San Francisco Proper Hotel is one of the more exciting and sophisticated Starwood properties in the City by the Bay. Its central location, fabulous beds, and nice in-room amenities make the older neighborhood worth the stay. Even Forbes and Travel & Leisure say it’s the city’s hippest hotel.
The Proper is located on the corner of Market and McAllister streets in a historic flatiron building that was built in 1904. A stay at the hotel allows for convenient city tourism and is a quick walk to the BART and a short drive to the freeways. However, it’s only a short walk to the Civic Center, the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera and the offices of several major tech firms, including Twitter.
Guests and locals alike come to the hotel for the variety and selection of bars and restaurants under one roof. The day begins at La Bande for a delicious and easy breakfast, Villon provides a great lunch, and Charmaine’s offers a nice dinner with panoramic rooftop views. Other on-site amenities include a fitness room and multiple meeting spaces with loads of convenient features.
The 131 ultrachic rooms and suites are tailored to fit the demands of a modern city traveler. The cloud-like beds are always the number one hit with guests and extras like curated minibars come in a close second. Smart-TVs and WiFi come standard, as does designer toiletries. Rooms range in sizes and amenities, and some offer sofas and bunk beds while Suites offer city views.
