It's a big ask, but Budget might want to consider putting snow tires on their vehicles during the winter months. I absolutely loved the Mini Countryman I got for my rental, but had more than a few white-knuckle moments during a pretty moderate snowfall because the sporty tires were absolutely useless off of dry asphalt. I think the cost of winter tires would be hugely offset by the avoidance of some winter-related accidents.

I was greeted with a smile. The check in took only a few minutes. The vehicle was clean and in good condition. The agent made excellent notes of a few minor body damage. It was nice to know the damage was noticed and that I would not be charged for it. I will definitely rent from Budget again.

Several additional fees added on top of quoted price which was the equivalent of an extra 35%. Very disappointing and dishonest to have a cost quoted on kayak as the “total cost” to then have it cost so much more.

Worst experience of my life for several reasons: I saw the prices in Canadian dollars on the website and chose accordingly, but on the delivery day, He told I had to pay in US dollars. On the delivery day, there was no explanation given about the extra charge for not refueling, and we returned the car with a half tank of gas. You charged us two and a half times the amount. The service quality is very poor. As a result, I am currently pursuing this issue with the management and will see it through to the end if my money damages are not reimbursed.

Cons:

Despite booking an intermediate on Kayak, the Avis received my booking as a compact. Thankfully, Avis found an intermediate car for me at a nearby location for no extra charge, which I appreciated. Seems like a miscommunication between the Kayak and Avis systems.

Cons:

We received quite a larger vehicle than booked as the type of vehicle we had booked was not available so I think the vehicle should have been the correct size. Also, the vehicle had Florida license plates and being in Canada and driving, because of the travel restrictions and people’s heightened stress, we didn’t feel comfortable driving in Canada with the Florida plates under Covid.

Pros:

Noone was there when I dropped the car off. I found papertowel (used) in the car. Not acceptable at all given this is a Covid pandemic. I was told after I had booked the car that Costco members get a discount. The agents never really tell you about any features or benefits. When I showed up the woman was not there so I had to wait for her.

The staff was okay. I was told the car was a new model but when I got in the car it smelled like marijuana. The AC was on and this is what it smelled like.

It was hard to get a hold of them in the morning. I was on hold for 30+ minutes. I gave up as I was first in line according to the recording. I called back and no one called me back. At noon I left a message and none called me back. At 2 I called and finally spoke to someone. Once I spoke to someone it was excellent from there all the way through.

The car was too big. I asked for a smaller one but didn’t get it. The car stalled twice during my two day rental. On drop off, I asked for a courtesy ride home…literally a 9 min drive and they said they couldn’t. The Europcar operates out of Routes. I won’t use them again.

TERRIBLE, I arrived to pick-up the car rental and they told me that it was cancelled days before. I never did cancelled. I paid two taxis for nothing and with the inconvenience of having NO car. My daughter and I exhausted after sooo many hours traveling in two planes from Europe to Ottawa.

Kayak's description AND the confirmation both say that the Europcar location is in the Ottawa airport, but this is a total lie. It is FAR away and requires travelers to call for a shuttle, which takes 15 minutes to get there. I waited outside in freezing Ottawa for a van to take me another 15 minutes away to a ROUTES(!!!) rental location. I SPECIFICALLY didn't want a Routes car because they suck as a rental agency. I then had to sign a million pieces of paper like it was 1985 and waited an obscene amount of time in an ugly rental agency. I consider this entire experience to be a scam due to the false advertising. To add insult to injury, there was a no refund/no cancelation policy. I feel duped by Kayak and this rental agency. I will literally never rent a car from Europcar or Routes in my life again. I would rather Uber everywhere even if it cost 50 times more than the price of a rental.

Absolutely terrible experience and will never use Turo. Apparently the car we had arranged months before was smashed two weeks before we we due to pick it up. Trouble is, no one told us until we were on the Eurostar on the way to get it. They had had our money for ages. Seems like the owner, Luke, was trying to get Turo to make up the difference and hire us his more expensive alternative (a Porsche, which I wouldn’t want anyway). Turo “help” line was totally unhelpful. Couldn’t end the deal; couldn’t refund without us getting on to another department (hard on a foreign phone). They can’t call you…. So it was impossible to organise an alternative. If there is a problem with a car hire company, they just replace it. Turo was more expensive and unable to fix a problem. Never again.
