The wait to get the car was very long and hot. The car we got was filthy, with windows that would not stay clean due to the gross windshield wipers. The streaks made for very unsafe driving at times. It was a crazy experience! They couldn’t find keys to cars, other cars were out of service. They didn’t have any cars available in my category (even though my reservation was made months before). They offered me a larger vehicle (Chrysler 300) that was a gas guzzler & it wasn’t clean. But I have to say it was comfortable & had a lot of power.Reviewed 7 Aug. 2021

After a 10 hour overnight flight for our honeymoon, no one was working the Payless counter when we arrived - they literally just didn't show up for work that day. Totally unacceptable. Another rental car company had to loan one of their cars to Payless in order for us to leave with a car. Terrible experience. If I could give 0 stars I would... Pros:The drop-off attendant was very friendly and helpful, and got us checked out quickly.Cons:The counter person (at pick-up), was not very friendly, and was difficult to understand. I wasn't given the opportunity to inspect the car - he just handed be empty damage assessment tried to get rid of me. When I insisted on the inspection, he tore off the top page of the form, so there would be no duplicate, and sent me off to fill it out on my own. The car, not the one we we ordered, was well-worn, with lots of chips and scratches and tiny dents, so I filled the card completely. When I brought it back in to verify the issues, he tried to send me away again. But when I complained that there was no official record of the existing damages, he put his initials on the form I had, claiming that would be enough, and waved me off again. Once he'd gotten my credit card info, and had given me the keys, he only seemed interested in trying to get rid of me. Not at all a pleasant experience.Reviewed 29 Jun. 2021

Pros:The drop off was super easy.Cons:Understaffing at the counter meant that we waited in line for two hours to pick the car. To cover up the fact that they did not have the compact car that we reserved they pushed us to take a convertible with no rear folding seats so we could not fit a surf board in the car. The agent did not mention this even when we asked if a surfboard would fit in the car.Reviewed 15 Jun. 2021
