Overall a good experience
Pros: Car was clean and worked great. Pickup and drop off were easy.
Cons: Several fees were not included in the kayak quote that we had to pay. They tricked us into paying currency of card instead of Euro. We got that fixed but was quite a hassle. Also had to put a major deposit down since we declined coverage. So there were some surprises.

Fees on top of fees
Cons: 1. we were charged a fee because we paid at the end with a credit card.... Who pays for a rental car with cash? 2. we were charged an administrative fee that was never indicated on the original quote 3. we were also charged a "location service charge" that was never indicated on the original quote. 4. initially we were charged the amount of the rental in USD, the receipt indicated that we requested this, but we were NEVER asked if we wanted to pay in Euros or in Dollars (which with the difference in the exchange rates was significant). and when we tried to talk to someone, we were directed to the airport terminal where there we no employees working at the time. Thankfully the Hertz people took pity on us and helped as much as they could. All told, the amount was considerably more than what we were quoted.

Requested a $5000 deposit!
Pros: Did not end up renting from Dollar
Cons: We wanted to decline insurance because our own company at home would cover us in a rental vehicle. Dollar tried to run a $5000 deposit on our credit card because if this...come on! All other companies we questioned requested a $300 deposit. Big difference. I'll never rent from Dollar.

Pros: Staff was friendly and accommodating to our needs for our trip. Car was decent for what we needed for our two week stay.
Cons: Did not like the fact that the car rental was listed as $99.00 but had fail to mention that there were added expenses that led to a $900+ increase. The fact that you are required to have insurance on the car was not related to us. It is not like in the States where you can decline the insurance if your personal insurance premiums covers rentals. And if you do decline the insurance, it's an automatic $5000 hold on your credit card. So when I thought I was receiving a "deal" with the price of the rental, it in fact was not. Make sure you do your research before selecting a rental in Ireland. I did not and we paid for it....literally.

Pros: It was so awful it was actually humorous.
Cons: The rear wiper was missing, drivers side door didn't lock, passenger side door couldn't be opened front the outside. Overall an awful car. Lots of hidden fees added on as well, declining insurance results in a 5,000 euro hold on your card which would max most people's cards out on the start of a trip.

GreAt rental experience
Pros: The car was just what we needed. No line at pickup. Very friendly help. Easy drop off.
Cons: The true cost of renting a car in Ireland is disguised in the insurance fee.

Cons: I plan on contesting my credit card charge. I was quoted a price of E193.34. I ended up being charged E308.30 with an additional charge of E66.96 for an additional driver. There was no explanation of where the other E44 came from. Additionally there was no prior mention that the vehicle was a diesel nor that a E5,436 security charge would be applied to my credit card.

Car was good
Pros: They brought the car to the airport for us so we didn't have to go to the yard.
Cons: We paid for a small baby car seat and they had a enfant car seat. We asked for help putting it in and they would not help. One guy said they didn't have insurance to help. The seat was too big and another guy who tried to help suggested we go across to another terminal and rent a baby seat. So I have to walk across the airport after 16 hrs of travel to try and rent another car seat after I had already paid for one.. Very bad service on that end . If they don't have the seats they should not have it available to rent .. How do I get my money back I paid for the seat???

Pros: Good mileage with diesel. Drop off was more efficient
Cons: We had to wait an hour for the car. Very slow. Also didn't like the the insurance deductible fee added to the credit card fo 1600.00 euros. Never had that occur in any country that we rented a car. Rented in Scotlad the week prior and the process was straight forward.

Cons: The people who work in Dublin are a bunch off crooks all the want is the people who rent buy extra insurance which I believe I did not need plus there were all types of extra fees

Seriously need to fix their pickup system
Pros: Employees were friendly enough and the car was in good condition. Return was smooth. The rental was serviced by Thrifty in a shared facility with Hertz a short bus ride from the terminals. (Although hertz had separate employees, they had the same problems with pickup as far as I could tell)
Cons: It took well over an hour to pickup the car, really ridiculous, and we were the second in line when we arrived. It was much worse for others. Also I got a nail in the tire and they were no help at all, I had to pay for the repair myself because I didn't have the extra "tire cover." (Luckily tire repairs are cheap in Ireland). The insurance is also a scam in Ireland (this is common to all agencies I could tell), as most credit cards don't cover Ireland, but Chase cards seem to (call to ask). Thrifty accepted this for a 30 euro administrative fee (which is disclosed in the terms). They were also remarkably nitpicky about the condition of the car, taking photos at checkout and documenting even the slightest scratches or dents.
