Pros: Cheap price
Cons: There wasn't any information about £50 deposit until we arrived. Deposit meant to be paid back in 7 to 10 days and never happened. When I tried to call ms Maria she text me she's on a conference call and requested a text instead of a call. Her answer regarding my deposit was "Hi, so the deposit is a pre authorisation which is a hold on the card. This can usually take around 7-10 working days to be released. However, you can contact your card issuer who may be able to help you further. I hope this helps. Kind regards Maria " Highly not recommended place in entire westcliff and southend area.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Roni was amazing; I arrived early & asked if it was possible to check in early as I needed to get to work. She facilitated this very quickly & efficiently. Even though I wasn't able to access the room (due to cleaners being in there), she was happy for me to keep the keys so I didn't have to try and check in when I finished work. Room was clean & comfortable; my partner & I slept really well & weren't disturbed by anyone else moving round the hotel. We paid for late check out in & didn't see a soul when we left!
Cons: The surprise deposit wasn't exactly ideal. While I completely understand that sometimes this is necessary, I feel that between the hotel & booking.com there could be some kind of communication with you when you book to stay to avoid getting there & then having to make a further payment.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good price and location for what we needed. Staff were friendly on arrival and checkout. I would recommend staying here.

Pros: Comfortable & nice
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely location, Lovely Jubbly
Cons: Shower needed some TLC‼️
6.0 Good
Pros: We previously stayed here 46 years ago on our wedding night so when road conditions were treacherous due to snow and we had tickets to see Katherine Ryan at the Cliffs Pavilion (which is within walking distance) we made a last minute reservation. Sadly the show was cancelled but as we had already paid for the hotel we stayed anyway. We got a free upgrade to a superior sea view room which was great. All the staff were really helpful and our evening meal and breakfast were both good. The decor however is somewhat dated and could do with some modernisation.
Cons: Unfortunately there was water on floor in the bathroom which we discovered was from a leak at the base of the sink tap. We put a towel there and that would have then been fine except the following morning when we wanted to have a bath we discovered that even though the plug had been taken out the night before the water was still in the bath!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A bit small the room but for the budget was fine, great location
Cons: Small room, no phone at the rooms

Pros: We can come and go as we please. Parking space too.
Cons: The room needs decorating and throughly cleaning. The walls had dirty hand marks on the walls. We found someones clothes in the wardrobe. The bed was extremely uncomfortable along with the pillows and the were bed bugs. The shower was falling apart aswell as the taps on the sink. The room temperature couldn't be adjusted either. We also found that not all the plug sockets worked properly.

Cons: It’s dirt,my, uncared for and really shabby. The rooms smell and the bathroom was worse, just a general impression of they couldn’t give a hoot about the upkeep. Dirty socks left in room, fridge and cutlery filthy. Bedside drawer had half eaten box of mouldy Maltesers in it.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms good size Beds Comfortable. Staff pleasant and helpful.Food very good ( and particularly for young children) near Adventure Island and the beachfront restaurants.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location... reception lad was very helpful
Cons: Room was very dusty ... cleaners obviously didnt polish it ....
7.0 Good
Pros: The building from outside is exceptional as it is very old. The inside is ok but doesn’t reflect the beauty on the outside. The staff are lovely and helpful. The views of the pier and sea from my room are amazing. The room was comfortable and fairly clean.
Cons: The toilet doesn’t flush very well. Some of the attachments in the bathroom are loose e.g the shower head holder and toilet roll holder. But these things could be fixed easily. The carpets in the property need to be renewed and a lick of paint is needed in some areas, as well as repairs to doors and walls in corridors.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location, the vibe, the value for money, the staff ( Shout out to James, in particular) the room with the view.... So sad to leave......
Cons: Rather overpriced bar prices
6.0 Good
Pros: The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable and large. I asked for a quiet room and this request was met.
Cons: The hotel clearly needs refurbishment. The bathroom was run down. The toilet didn't flush properly, the shower needed re-sealing. The front door lock was broken. Unfortunately the biggest issue was the lack of cleanliness. The shower had scummy tiles that clearly hadn't been cleaned properly in some time. The toilet smelled like it wasn't properly clean and both chairs were very dirty, with questionable stains on the armchair and a desk chair that was sticky until I cleaned it. The bed sheets had what looked like a fresh coffee stain on them, not welcoming. I ordered room service and was sent a small bowl of icecream that wasn't the brand on the menu, with a dirty spoon and a £3 charge to bring it to my room, totalling £8.50 for a small bowl of low quality icecream. Not pleasing. Due to faulty security cards, I had to request a new room key 3 times and noted that because it wasn't working, the fire doors were being propped open to allow guests to enter their floors. Staff were always very friendly, and helpful, but the facilities are letting them down. The hotel isn't worth the money I paid in its current state.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room service excellent, concierge very helpful.
Cons: Think it was overpriced, especially the food in the restaurant... It was like paying London prices.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Giving carpark discount for over night stay was helpfull. Good choice of breakfast buffet and very helpfull staff
Cons: The coldness of the room on arrival other that that the room was clean and comfortable with a seaview

