Poor picking up, easy to drop off.Pros:-The car was clean and in good condition -Dropping the car off was a snapCons:-Picking up the car was a nightmare. The location would have greatly benefited from a couple of well placed signs, or a painted arrow or two on the ground instructing where you go once you walk into the building. As soon as you walk in, there are two different desks and zero indication on which one you need to visit to pick up your reservation. Poor execution, there were people standing around everywhere (no designated waiting area for people waiting for their vehicles) and the staff was vastly overwhelmed and passive. -There was no indication that there was a credit check when using a Debit card, nor that I needed a second form of identification WITH my driver's license. If I did not have my passport with me I would have been in a seriously difficult situation and most likely would have had to seek a car elsewhere -The amount of paperwork and hoops I had to complete even WITH a reservation was ridiculous. I should be able to walk in, pick up the keys and walk out. Simple as that, instead I had to listen to a customer service rep for almost 30 minutes on a computer screen -Once the representative actually handed me the keys to go get my car, the only information that was given to me was the parking spot number. This is fine, only there were over 500+ parking spots and very poor indication on how the parking lot was set up. Again- a sign or map would have been helpful and a time-saverReviewed 16 May 2017

Excessive wait at pick-upCons:I picked my rental up at the Detroit Airport (DTW) on Sunday, 11/20 around 7pm. There was a short line to see an associate. The associate took my reservation information and then told me it was "processing" and I should wait in the lobby. After waiting for about 15 minutes, I walked back to the associate to ask for an update. She then walked over to another phone and called for my SUV. I got the impression that when it was "processing" she didn't make the call until I asked. The manger was in the lobby shortly after and made some jokes about the cold and how the SUV was parked in the middle of all these other sized cars and that no one listens to him to park the same sized vehicles together. He was friendly and apologetic but that didn't change the fact that we waited over 45 minutes for our car.Reviewed 23 Nov. 2016

Too few agents, too little A/C, out-of-order kiosksCons:Detroit airport staff at Hertz pickup--only 2 agents, kiosks didn't work, could not read bar codes on NY state licenses, credit card approval issues, confirmation phone calls required for EVERY customer. All 20 customers on line were from NYC, so we all had to wait for an agent. Ridiculous!--4 kiosks were USELESS. Two women agents were as nice as they could be, but it is NOT FAIR to them. Fix your Kiosk software. Don't automate if you can't make the process work online. Give the human agents at the HERTZ airport pickup/dropoff, a pay raise. They deserve it. (Not the kiosk online agents--they were not helpful at all. Did not speak clearly. Could not problem solve at all.Reviewed 13 Jun. 2017

Pros:The rental car itself was ok.Cons:Kayak booked my reservation 30 minutes away from the airport. When this was determined by the staff at Hertz Detroit airport, they were unwilling to help arrive at a solution. I had to leave the Hertz area and book through Thrifty/Dollar in order to obtain a rental car. Additionally, the area where I needed to work with the Hertz Detroit airport representative was in a closed in space, making me less comfortable during COVID.Reviewed 1 Sep. 2020

Horrible customer servicePros:The car was fine and the drop off was easyCons:They allowed me to reserve a car with a debit card. When I got there they said they don't take them, but they also wouldn't accept a different card to pay. They said they would have to rebook a reservation that took the price from $123 to $450! When I said I wouldn't pay that price, the person at the counter told me to "call hertz." When I said, "you are hertz" she informed me should couldn't get "tied up on the phone" we were literally the only people there and there was another worker in the back. I had to call the hertz number multiple times and try and get our original price moved to our new reservation. If you don't take debit cards why do you allow someone to reserve with them? If someone reserves with a debit card why can't they pay with a credit card? If you have my original reservation why can't your staff and computers talk to each other to problem solve? The answer: because you want people to be stranded with no car and no other option than to pay and extra $300. I will never use Hertz again.Reviewed 6 Jul. 2016

Pros:Staff was easy but I faced lot of issue with the car. First I was assigned a car which had an issue ( the car registration and number plate didn't match . To be honest, how is that even possible ? ). I was then asked to park the car and a new smaller car was assigned to me which was not clean inside. There were dirty chips particles and smug on the seats . I was getting late so had to take the car and start my journey . Then , on my way it was snowing and there was no wiper fluid in the car. I had to buy it and then refill it in my way. I am very disappointed with he experience.Reviewed 15 Feb. 2021
