Cons:When I got there, the counter was very busy. The agent was very friendly and said that he would have an auto soon similar to the one I booked. He said it was being washed and detailed. After sitting about 30 minutes and seeing other customers getting their cars and leaving I went back up to him and asked the status of my account. He "couldn't find" the auto I was supposed to have and tried to up-grade me for ten dollars a day more. When I declined, he was able to find an alternative vehicle on the spot for me. Couldn't get a carCons:Payless doesn't allow people under 25 to rent unless they have a "real" credit card. If I have the money and a card with which to pay that money, I don't believe this should matter. Not allowing someone to rent without a credit card (while under 25) is completely irrational. So a 23 year old with a real job/money can't rent... but one with (potentially) a decent stack of debt/credit can? There was no warning about this prior to my arrival, only a warning that I could potentially incur extra fees due to being only 23.Reviewed 15 Jul. 2016

Pros:That there was someone at the counter when I arrived.Cons:I reserved a mid-sized sedan due to my wife being handicapped, upon arrival I was informed that there where none available and was informed that I could take a truck or check with the other agencies. :(Reviewed 24 Jun. 2020

They owe me money....Pros:NothingCons:When I got there we stood in a long line in the heat because they only had one man working the window... I had requested a midsize vehiicle but I was given a mercury lancer... super small and all dinged up. When I saw this vehicle I wasn't happy so I went back and told the guy I wanted a different car but he didn't have any so I asked him to void the 200.00 charge from my card. I asked for a receipt but the guy said the printer was broken... I was hot and frustrated and ran inside to rent a vehicle from Budget instead.. I decided to go back and get my receipt and again he said the printer didn't work so I had him write out a receipt .... The charge has not yet been removed from my checking account so I will call on Monday if nothing has changed... I shouldn't have to spend the time calling... Cons:There was no truck available. I was offered a small SUV. I waited for the truck. It was not clean inside or out. It was very dusty inside, and the truck had a smokey odor. I had to go back to the counter to request another truck. I waited over a hour.Reviewed 10 Mar. 2021

Pros:The price was good, the vehicle was clean.Cons:Everything else. The experience of the pick up is horrible. You are essentially handed the key to go look for your car. You do your initial inspection yourself. The drop off was even worse. I was running late for my flight and thought that as soon as I pull in someone will be they to greet, get the key from me and do the inspection. I was surprise when I was told by a rep from another car rental company that I have to take the key into the office. Once I got they I had to stand in line, in so much stress knowing that my flight was pretty close to my flight time. I am use to the traditional car rental where they meet you as you pulled into their packing lot. This may be my last time of using your company given the concerns I just express. Not in terminal as advertisedPros:Inexpensive carCons:Line was an hour long once we got to the car rental terminal. We went with Payless because it was advertised as at airport terminal, and we had a time crunch to deal with. But it is not, it is a 10min bus ride away at the car rental terminal. Once we got there we had to wait an hour in line as there was only 1 person working, this put us behind schedule 45 minutes. If I knew this I would have paid a little more and gone with one of the other company’s that has fast break or a quicker car pick up program. So it’s inexpensive but be prepared to wait.Reviewed 16 May 2018

Sketchy rental practiciesPros:The vehicle was cleanCons:It took us almost an hour to get a car when we arrived even though we had a reservation. The vehicle I reserved was not available and we were given a smaller car. We were told our rate would be reduced, but the final reduced rate would be quoted to us upon return because their computer system was down. Upon return of the vehicle, the person identifying themselves as the manager processed the car return. He refused to give us a receipt which seemed very sketchy. When we asked about what the final, reduced rate would be he said he would not change the rate because we took the smaller car which meant we agreed to a smaller car for the same rate. We we pressed for a receipt for the rental, he told us to call the toll free number if we wanted one. We asked another attendant if they could give us our receipt and he referred us back to the other gentleman who he confirmed was the manager. When we told the attendant that the other guy refused to give us a receipt, he told us that we should just call the toll free number then. He didn't seem to think the manager's behavior was abnormal. Now, my credit card has been charged more than what was in my original rental agreement for the larger vehicle. We are still waiting for someone from "corporate" to contact us to resolve.Reviewed 3 Dec. 2016

Payless = Get LessPros:Price was fairly attractive but don't be fooled.Cons:It's the one rental agency relegated to an outdoor shack at the Sacramento airport. The line was so long it was out the door - only one poor agent to handle the crowd. We reserved an SUV but when we arrived no SUV was available. Her recompense was to take five dollars off the daily rate. Wow. We ended up driving back two days later to return the car and go with another company. Complaints to the counter were refered to corporate. When we called corporate they said we had to deal with the counter. Do. Not. Use.Reviewed 31 Dec. 2015
