I went at 9:15 AM, Jan 4, to Hilton Hotel, Alexandria (5000 Seminary Road), to pick up my rental car. There was one person ahead of me. There was one Budget staff member who told me that I would have to wait at least an hour for him to remove all the snow from the road and the car (there was a snow storm the previous day)! While he could have had me sign the papers and get two cars ready at the same time, he told me to wait for a bit, locked the office and went away for 40 minutes. In the meantime, a group of six of us were gathered around the office waiting to either return or pick up a car. I called the local contact number on the front door to check my options, but had to leave a voicemail. Five minutes later, a person next to me called the same number and had her query responded right away! Three hours later, at 12;15 PM, he handed me the keys and pointed in a general direction and said, "keep walking, you will see the silver Nissan." I slipped several times on the ice as I walked 200 feet to the car. When I saw the car, the staff had given me a dirty Nissan Sentra when I had signed up for a Volkswagen Jetta (one level higher). The inside of the car was dirty and smelled of cigarette. It was clear that he had just given me a car that someone had just returned. I didn't have the time to go back and get another car as my family was waiting to drive back to Ohio. While the single member was slammed with customers, he didn't have to give me a stinky dirty car. And the owners of this franchise will remiss in getting backup staff, all the time knowing that the snowstorm would disrupt things. This is, by far, the worst car rental experience in my life.Reviewed 5 Jan. 2022

FAR More than expected!Pros:We were delighted with the vehicle we received! It was clean, well-maintained, had lots of amenities, and an outstanding deal for the price! The staff were polite, friendly, answered our questions, and went out of their way to ensure the rental arrangements fit our needs. Great DealPros:Having never rented a car I wasn't sure of the whole process or cost but it ended up working out great! I was able to tap into a special so the price was right and the car (compact/small 4-door) was as expected. The only thing that concerned me was no one walked me out to the car to do a once-over. I noticed damage on the exterior and dirt on the interior so I promptly took photos to cover myself. Overall the car was good on gas mileage and drop-off was seamless (easier than anticipated). Would definitely rent from Budget again :)Cons:No walk-through/once-over of the car upon . Damage to exterior. Dirty interior. Needed a car wash. No auxiliary input.Reviewed 22 Feb. 2016
