Pros:Staff was great.Cons:The vehicle was a pickup with 54,000 miles. It ran fine, but it had dings, dents, bent bumper, 1/32 inch windshield crack. These are are also okay, but it was up to me to identify all of this--there should be a blanket up front disclosure on the truck--unless it's totaled, it's not an issue. It just added to a stressful checkout.Reviewed 20 Apr. 2021

Pros:The DTW agent was friendly but seemed to have too much going on - understaffed, and really tried to please everyone. The chosen car, a Ford Fiesta, was clean, a perfect size to maneuver and comfortable.Cons:Transit from DTW to pick up location was confusing because multiple Car Rentals had been combined. The paperwork did not match what I reserved/paid online. Drop off at MSP drop-off was confusing as no one was directing people on what to do. Customers just stood around and stared at each other asking each other what to do. Finally someone with a handheld computer said just leave the keys in the car after being asked. I still do not know what my final charge will be and have received no paper work or emails finalizing the transaction. MSP seemed totally unstaffed and not monitored by employees.Reviewed 30 Sep. 2020

Pros:Due to Covid, we had to cancel our trip, and this our reservation. Delta refunded all of our money back. Thrifty did not, and blamed it on Kayak. I will now use neither.Cons:Due to Covid, we had to cancel our trip, and this our reservation. Delta refunded all of our money back. Thrifty did not, and blamed it on Kayak. Pros:Nothing.Cons:After 10 hours of traveling I get to Detroit at 2 am with my 5 month old daughter and wife. The clerk tells me that before he can take my money and /or deposit he wants to run a credit check. Now this is problem for 2 reasons. One they had already taken the money for the insurance and I needed proof of my itinerary (which I had). So after running my credit I was denied. They didn't try to extend a solution to me or my family and told me that the only thing they could do was put me and my family back on a shuttle to the airport. I was in town for a funeral and ended up catching an Uber from the airport to my destination. This was a MAJOR inconvenience for not only that night but the funeral too. I WILL NEVER USE THRIFTY.Reviewed 13 Mar. 2017

Good rental but don't prepay for fuel!Pros:The car was in good condition (no cigarette smells) and so was the customer service. The counter representative did not give me attitude when I got back in her line and asked her to remove the pre-pay for fuel. Good vehicle at a very good rate.Cons:I didn't like the pre-pay for fuel offer. It is an unnecessary upsell. At DTW airport the daily rate for gas in their store was $3.03 which I was told was competitive for the area (a simple search on Gas Buddy shows that wasn't true) and then I was told I HAD to refuel my vehicle within 10 miles of the airport AND leave my gas receipt in the car or I'd be charged for the entire pre-pay charge. That's ridiculous. If the car is brought back on full, what difference does it make where I got the gas from? The pre-pay charge was $44.07, which I got removed before I left the building. I drove that car for 3 days and was able to refuel my car for $5.66 at a local gas station. So....definitely not a worthwhile upsell.Reviewed 11 Sep. 2017

Pros:Shuttle Bus drivers were excellentCons:Called Thrifty customer service day before and was told I was no longer a Thrifty Blue Chip member, stood in long line for more than 30 minutes when picking up car, only to find I was indeed a Blue Chip member in good standing and could have avoided the long line and gone directly to Blue Chip Member line with only one other member ahead of me. Person directing customers to cars after transaction were completed at the counter was unable to determine which people were should be served first.Reviewed 9 May 2017

Cons:The Staff was friendly but I booked a Premium car and asked for satellite radio. It was supposed to be a Buick Regal or "similar". On what planet does a Toyota Camry compare to a luxury car and it didn't have satellite radio. The brakes needed work and I didn't feel that safe driving it. When you braked the rotors jerked. The engine hesitated. Maybe that's how Toyotas are?Reviewed 28 Sep. 2020

Pros:Not a thing.Cons:We rented a car for our wedding weekend. After a few days, we started getting calls multiple times a day (still while trying to get married and such!). These calls were very vague as to who was calling us - they would just mention Dollar/Thrifty. They tried telling us they were calling us checking in that we had good service at pick up time (very annoying at this time as I said we were in the midst of getting married). Then they started asking for certain vehicle numbers. We gave them the numbers. They called back yet again asking for more numbers! We called the main number and were told there was no record on our account of having any calls made to us. Of course this worried us thinking maybe someone was scamming us by calling so many times! Over the course of our rental we recieved numerous phone calls asking for various numbers even though we had given the same numbers in the previous phone call. Finally we were told the car was not "checked out" properly when we picked up our rental. I understand mistakes are made, however this is not our fault or problem! To be disturbed multiple times over a vacation (not to mention our wedding!!!), is absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore, rather than calling the primary number on the acct, our emergency contact was called each of these times. I have rented with Dollar/Thrifty before and thought they were an alright company. However, after this experience I have zero intentions of ever giving this joke of a car rental company my money again! I felt very mistreated as a customer.Reviewed 7 Sep. 2017

On the fencePros:I liked the pick up/drop off process. It was really cold outside so I was a little afraid that I would have to wait in the cold. When I went outside, the bus was already there. This was a huge plus for me as I am not a fan of the cold. When returning the car, the bus was there waiting as well.Cons:I didn't like that all of the cars were dirty in the inside and outside. This was a shock. I rented a mid size car and looked in all 6 vehicles and they were all dirty inside. The protection plan was also a terrible deal as the cost per day was more than the cost of the vehicle per day. When I asked why, the lady said because it's a good coverage. When returning the car, you have to show a gas receipt with the gas being topped off. The gas receipt must be within a 10 mile radius of where they are located. There is only one gas station near them. The gas station gas cost $2.99/per gallon. The rate for other gas stations outside of the 10 mile radius is $2.19 so it seems like they are working in partnership with the gas station owner and that was disappointing.Reviewed 24 Mar. 2017

Thrifty Detroit - OK, not greatPros:Car was very nice, Mazda 3 has fantastic mileageCons:- Detroit has no-fault insurance which was not noted in the info presented prior to pickup, allowing the desk clerk to threaten everyone with hellfire and damnation should they not buy the additional coverage (and I still don't know if it's accurate or not) after a fair bit of googling - I think you'll have to explicitly ask your carrier and card what the case is.). The insurance extra is $9/day, almost a 50% increase in the price relative to the deal we got from kayak. Check before you rent in MI. In Detroit, like most airports, the lots are away from the terminals and Thrifty's buses weren't all that speedy. However, a tip - ask any of the car rental places if you can hop on for a ride - one of them gave a lift right to the lot.Reviewed 28 Feb. 2017
