Car was goodPros:They brought the car to the airport for us so we didn't have to go to the yard.Cons:We paid for a small baby car seat and they had a enfant car seat. We asked for help putting it in and they would not help. One guy said they didn't have insurance to help. The seat was too big and another guy who tried to help suggested we go across to another terminal and rent a baby seat. So I have to walk across the airport after 16 hrs of travel to try and rent another car seat after I had already paid for one.. Very bad service on that end . If they don't have the seats they should not have it available to rent .. How do I get my money back I paid for the seat???Reviewed 1 Sep. 2016

AwfulCons:I arrived in the airport and was given a key to a ford focus which i ordered. I walked around the car park for 30 minutes with my girfriend looking for this car. it was late and the car was not in the assigned space. we eventually went back to desk and were given a different key for another car which we found ok. Upon return i learned that i was being charged 60 euro upgrade for this car which wasn't mentioned at the time. Awful serviceReviewed 18 Aug. 2016

Blackmailed into taking insuranceCons:When we picked up the car, the agent pressured us into taking insurance we did not want. He told us there would be a hold put against our credit card for the ENTIRE value of the car if we chose not to take the insurance. I referred to this as blackmail. My husband referred to it as extortion. The amount he mentioned was $33K (or perhaps it was Euro, which would be even more). We felt we had not option but to take the insurance. This turned what I thought was a good deal into a not-at-all good deal. I did't appreciate the pressure tactics.Reviewed 22 Aug. 2016

Poorly designed vehicle - should not be rented to touristsPros:1. It was a carCons:1. The car lacked proper gearing for traveling at speeds above 100 km/hr, Generally speaking the Dacia was not properly geared. 1st gear was almost worthless and it need at least a 6th gear. 2. The window operation controls should be on the door not where one needs to search to find them 3. A rental car rented for touring should include cruise control 4. Any rental car rented in Ireland should be equipped with a variable windshield wiper control feature. 5. Standard transmission vehicles should not be rented to people not familiar with left-side of the road driving (right-side vehicle operation). It is a safety issue. 6. My foot on the clutch interfered with the steering or the steering column hit my foot when operating the clutch. This is a safety issue.Reviewed 19 Sep. 2017

Pros:Staff was friendly and accommodating to our needs for our trip. Car was decent for what we needed for our two week stay.Cons:Did not like the fact that the car rental was listed as $99.00 but had fail to mention that there were added expenses that led to a $900+ increase. The fact that you are required to have insurance on the car was not related to us. It is not like in the States where you can decline the insurance if your personal insurance premiums covers rentals. And if you do decline the insurance, it's an automatic $5000 hold on your credit card. So when I thought I was receiving a "deal" with the price of the rental, it in fact was not. Make sure you do your research before selecting a rental in Ireland. I did not and we paid for it....literally.Reviewed 9 Mar. 2017

Fees on top of feesCons:1. we were charged a fee because we paid at the end with a credit card.... Who pays for a rental car with cash? 2. we were charged an administrative fee that was never indicated on the original quote 3. we were also charged a "location service charge" that was never indicated on the original quote. 4. initially we were charged the amount of the rental in USD, the receipt indicated that we requested this, but we were NEVER asked if we wanted to pay in Euros or in Dollars (which with the difference in the exchange rates was significant). and when we tried to talk to someone, we were directed to the airport terminal where there we no employees working at the time. Thankfully the Hertz people took pity on us and helped as much as they could. All told, the amount was considerably more than what we were quoted.Reviewed 24 Apr. 2017

Not what I expected!Cons:The entire office smelled of urine from the bathroom close to the desk it was almost unbearable! Then with all of the hidden fees, what was supposed to be a $80 rental turned into a $590 rental. I had no choice I needed a car, but I felt hood winked the entire time I had the car.Reviewed 18 Oct. 2017

Cons:I plan on contesting my credit card charge. I was quoted a price of E193.34. I ended up being charged E308.30 with an additional charge of E66.96 for an additional driver. There was no explanation of where the other E44 came from. Additionally there was no prior mention that the vehicle was a diesel nor that a E5,436 security charge would be applied to my credit card.Reviewed 7 Sep. 2016

Be smart. Don't get ripped off.Pros:The car was excellent. We received the same car we selected when renting through Kayak. We chose a Volkswagon Passat, which was a fully loaded car with plenty of room for 4 people on a 1 week trip through Ireland. The trunk was huge and had plenty of room for our luggage. The car had a lot more bells and whistles than your standard USA rental car. The car was very new, with few miles on it. The car performed perfectly and we had no issues with the car what so ever. Driving a manual transmission throughout Ireland was one of my favorite parts of the vacation. I loved it.Cons:When we rented the car we were told by Kayak it would cost 123 Euro's. When the rental was complete it cost 227 euros. I listened to everyone in line in front of me as we waited for about 1 hour to rent our car and noticed that most people were mad about the extra hidden fees. The weekly rental rate didn't change, but they charged 52 euros for pre paid fuel, 23 euros for a location service charge, 30 euros for an administrative fee, 5 euros for a credit card fee. They also charged tax, but this was included in the 123 we were told upfront. First off, do not EVER prepay for fuel!!! This is a rip off. Unless you are absolutely certain you can bring the car back completely empty, you are getting ripped off. I never prepay fuel for this reason, but in this case, I had been waiting so long in line to rent the car, I didn't feel like arguing and delaying the 20 people behind me any longer. Second, check with your insurance company before you leave to see if they cover rental cars outside of your country. Mine does, so I did not buy the insurance from them. This saved me a lot money. Third, take the pre-inspection of the car seriously. I rent cars on a weekly basis from Hertz in the USA and they are a great company. I'm a gold member, so I take the car and return it without ever walking around it. I've never had any issues or ever been hassled about damaging the car. However, in Ireland, apparently things are different. The person from Hertz who performed the pre-inspection of the car was very thorough. She took many pictures and made many notes. She was especially focused on the wheels, since it was obvious the passenger side of the car had hit curbs. (i think this is common for us US folks driving on the left side of the road). I put my finger in a pretty serious gouge on the tire and asked the Hertz person if they though it would go flat. We agreed it was OK. I assumed she was taking notes about the tires. WRONG. When I returned the car, the post inspection person quickly saw the gouge on the tire and I was charged 346 euros for a new tire. I was pretty upset, and argued with her, but was told I would have to contact the claims department. I looked back at the pre inspection report and the pictures were so low quality you couldn't make out the tires. Luckily, I contacted the claims department when I got home, and they reversed the 346 euro charge. I prefer to believe that the tire was overlooked on a previous rental, and that Hertz is not intentionally charging people over and over for the same tire damage. My point is, take the pre-inspection serious. Take your own pictures. Make your own notes on their form. Get a picture of the person performing the inspection. I know it sounds dumb, but this is not the US and they are playing this rental car game differently.Reviewed 25 Jul. 2016

OK Rental in DublinPros:Car was new, fully featured.Cons:We needed to leave a 5,000 Euro deposit!! Out credit card covered insurance our rental in Ireland, but that was not enough. Although we had contacted ur cards, etc., we needed to transfer money to that card and it took about 45 min of going back and forth. There was no compromising, no putting the %,000 on different cards. TheReviewed 19 Jul. 2016
