Top tips for renting a car from Thrifty in Edinburgh

  • Book Thrifty hire cars in Edinburgh to take advantage of the freedom that comes with having transport that doesn't rely on someone else's schedule and allows you to explore the city on your time. You can spend time at places like Edinburgh Castle, the National Museum of Scotland, or the Palace Holyroodhouse without worrying about how to get there or how long you can stay before catching the bus home. You'll also avoid paying high taxi fees to local drivers, especially for road trips to areas like Loch Ness, Gretna Green, or Stirling.
  • When you book Thrifty hire cars in Edinburgh, you'll be picking one of the most sought-after car hire companies in the country and one of the best-rated companies on KAYAK in Edinburgh. Thrifty falls under the Hertz Car Hire banner, offering access to the same extensive fleet Hertz has but at a much-reduced cost. Thrifty is a company forged on the building blocks of providing customers all over the globe with high-quality vehicles and customer service at the most affordable rates.
  • If you're flying into Edinburgh, book Thrifty car hires in Edinburgh at the airport to put you in a prime position to avoid airport transfer costs. Make sure you book car hire services online, and only after you've booked and secured your flights. You'll need to enter your flight details so the company will know when to expect you and have a company employee ready for your arrival. You'll find the Thrifty car hire counter a short walk away from the terminal exit. Just walk to the multi-storey car park via the covered walkway and locate the desk.
  • Whether you're hiring your Edinburgh Thrifty car at the airport or in the city centre, one of the most important things to do is a final vehicle inspection before leaving the company car park. Make a note of any damage, scratches, or dents that may have gone unnoticed and have the employee representative sign off on the notes. It's also important to check that you have mandatory things like a spare wheel, car jack, warning triangle, and reflective vest.
  • Small rental cars from Thrifty in Edinburgh are around 52% cheaper than other car types, on average.

Rented a transit van or similar passenger van, all they had was a minivan. Said the issue was on Kayak’s side, not there’s. I could rent a second vehicle to fit my party at current prices. Walked away with an eight passenger minivan for twelve people.Reviewed 12 Mar 2026

The vehicle was Okay. This office did not have my ready. It was supposed to be ready at noon. I arrived about 20 minutes late. I waited till 1:30 to get the car. It was supposedly being cleaned, which was funny, because upon opening the glove box, their were open snack bags in there. The return was great, because I was able to return it to a different location which went very smooth,Reviewed 3 Mar 2026
