Pros: I have stayed at Albert at bay a couple times and enjoyed each stay. Never any problems. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Hotel is within walking distance of down town. I really love the kitchen and spacious spaces. This is a great hotel for families staying for a few days to see the city because you can offset the price of the room by having some meals, snacks etc in your room with the well equipped kitchen.

Pros: It said "Suite." I thought, "sure." But it was a REAL SUITE. A fully equipped kitchen. An ample dining table. A living room with with sofa and TV. A huge room with two Queen sized beds. AMAZINGLY comfortable.

Pros: Sure, we could have stayed at the Sheraton in Centretown (in fact, we have previously), but for basically the same price, we got a real suite: two bathrooms, a large dining/sitting area, kitchen, and balcony. Now, we didn't really need all of those amenities, but it was nice to sprawl out on the couch to watch TV and munch on leftovers from Good Eats (a great little restaurant down the street), rather than sit on our bed like we would at a regular hotel. The rooms were clean. The setting was quiet, even though we were still on the edge of Centretown. And the fitness center was quite good. If you like warm cookies or mood music in your lobby, then you might be disappointed. Otherwise, this is a very good hotel option to compare against the other downtown chain hotels, and a terrific option if you are considering an extended stay.

Pros: The location is incredible, I couldn't ask for better in the heart of the Byward Market. Indigo parking is cheap too $11/Day... I've seen over $20/day in ottawa. We had a room with a balcony, and I loved it. The room's are clean, and the bed was very comfortable.

Room was small but functional and clean. Gym was a little disappointing, but had treadmills eliptical and some weight machines. It was fine for a short stay, but not much more. Pros: We expected a hotel room, but we got a small apartment with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The amenities have been updated and were quite adequate. It is an older building and the hallways and elevators are dated, but don't let that fool you, the room was very nice. I especially liked that they had very large screen TVs in the living room and bedroom on regular Rogers Cable, not the crappy Hotel system that won't let you watch regular TV in HD. Breakfast was excellent with a large variety of options and EXCELLENT coffee. They didn't mention it, but there is a second room for breakfast across the hall on the other side of the elevators if the main dining room is crowded. Easy walking distance to Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, and the ByWard Market

Pros: During my five night stay, every single staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and polite, and unbelievably helpful. I've never been to any business, hotel or otherwise, where the staff have been so good. The room had beautiful wall to wall and floor to ceiling windows. It was always very quiet. The AC worked like a charm, which was great bevause it was 30 degrees outside most days we were there. The gym and pool were nice. On Canada Day the hotel let all the guests onto the top floors, which have a 360 degree view of the city, so we could watch the fireworks.
Cons: Not many complaints. There was no microwave in the room and the ice machine was located on the floor below mine. It wasn't as close to the downtown action as some of the other hotels, but it wasn't too far out of the way either.

Pros: What a wonderful experience! Sleeping in a REAL JAIL for three days was something I won't ever forget! It was so amazing to see how prisoners lived prior to 1970 in the Canadian Penal system.

Pros: Very interesting & fun experience. Great location within easy walking distance to Parliament, museums, shopping, great restaurants. Eerily interesting, it feels like a jail, & the history is rather creepy, but great use for an awesome historic building. Staff was excellent, breakfast good, people from all over the world. I came for one night, stayed for two!

Pros: Glass of wine in the evening was nice.
Cons: Lack of curtain or window screen. Only a blackout shade was available so either your window was open for two very close buildings to peer into or your room was dark. Also the hotel was a little worn and the carpet needed a shampoo.

Cons: The staff could not speak French. The room was obviously cleaned too fast the bed was poorly made and the bathroom was a bit dirty. There was a lot of dust on the furniture. There was no terrasse and no pool. There was no recycle bin in the room. The strong chemical perfume in the lobby.

Pros: The hotel is in a great location. It is a short walk from Elgin Street and Bank Street, where there are great shops and restaurants. Very convenient.
Cons: When we arrived, there was no power in the hotel. Of course this is not their fault, but we weren't even informed by the concierge when checking in, it was the teenage doorman who told us that there was no power. Not a great first impression. When they checked us in, they sent us to an occupied room which was absolutely mortifying. The next morning we woke up and noticed that there was a blood stain on the top sheet.. that was not from my partner or I. We immediately called and asked for the sheets to be changed, and informed them we were heading out for the rest of the day. When we returned back to the hotel hours later, the sheets had not been changed. Totally disgusting. The next morning my partner decided to stay in Ottawa one extra day, and wanted to stay in the room an extra night (it was close to everything and his stuff was already there). When we went downstairs to pay the extra charge, they took an ADDITIONAL deposit. Totally ridiculous as they still had a deposit from the first two nights. Definitely would not stay here again! The location was great but there were far too many issues.

Cons: None of the dining options were very affordable, and breakfast is not included.

Lord Elgin is steps away from the Rideau Canal; the world's longest skating rink in the winter and a beautiful waterway in the summer; the Shaw Centre, Parliament Buildings, and Ottawa Rideau Centre.

Pros: The convenient location is the only redeeming thing about this hotel.
Cons: For years I have wanted to stay at this hotel -- I finally had the opportunity and was sorrly disappointed by the way I was spoken to and treated by front desk staff. I asked reasonable questions and said please and thank you and was treated with "...yes but you booked this on-line". As if to say I was not worthy of decent service because I booked my room on-line at the last minute." My room was not as described when I booked and I would suggest the Hotel Management double check what On-Line Travel Services are offering on behalf of their hotel - so that people are not mis-lead and then asking your snobby Front Desk staff about what was promised and then not offered. I would have to say the price for a room is definitely not worth it. Rooms are dated and smaller than reviews and photos. The Lord Elgin did not live up to any of my expectations -- the Front Desk staff could do with better customer service training. However, BellMen/Valet staff and Housekeeping were delightful.

Pros: I liked the location and the decor of the lobby. Most of the staff are very friendly and professional. The food in the restaurant was great and well worth the price.
Cons: My tv in the room did not work (no sound on the tv) It eventually got fixed, but took some time staring at the walls in the mean time. The pillows were very thin and cheap, I would highly recommend buying somm good quality pillows that are firm so guests would get a better sleep. At night I had little bites all over me, so I am not sure if I was allergic to the mattress or the laundry detergent they use. The parking service is extremely expensive and it takes a long time for the parking attendants to move all of the cars underground to get to yours, so that is not a very modern or efficient system.