5.4 Okay
Pros: It was situated on the sea front.
Cons: The mattress was very lumpy & uncomfortable. The toilet & shower suffered from blocked waste pipes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room 11, superior triple room was absolutely lovely. Would definitely return and would definitely recommend. Very spacious room and loved the balcony, it is bigger than others in Southend. Lucy was absolutely fantastic upon arrival, very accommodating and friendly. Very clean bathroom and enjoyed the television in the room. Enjoyed the use of mini fridge, hair dryer, iron and wardrobe in the room. Happy overall!
Cons: WiFi was not working. There is a broken spring coming out of the side of the mattress, which poked me in the side of the leg while sitting so not very comfortable (the side closest to the door entrance)... however my partner thought the bed was comfortable. Please replace the mattress as I really do want to return.
1.0 Poor
Pros: When we eventually settled in, we were vaguely comfortable in the room. The shower was good. The lights worked. The bed was quite comfy.
Cons: We arrived to a bad start. I telephoned the establishment two days before our arrival to book an extra night (the Friday night). I was told that the booking was all okay. We went to check in and were told that no booking existed, by an owner managing all bookings on her iPhone. She scrambled around for a spare room. She offered us a room telling us there was a sea view and that it was worth £120 per night, but it was good because she got us a good deal of £100 for the night. I refused to pay this as we came prepared to pay £65 for the night, as told over the phone a few days prior. We were then shoved in an empty room by the front door, which was definitely not worth £65 per night. We looked online for the room that we were told was £120. There was no room at the Waverly that was £120, or even £100 for the night. We were lied to so more money could be taken. We were not happy about this and felt on edge about our accommodation for the rest of the evening. We also had moments where we came out of our room to a smell of fresh cigarette in the hallway. Despite the 'no smoking' signs on the walls. Moving on, the wifi did not work for our entire stay. I went and asked a member of staff and was told to use next doors. HOWEVER, the Waverly did not have permission to use Pebbles Guest House's Wifi. I found this out as I asked for the passcode. I was told that they do not know it, but try a number of different phrases. I was not comfortable with this. The staff member then came in to our room to show us how to get the wifi to work. The wifi never worked. Overall, we were not happy with our stay and would not recommend this hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: Room with sea view , sea front near tourist spots
Cons: No lobby , no breakfast .
6.0 Good
Pros: The view, balcony, comfy bed clean and tidy room more than adequate for a weekend break.
Cons: The bathroom lacked a hand shower it was very difficult to rinse your hair in the bath the tap was a hidden filler tap which was all very nice but made rinsing your hair (in this day and age) with the plastic jug provided the jug had to be filled at the wash hand basin difficult if you are a solo traveler and no bathroom toiletries provided this needs to be advertised before hand.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There are many guest houses in Southend but the Waverley stands out. We’ve now stayed in rooms 10 and 11. The balcony is a great addition to these rooms and you have uninterrupted views of the Essex Riviera. The rooms are comfortable, clean and homely. Lucy who owns it is a legend, nothing is to much trouble and makes you feel very welcome.
Cons: No breakfast but a pub within 30second walk who do one.
5.7 Okay
Pros: Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.
6.0 Good
Pros: The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very friendly owner and freshly decorated.
5.7 Okay
Pros: Very friendly owners
5.7 Okay
Pros: Location. Breakfast. Owners.
Cons: Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed
5.6 Okay
Pros: Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset
Cons: Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble
6.4 Good
Pros: Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away.
Cons: None

9.0 Excellent
Pros: every thing wonderful
3.7 Mediocre
Pros: The staff seemed nice
Cons: Although it is not far from the airport, it is not possible to walk to the airport. I travelled on the train and had to get a taxi from the train and then in the morning back to the airport (c. £7.50 each way) . Consider this when compared to the other airport hotels. - The two big problems with the hotel were- 1. The carpet in my room was physically soaked by the door to the bathroom. I did not realise to just before I was going to sleep as I had my shoes on before. I left very early in the morning and there was nobody at reception to tell them in the morning. I had read a number of reviews saying that the place smelled like there had been a flood. It would seem to me that the issue is more fundamental, whether it's a plumbing or a ground water issue, there are some serious issues. 2. More annoying probably, the WiFi didn't work. I needed to do some work and had to tether to my phone to get any internet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great little hotel approximately 5 minutes from airport in a cab. The staff were very helpful and even cooked me a lovely meal after arriving late in the evening. They ordered my taxi for 5ams back to the airport on my arrival. Nothing was too much bother. To be honest it was more than I expected from a 3* hotel! Thank you

Pros: The reception booked a cab for us and it appeared on time.

Pros: The room was lovely: beautifully decorated and with a very comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom. The location was perfect, in a quiet area but close to the town centre. Wonderful breakfast and a very nice breakfast room. The very best thing about our stay were the hosts, Penny and Gary, who were warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. They manage just the right pitch of being friendly but non-intrusive and made our stay both enjoyable and completely stress free.
Cons: The shower could be updated a little but really that's just being fussy.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: great location and nice room
8.0 Excellent
10.0 Excellent

3.8 Mediocre
4.0 Okay

1.0 Poor
Pros: We can come and go as we please. Parking space too.
Cons: The room needs decorating and throughly cleaning. The walls had dirty hand marks on the walls. We found someones clothes in the wardrobe. The bed was extremely uncomfortable along with the pillows and the were bed bugs. The shower was falling apart aswell as the taps on the sink. The room temperature couldn't be adjusted either. We also found that not all the plug sockets worked properly.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location
Cons: Good
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Location was ok but that’s the only thing going or this hotel. It’s dirty, uncared for and really shabby. The rooms smell and the bathroom was worse, just a general impression of they couldn’t give a hoot about the upkeep.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Rotten food in the fridge. Dust absolutely everywhere
