Pros: Very slow to get the car
Cons: The aircon was not working. It was extremely hot. I needed to drive far and it was terrible. Tried getting a replacement sent out. Didn’t hear back from call Centre

dollar rental car - misleading info
Pros: staff at DOLLAR Capetown was very friendly.
Cons: car shown on your website FIAT 500 Mini was NOT available, as per the DOLLAR office in Capetown, they do not rent any FIATs in their fleet. The car given was a DATSUN GO, even though spacious, there was a very cheap and unsafe feeling to the vehicle. Also, the rate indicated on the KAYAK website was not accurate, there was a local payment of taxes and fees, increasing the rate. And, a deposit of 4,000 ZAR was required to rent the vehicle, which was also not indicated on the KAYAK website.

Cancelled booking with no communication
Pros: -
Cons: I called to confirm by booking the day of arrival, and was told by the representative from Dollar that the booking had been cancelled because they had not been able to confirm it by calling me. Given I booked through priceline/kayak and received a confirmation email the day before the rental, it seems odd for them to cancel the booking. Really a negative booking experience.

Additional charges
Pros: The people at the counter were great: they struggled because the system was down, but went all the way to provide the best service possible.
Cons: After we returned the car without any issues, we discovered additional charges to our credit card , even though we settled the bill at pick up. These charges include VAT and an airport charge. Their regular fee was higher than the price we got through Kayak and it feels as if they try to recover their loss this way. Why would you charge for the car and charge for VAT later? Makes no sense. A pity, because the staff was excellent, but the last time for us. We will rent elsewhere.

A sad joke
Pros: Nothing
Cons: I booked a full size SUV - the example vehicle was a Chevy Tahoe. I actually accepted to pay more for the full size, than for a smaller Toyota RAV 4 or similar. First they wanted to give me a Hyundai Van. Seriously? Then they told me they don’t have large SUVs and gave me a Nissan similar to the RAV 4. This is totally unacceptable as I was paying more to get a bigger SUV. Given it’s the second time I have issues with Dollar Thrifty these companies are now on my blacklist.

Cons: Upon arrival the car was not available. I had to rent another car on the spot, and afterwards found out I had been charged twice.

Over Charged
Cons: When I booked the car on line, the total cost was 212 ZAR. When I picked the car up, I had to pay 301 ZAR, which included 52.63 ZAR contract fee and they threw in a VAT of 37.05 ZAR. Very disappointed!
