Pros:Check in was easy and they were helpful.Cons:My rental return was set for 4 pm Saturday. No one told be they would be closed. When I showed up there was a sign that said I would be charged extra time if they were closed until they opened the next day. I had to call and talk to 3 people before they told me I would not be charged. I still haven't received the receipt so I don't know if they charged me or not. I was told by one person that the information about being charged if they were closed was in the contract. I did not read all 8 pages of the incredibly small type in the contract. In the future, the agent should tell a person that detail up front if they know they will be closed upon return.Reviewed 17 Oct. 2017

No available cars even with reservation. What?Pros:Nothing specifically.Cons:How do I put it? Well, I made a reservation as usual. When I arrived I was told all the cars were rent out and some were on the way back. That's fine. Understandable. I asked the Hertz guy if it was ok to hang around considering the fact that I had to wait a long time for the cars to come back. The guy said fine, so I hang around with my gf for a short while. However, when I got back to Hertz I was told the cars that came back had been rent to some walk-in customers and the guy said I didn't tell him that I was out and my number. Excuse me? I asked if it was ok and he had my number in my reservation. Does the reservation mean nothing? Pissed off. Never ever choose this again.Reviewed 1 Jan. 2017

Pros:There was no long line to get my vehicleCons:If you rent THROUGH HERTZ ITSELF, NOT through their Dollar/Thrifty subsidiary, then you should receive a HERTZ-quality vehicle.......not some reject with 35,000+ miles that Hertz had discarded and relegated to its economy Dollar/Thrifty brands🤬Reviewed 20 Jan. 2021

Cons:When I got to the counter at the Sacramento airport to pick up my car, I was told that they didn't have anything for me and that I had made the reservation at the downtown location - I'm positive, I did not. The woman at the counter told me to call and see if I could get the same car and rate transferred to the airport, but didn't give me any help (other than telling me to get away from the counter). When I called, I was told they could make a reservation, but it would cost me more than twice what I had originally paid or that I could just go get the car I had reserved at the downtown location. By the way, this was happening at 9pm. I called an Uber and they drove me downtown only to find that location had closed at noon (9 hours earlier). The Uber then drove me to the place where I was staying. In the mean time, I cancelled my reservation with you and got a car from Alamo instead. It cost me $100 more than my original reservation with you, but they had a car available and I was able to get it the next morning. In all I ended up spending about $75 on Ubers and never ended up getting a car from you.Reviewed 12 Nov. 2017

Pros:I made reservation last week before. I was so excited for my first time travel to Oregon this year and I was told they don’t have a pick up truck for me to pick up today and they didn’t even apologized or make a better suggestion. Dirty, unserviced car, unapologetic staff at countPros:Price & previously assumed company reputation (later proved to be incorrect!)Cons:Ford Focus; Car stank of smoke, had to buy wet wipes to clean interior, trash was under the seats, exterior was also filthy. On first day warning flashed to say oil change was needed, then engine started to smell of smoke. Garage visit showed that oil was below minimum, so we topped up and then looked to return to Hertz as we continued to get oil change warning. People on phone very apologetic, but staff at counter were not. we were given a tiny 3 gear Yaris instead, luggage did not even fit in trunk, no central locking, bad air con. Staff at counter very rude. We asked for car equal to Ford focus, which we paid for, eventually after 50minute wait we got a Kia Soul, still had tiny trunk but at least had more comfort and decent engine size. I was very disappointed by the whole experience. You would think if you brought back a car because of engine trouble (never mind the total lack of cleaning), that due to the inconvenience you would get a decent apology and exchange car. Instead we were made to feel like we had inconvenienced Hertz. My sister went on to NY after CA and she chose Budget to rent car due to this experience.Reviewed 1 Apr. 2016

Car was fine but customer service was very poor.Pros:The Toyota Yaris was surprisingly pleasant to drive and worked well for my needs. It was a good price as well.Cons:I thought that my reservation was at the Sacramento Airport but it was actually Madison Ave. So I had to find a way there. I was not feeling well and was looking forward to getting my prepaid rental without a hassle and getting some food. When I got there, they didn't have it. I asked if they gave it away and he said we just don't have it. So instead of offering me another car, I had to go to Roseville Hertz and pick up a car there. I called the Madison Ave Hertz to ask where I return my vehicle. I didn't know whether to return it to the place I prepaid and made a reservation with or to the Hertz in Roseville. The employee told me to return it to Roseville (which is out of the way of the airport) and I asked if he was sure. He said that there might be a return fee but he would check. Left me on hold for a half hour for one small question. I hung up and called back and a different employee told me in seconds that I should return it to Madison Ave where my reservation was. Did not apologize for the wait. He was the same guy that didn't have empathy that they didn't have my car in the first place. Horrible customer service.Reviewed 24 Oct. 2017

Switch-a-rooPros:The car was clean and newer.Cons:I booked online once I was done booking my flight. I was landing in the Sacramento airport and the auto-populate had my info and filled the dates, times and location (which I double checked quickly and it all looked correct). When I arrived the front desk person said my reservations were for DOWNTOWN and not for the airport. He asked if I had booked and flown Southwest (which I had) and he said "they've been doing that lately) and proceeded to quote me a price FOUR TIMES the price of what I booked online (not an exaggeration, online was $89 and my actual price after drop-off was $375). I was beyond frustrated, but I was without many options as I was on a tight schedule. I had a Nissan Aultima (4 cyc) for 2.5 days, used a 1/2 tank of gas and was billed nearly $400. I'd highly recommend going elsewhere if you're booking for same day or book online and skip the counter. I feel totally used for a huge company profit due to their own online error.Reviewed 29 Sep. 2017
