far the worst experience I've had with HertzPros:The car was large enough to fit 3 people and all the luggage comfortably.Cons:I was given a price of $202 when I rented the car.I spoke to a Hertz Club Gold booking agent and they confirmed the price. Once I arrived at the Punta Cana airport: 1.) We waited over 45 minutes for someone to help us. There was nobody at the counter for 30 minutes. Then someone was who was helping another customer walked up, completely ignoring us. She was extremely slow and looked very inexperienced. Another Hertz representative showed up about 15-20 minutes later. 2.) The representative that helped us said that the price we received from the Hertz Club Gold member was just to reserve the car and the price of the car is actually more. I showed him my email receipt and he still said that's not what it shows on his screen. After that, he started adding all of these additional charges including insurance, gas option and a 28% tax. I told him I wanted to decline the insurance and gas options and he said that I could not an that I had to because it's a law in the Dominican Republic.I told him that none of this was ever communicated to me and I would have changed my travel plans to not use a rental car if I knew this was the case. I was stuck at this point and needed to pay for the car which now has cost me around $300 additional to the $202 I originally reserved. 3.) The car I was given was in terrible shape. Not only were there dents on the exterior but the inside was dirty and there were stains all over the seats. The driver side floor mat was not meant for the car. It partially covered the gas pedal and made it dangerous to drive. on top of all of this, the tires were bald and the car slide many times when I was braking. I have pictures of the dents in the exterior, floor mat and tires as proof. Additionally, I was only given the key to the car and not given the keyless entry module. This was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had renting a car and I was expecting much better service and vehicle since I was renting through Hertz. Also, the website and Hertz Club Gold representative should have explained the insurance and tax scams before renting the car. I will not be using Hertz in the future due to this experience.Reviewed 23 Feb. 2017

Reservation wasn't honored and we ended up with aPros:Nothing - this was the worst rental experience I've hadCons:Hertz didn't have cars available and we were left stranded and had to rent a walk in car at dollar. This felt like a scam since hertz tried redirecting us to thrifty for. Much higher price and refused to honor the price or cover the price differential - I will be sure to write my experience on Social mediaReviewed 1 Jan. 2016

Bad experiencePros:This was my third trip to the Dominican this year and third car rental. They charged me $29.95 a day for insurance. On two previous trips that I was charged $9.95 by two other rental companies. I rented a GPS. It did not work. So I paid $15 a day for a device that did not work. They would not make an adjustment. The van was dirty when I picked it up. I will not rent from Hertz again unless this is taken care of.Reviewed 28 Dec. 2015

Lack of straight answers, but reliable ridePros:Car functioned extremely well. You don't want an unreliable ride in the Dominican Republic. It had great pickup and tiptronic option (Alfa Romeo Guilliette).Cons:The car we booked wasn't available, so they offered one level up for the same price when we picked the car up. When we returned it, we had to pay for the upgrade which was different that what we were offered at the beginning. It ended up costing an extra $10/day x 5, and the manager was unwilling to make any changes. Felt like a bait & switch.Reviewed 6 Mar. 2016

Renting car at Punta Cana airport is a scamCons:We rented through Hertz, figuring it was an international company with a solid reputation. We prepaid for the reservation. We arrived on the first flight of the day into Punta Cana and we were the first to make it to the rental desk, noting our name on their list of renters. The Hertz agent mulled this over for a while and then announced he had no cars to rent. He referred us to the Thrifty booth next to him. Their agent offered me a car at triple the price I agreed to pay through Kayak. Hertz offered no solutions, no transportation to my destination and no advise on when they might have a car for rent. We finally got a $70/day rattling compact car from Dollar, and felt fortunate at that. This was a scam from the start, an agreement among the rental agents to play a bait and switch game.Reviewed 27 Dec. 2015

AwfulCons:I arrived in the Domican and they did not have the car I reserved available to me. I was traveling with 7 people and needed the 7 passenger I reserved. I had two small children with me and counted on having a big and safe car in a country notorious for it's terrible drivers They were not apologetic and suggested that I rent two smaller cars from them for double the price total. No way. I moved on to another vendor. I will never rent from Hertz again. NOT COOL!Reviewed 27 Mar. 2016
