Pickup and drop off were easy. But they mistakenly charged me in-terminal drop off fee that shouldn’t be charged if I dropped the car at their office outside terminal. They also changed unidentified small money, $4.56, without explanation through the email. It will be settled but I’m a little annoyed.Reviewed 13 Mar. 2024

I did not get to rent the car. They told me I had to be 75 or under. Age discrimination? I did not read anywhere from you of this requirement. I am now going back and forth to get my monies returnedReviewed 17 Oct. 2023

The electronics in the car kept failing every time I went over bumpy roads. One time the entire screen went out which made driving without GPS in my eyeline very stressful on the Irish roads that I had no familiarity with. Eventually learned to live with the interruptions, but in the moment it led to several stressful and unpleasant situations. When given a garage to go to to fix it there were no employees present and just a bunch of caras left idling with their hoods open. A crappy experience.Reviewed 12 Oct. 2023

Top tips for renting a car from Sixt in Dublin

  • There are roughly four SIXT branches in Dublin: one at Dublin Airport (DUB) and three in the city. One of the most popular locations to get a car hire from is the airport, especially if you’re travelling to Dublin by plane. Whilst Dublin has a good transportation network, a hire car offers more flexibility for your journey, as you aren’t reliant on the bus timetables or taxis. The airport branch also provides a greater selection of cars compared to the branches in the city and has some great reviews for customer service.
  • There are lots of places to park your SIXT car in Dublin, most of which come at a cost. For example, you can park at the Q-Park Grand Canal Square in the city centre. The cost of this is about € 5.50 (A$ 8.50) for one hour. There are also pay-and-display street parking bays in Dublin. The cost of this depends on the zone you’re parking in. The cheaper zone costs about € 0.80 (A$ 1.25) per hour. The street bays usually charge from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm between Monday and Saturday and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sundays. Outside of these hours, it’s typically free to park.
  • You must ensure you’re familiar with the road laws when you get a SIXT hire car in Dublin. For instance, everyone needs to wear their seat belt at all times and children that weigh less than 36 kg or who are smaller than 150 cm must be in a booster seat. Mobile phone use is permitted when driving provided you are using a hands-free system. Drink driving is taken very seriously, so you should avoid the consumption of alcohol well before driving. If you’re found to be over the legal limit, you will be prosecuted.
  • It’s possible to have a one-way hire when you get a SIXT hire car in Dublin, so you can drop your vehicle off at another branch at the airport or in the city. Alternatively, you can also return your car to a SIXT branch in another Irish city. You will be required to pay a surcharge for this, which depends on the length of your hire period, the vehicle type and the location to which you are returning the vehicle.

  • Book your rental car from Sixt in Dublin at least 7 days before your trip in order to get a below-average price.
